hi all, i recently just bought a
Ikea coffee maker , planning to do some home brew coffee on the weekends.
I assume I need either grinded coffee powder or coffee beans and grind it myself?
I live near kota kemuning area, May I know where can I get coffee beans? (apart from starbucks)
i will try out black coffee first, if I want add milk i can just heat up the milk using microwave?
sorry currently haven't go through the whole thread yet, will do so when I have more time

The Ikea Moka pot is really one of the best moka pots easily available in this country at a crazy good price. Regretfully I asked them about getting replacement silicone gaskets (which I understand is available in other country's stores) but they looked at me like I had antennae growing out of my head. However, given the price, it is still economical to chuck the entire unit after a few years if the gasket fails.
You will get a pretty unanimous vote for you to grind your coffee immediately before brewing. Hand grinders give the best bang for the buck, and you can get a Hario Skerton or Slim at most AEON Jusco, Parkson or Isetan stores nationwide, for well under RM200.
From what I remember when I was using the Ikea Moka pot regularly, it fits 24 grams.. that should take you about 3 minutes on the hand grinder, at medium courseness (which I understand is the preferred for Moka). Google up some hints to maximise the quality of your coffee using this brew method, such as:
- always fill the filter full of coffee grounds
- don't overfill the water reservoir (only until the pressure relief valve)
- don't tamp!
- ideally, don't extract until the coffee goes light blond. Stop early... some recommend having a cold water bath to rapidly cool down the pot when you want.
You will hear differing schools of thought on using room temperature water to start, or with already near boiling water. Test for your preference.
Another forumer
wshazi previously compiled a really good list of local/Malaysian roasted bean sources:

Mister Coffee or
Le Bistro Coffee which are extremely reasonable is price, and very fresh.
Happy brewing!!
