Ah so... U modified the bolt? I was thinking of pulling the trigger on getting a tektro 559 with the 73mm reach

u got another option. litepro got special brake pad housing that can extend the length of the pad by 1-2cm and price around rm90 for a pair.

anyway, i didnt modified any bolt. its the same bolt, only i drill the outside part not the inside like normal caliper does. by this method u had extend the reach few cm. fyi im using sram red caliper, and those caliper are one example of short reach caliper..

another option to adopt long arm vbrake. but thats another story. i didnt use the long reach caliper like tektro r559 coz i need a good respons brake like my sram red caliper.

Ok bro, thanks for clarification. I will look at the litepro brake extend is it similar to caliper reach, last one i saw is it extend the pads.

Tektro 559 is widely mentioned in 700c - 650b conversations, Tektro 365 also suitable with 52-72mm reach. Most importantly, it's easier to source.
The way sifu Azam install the brake is not conventional.
There are some argument over this and the conventional which the brake is on the other side I.e. you see the brake on top of the seat stay instead of the brake hidden under the seat stay as per sifu azam's photo.
. The discussion on the subject matter is very interesting. Imho, you have to choose your own poison.
If cost is a concern, the extensions are as much or more than tektro 365 and tektro 559.
My poison is Tektro 365.
As for responsive brake, you need to 1) match the pull of the lever and brake. 2) set your brake pad properly.

I am bring in a new folding bicycle from Thailand.

What is HS Code for folding bicycles?
Is there any import tax on folding bicycle?
I read that only road bikes are subject to import tax.

I was asked for a declaration form for my bike when I came back from Vietnam by a senior customs officer. Later I was asked to open my bicycle box.

Another time was asked for declaration forms for a group of roadies into Thailand. He said they can impose export tax.

I am preparing myself against tired customs officer.

Your question is very vague ! rclxub.gif Vogue as you call is actually Oscar brand. There is 7 speed, 8 speed and even 21 speed and 24 speed. Most probably the one you are asking about is 7 speed. Also there are steel frame and also aluminum frame. The Vogue model is OK if it is the aluminum frame and it actually a copy of the Dahon Speed but made by others. This I mean the standard model and not the curved Dolphin model. I can't say the components are good though but as something to catalyst you into more serious riding and bikes, it should be OK.

That said, for a newbie who have not really ride before, you won't differentiate YET why some bikes are so much more expensive but you will eventually if you are still riding after some time. But commuting to MRT , meaning carrying it on the trains, the fold won't be convenient on cheaper brands but adaptable with some difficulty like heavier weight and bulkiness.

Come to think of it, there's not one 16 inch folding bike within that price range hmm.gif 16 inch wheels folds more compact and smaller for commuting. Most 16 inchers are above certain quality.

I think for another extra RM200, you can get the Oscar Vogue, 8 speed , aluminum frame from Kimbell Jaya in Cheras. But maybe the one from online is the same , I can't be sure.

At 339, one should not be too choosy. I wouldn't emphasize on ride quality or even built quality. BUT focus on how practical it is.
Look for a bicycle shop in your neighborhood, I do see local bicycle shops selling.
Ask permission from the shop owner to do an experiment. Imagine you fighting through a sea of people with the bike folded and see if you get hernia after 300m.
If you still survive and don't mind doing it everyday, at least 4 times a day. Go for it! 339 is really affordable. Use it for a while and decide for yourself what you need. It's you whom you need to please.
Buy online only if you can repair your own bicycle. Otherwise, let your friendly neighborhood bicycle shop make that extra 50 bucks or so and enjoy the free tuning and repair for a very long time.
*PS, if budget allows, take sifu etigge's advise and look for the alum frame 8 speed, don't have to ask why, you will never regret it. If under 600 is still a great bargain as you actually save money on comuting. Got good ROI smile.gif

I got friend bought a folding bike around 300++, after one ride, didn't hear him talking about the bike anymore. Than again, like KenC mention, don't expect much from RM339 bike, maybe if the currency is USD / Pound is different.

I tested some cheap ones, not 339, but still cheap. Is heavy not practical to carry even after fold. Good for fold and keep aside.

Java and TRS not too expensive.

Beware your finger can get injured when working on a clumsy folding mechanism and moving it folded can be very troublesome too

I would say save up a little bit around rm800,u can get a fairly good xds 16 or trinx 16.not the best folding mechanism around but it is decent enough.

For commuting, strongly recommend the 300m test. Whatever price range.

*PS, I bought a 300buck bike… still my main staple. But had splurge 900 on it to custom to my needs and wants… don't think the spending will ever stop tongue.gif

HARD WORK is still manageable. However, keeping yourself motivated, is quite a challenge.
