Papapalheta SG opened a Pre-order for Sette 270 at SGD 580. Let's just wait until the Malaysian branch bring it in. Considering its hype, the price tag is quite reasonable though.  brows.gif  brows.gif

Haha, At least he got a good grinder for the k30 and he wont be worrying making bad coffee coz they are the most essential ones compare to espresso machine.

Dang, Super Jolly is that cheap.... I say for extra rm50, go and get the super jolly if he ever get a hands on one before the seller sells away. It was better then mignon all around.

I just brought my mignon if i knew a super jolly is about the price i would get it instead of mignon but for now, im quiet happy with mignon beside that it giving me a quick static shocks if i hold/touch the portafilter doh.gif . Mignon is one hack of a messy grinder. It spew coffee ground all over the kitchen top when it grind unless you make a funnel for it which im having now by cutting the bottom of the cup.

Hahaha #thestruggleisreal yeah the mignon is indeed frustrating but it does its job pretty well... yeah the Mazzer SJ is a steal provided the motor runs and everything else intact. a replacement burrs are not too expensive. i just don't like it being a doser but that personal preference.

Did my comparison with The Dose Control Pro Grinder and Mignon, The Dose Control Pro Grinder are much more cleaner since the ground chute is straight down while the trigger button is on top ... i can properly align my funnel directly in front of the chute (Without the holder) ... while mignon is abit harder because the trigger button and also the hook for the portafilter is directly below the chute, i need to tilt abit and hoping it would spill everywhere....lolz.... sweat.gif

Same here too, I never fond of doser since the last grinder i used was MDF, I prefer the ground goes straight into portafiler by that way it leave a small room for more stale coffee grind stuck between those area.

I like my mignon, so far it's not messy, maybe a clump falling off at most. Not sure how you're doing it that it gets very messy. I typically grind for espresso, about 18-19g using the timer function.

it used to be messy even with timer because i just lock on to the spout latch and let it rip but i manage it by using homemade DIY funnel to reduce the ground from spewing everywhere when grind. It is just a small matter to keep in mind not major ones ... How about static ? I notice mignon produce quiet some static, i never fail to get one if i accidentally touch between the portafilter metal and the body of mignon when grinding process.... sweat.gif

By the way, mind share the pic of you timer setting ? i just want to clarify something unsure.gif

Peoploids,

It's budget grinder discussion time again!

My Feima 600N just died on me last night, so it's a great excuse to upgrade to something better. However, I'm saving my moolah for a proper drum roaster towards the end of this year, so I'm allocating only RM 1500 or less for the grinder. Also, I prefer new, mainly because I hate chasing for a good secondhand unit only to find out it's been sold already.

So, any suggestions (and pointers on where to get them)?

My current interest lies with a Gaggia MDF at RM 1289 from Lazada.

Thanks in advance!

I'll take a photo later when I get home this evening then edit this post...

Basically the rubber bearing cover has completely ripped to pieces.

I think it was already suffering before, but last night I ground three 100gm batches consecutively just toasted it. Looks like the grind setting dial is no longer fitting properly as well.

Here are my grinder setting.

So basically what i did in my process was...

I make a cup funnel that directly fit into my portafilter. Just had to cut the bottom and abit on the top

user posted image

Put inside that latch it under mignon holder latch while tilt abit the portafilter

user posted image

Slight push on the button to activate it....and all the ground will grind into the funnel nicely without spew everywhere compare portafilter rest catch.

user posted image

This is what it look like after all the ground are in the portafilter + little extra that stuck in the grinder chute (I had to shake the grinder a little to get the excess out) and zero waste If you notice my kitchen counter top. It is very clean.

user posted image

No need to used the hand distribution technique to swipe away the excess ground like most tutorial cafe do. All you need just a simply tap lightly on the portafilter and it is already even out including breaking those clump.

user posted image

Tamp it down. You notice it is just half of my tamper base (I used this as my measurement technique). Based on my calculation, It should be around 18-19g.

user posted image

Final review after the tamp and polish. As u can see it is just right above or on the ridge of the basket. Anything it is a bit more, then i was unable to lock into the machine groupe head.

Just got a Mignon yesterday; must say it's an experience.

Haven't got a funnel set up for my pf yet, so every dose ends up a messy affair.

The clumpiness is truly legendary for the beans I'm using, although they fall apart at the slightest touch.

Also, after 10 to 20 sec after stopping suddenly a clump sometimes falls out onto the countertop!

From this behaviour, I think there is a high buildup of static.... really need to research how to reduce/manage this.

Not used to this type of hopper, as I usually like to pre-weigh the beans. This doesn't work,as it really needs a minimum quantity for smooth feed to the burrs. Looking at some mods eg replacing the hopper with a straight tube.

I notice people are trying to compare grinder settings...ummm... not sure but I have a strong feeling the micrometric dial is not calibrated, ie my #4 is not identical to your #4.

But putting all the above peculiarities aside, I must say it has amazing consistency compared to what I was used to. Just pulled 3 shots all exactly 25 sec! Like a precision watch.....
