Well, they should include 1080p since they're selling at such a crazy price, if Samsung and Sony can provide full HD for under RM13,000 then I guess Pioneer should do something about it.
*
Pioneer doesnt do LCD - they only do Plasma. Sony's 42in 1080p LCD is at $12,999. Someone is selling Philips Pixel Plus 1080i (1024x1080i) 42in plasma at <RM8,000. That one is tempting tongue.gif

kindly explain what is MRSP. By the way, when referring to the Pioneer plasma, did you see the quality for the astro, was it good? Tq

suggested retail price - set by the CE. retailers sell the product at a much cheaper price. I think 32in is max for Astro. The problem is with the source. Malaysians do not give rate about PQ. If they do, people wont be still selling VCDs. Those uncle an aunts watching TVB don give rate about PC too.

Our best hope for a better PQ is when MiTV relaunch at the end of this year with MPEG4 codec biggrin.gif rclxm9.gif

Wasn't MiTV in trouble before? I remember reading in the news some time back they laid off some employees etc.

Anyway, you are right about their programmes, not interesting whatsoever. They will fail even if they relaunch unlesss they get more interesting shows and lower their charges.

i am suspecting their program line up will be similar to astro's when their relaunch their services. Astro has indicated in their annual reports that some of their exclusive channels will no longer be exclusive to them. I am assuming the time is at the end of this year which also coincide with MiTV's previous plan of charging MiTV more at the end of this year. MiTV's misteps was technology choice. They were never really selling MiTV anyway - just telling the malaysian merket that there is another pay tv out there.

go MPEG4 !! rclxm9.gif

they are stopped their services awaiting relaunch. they should not have launch their services in the first time because they were not ready. cool2.gif

KUALA LUMPUR, MON:

NOKIA Siemens Networks and MiTV Corporation Sdn Bhd today announced their collaboration to launch a commercial broadcast mobile television service based on Digital Video Broadcast-Handheld (DVB-H) technology in Malaysia in the second half of this year.

DVB-H is a robust broadcast-to-mobile technology, which provides excellent reception of the ordinary television broadcasting in digital format on mobile phones and TV screens, the two companies said in a joint statement.

Under the agreement, Nokia and MiTV will implement a broadcast mobile TV based on an open DVB-H standard, enabling viewers in Malaysia with an opportunity to watch DVD-like quality broadcast television "on the go".

The two companies said they are confident of delivering a rich broadcast mobile TV solution for MiTV's 018 mobile TV customers.

"Soon, MiTV's 018 mobile TV customers will be able to watch the latest news, engage in music videos and documentaries and even catch their favourite TV series anywhere and anytime directly from their mobile devices," said MiTV's chairman Datuk Rosman Ridzwan.

"The experience will be unlike any other claimed mobile TV offerings currently available in the market," said Kenneth Chang, executive director of MiTV Networks which managed the mobile network operations.

"You will be able to switch between channels instantaneously, and on top of that, the picture quality and reception will be better than any video streaming services available today," he said.

Nokia will provide MiTV's 018 broadcast mobile TV service an end-to-end deployment process, including implementation, integration and application development services.

It will also maintain MiTV's infrastructure on a turnkey basis.

"This marks the beginning of exciting times in the Asia Pacific broadcasting industry, bringing digital television to consumers' pockets and ushering in a new era of personal interactive entertainment," said Nokia Malaysia's general manager Andrew Cheong.

I'm also planning to get one LA37S81B with MBF scheme but I'm quite tempted for Sony 40V200 (the price went down to 5k+ after new model v300 has come out). Is Sony still worth to buy at this price or Samsung a better deal?

I need help!!!

Thanks first to all sifus...

Just had a chance to see the latest Bravia S300 series in action today, the picture quality is fantastic. However, the price is a little on the premium side. doh.gif

went to ask some electrical dealers, they do not recommend 37" as it is a odd size, in future spare parts will be difficult to source

I am currently looking to buy a 32" LCD HDTV and has narrow my thoughts to a few things.

I heard that Toshiba 32" model 68 is coming out and supports Full HD which is 1080 resolution (whatever that is, it's better than the 700+ resolution I guess) but I do not know when will it be out or what price will be be. Most probably too expensive. I also heard that Toshiba's 32" Model 66 does not have a PIP feature, is that correct? That would not be very nice isn't it?

Sharp's 32" seems to be the only better LCD TV than other brands compared to Toshiba in terms of images and 4ms or 6ms performance. I think I can afford to pay RM200 extra for Sharp over Toshiba if that is so. If I am not mistaken, Sharp has 2 HDMI input too. Other than that, I don't hear aything else.

My use would be to connect my PC to the new TV using HDMI cables as a second monitor and it would be great to have a PIP while I surf the net. I was wondering if DVI cable can transmit audio from PC as well. If that won't do, I'll use a S-video and AV audio cables. My Astro would just use the AV cables input (Yelow, white and red cable). PC has DVI-I and S-Video out.

The market price for 32" Toshiba Model 66 I can get is at RM2,750. What is your comment on this? It would be great if you people can provide me a better solution or some advice of comparison. All other brands are welcomed as well.

V300 (RM7999 retail price) is expensive compared to V200 (RM 5k+). I think the differences are just 1 additional HDMI and contrast is 8000 instead of 5000. Since Samsung 37 is hard to find spare parts, is it still worth paying additional thousand plus to get Sony 40V200?

I dont know much about Astro on Sony. Astro will not look good on any large 720p or 1080p screens. They are still on 480i. So you should not expect the quality is as good as the demo videos you see at AV showrooms. Unless you have a good deinterlacer which will cost you more than the TV itself smile.gif

Personally, I threw away my Astro. Plenty of good 720p videos on the internet.

Cheers

On a 32", 720p and 1080p will not have any visible difference. Unless you have microscopic eyes tongue.gif

SO spend the extra RM200 on a good HDMI cable... If you connect to a PC, use VGA. HDMI does not look good. If you are exclusively connecting to PS3 or HD-DVD, then use HDMI.

Is it okay to connect to PC using S-Video? Something is telling me that spending the extra RM200 on Sharp 32" rather than Toshiba 32" is better. Can someone nullify this statement?

As of now, the scale seems to tilt towards Sharp based on the below arguements:
- Toshiba 32" has no PIP while Sharp 32" has PIP.
- Sharp 32" has 2 HDMI (but someone said for computer, use VGA input but I might use S-Video - PC only has S-Video and DVI-I output)
- Sharp 32" has 6ms while Toshiba 32" has 8ms?

More comment is good. =)

Your PC got S-Video output?

Besides Composite, S-Video is a bad choice for Video. If you can't use direct VGA connection to LCD-TV then it's better to use some sort of DVI to VGA converter and connect to the LCD-TV.
