The ultimate result for me is MONEY.
Why should I spent RM500-600 to buy another DVD upscaler while i can get it for free (in this case, I already hv a PS3 which the main purpose is for gaming)?
Btw, i'm not an expert videophiler that can trace some small tidbits of details, what i know is that i love what i can see, thats all, its no crime to save some money right?

Yes bro I agree with you. Now the cheapo head aka me, has just thought of something. Dunno if it is possible so asking all the sifus here. notworthy.gif

Now I have a vcr(yeah i know its ancient) that has tv tuner which has component outputs. Now the question is does the dvd players have any component inputs ? If yes then we can use the dvd player to upconvert tv signals into the plasma/lcd/projector......? So all tv shows will be in HD !!

Sound logical ? Got hope or hopelless fairy tale ?

DVD players usually don't have video inputs, only outputs. You can do that to receivers that upscales to 720p/1080i/1080p though.

Even if ur dvd players got component inputs which I think hard to find one, I don't think the tv will be TRUE HD mode coz component is an ANALOG signal. doh.gif

Signal are suposedly all analog to begin with. HDMI/DVI connection is just like SPDIF connection for audio, you are basically transporting the digital signal to the TV's DAC and let the TV do the conversion. Many TVs nowadays take 1080p via component too. There are also external video DAC out there, which is oftened known as processor in the AV scene (audio scene = DAC).

@kancheong
I do not believe there are DVDp that takes input, they are mostly output devices only. However, if you feed the signal to your TV which does upconversion (read manual, some TVs will do upconversion when connected to particular input only), it the signal will be upconverted. Then again, I can assure you, it will still look like crap.

Alamaklor, just curious, which sets accept 1080p signals via component? So far, most of the models sold here only carry up 1080i signals via component.

I dont know much about Astro on Sony. Astro will not look good on any large 720p or 1080p screens. They are still on 480i. So you should not expect the quality is as good as the demo videos you see at AV showrooms. Unless you have a good deinterlacer which will cost you more than the TV itself smile.gif

Personally, I threw away my Astro. Plenty of good 720p videos on the internet.

Cheers

Aiyo bro..

U never read the previous posts? doh.gif . Everybody know astro PQ quality sucks on LCD
especially if compared to CRT. But I don't care much about the PQ.
What more important is the "wow" factor of having lcd tv in my living room thumbup.gif

Nway, from my amateur eyes I cannot see@notice major improvement when using
s-video cable although in theory it should be better. So my advice is do buy the
s-video cable if you want to statisfied yourself but don't buy those expensive one
(e.g Monster Cable). Waste of money. Cheap s-video cable can get from low yat. Less than RM 20.

Hope this help icon_rolleyes.gif

p/s : want to njoy lcd? buy xbox360 or ps3 tongue.gif
