Shouldn't you benchmark against your qualification, experience and position you are applying for .

if just a Bank Executive ... how can anyone advice that ?!

I'm senior enough to nego my price but am really not experienced enough to estimate the cost of living in SG, hence any help is much appreciated.

Thanks for the idea. laugh.gif
2-3k inclusive of rental or exclusive?

My target is just start saving 1-1.5k SGD every month and grow from there. smile.gif

Looks like my target is still achievable. flex.gif

That's quite low compared to KL. Cost of living is indeed lower in SG?

Dollar to dollar comparison, the only thing expensive in SG is rental. Food wise is pretty affordable. I only go SG for holidays and so far I find their food is cheap. laugh.gif
Is this correct, guys?

To All Bro and Sis here , after reading the border crossing difficulties face by fellow Malaysian (some probably are Singaporeans). I sincerely advice rent a place in SG rather to face the miserable daily crossing.

I have been all the while supporting the idea to stay in SG instead of traveling , especially if you are working in SG pay 1,500 above please stay in SG.

Let me compute :
Daily borders crossing about SGD 3 * 20 = 60 SGD
Your per hour pay min 8 SGD * 20 * 4 (hours travelling) = 640 SGD

That's easily 700 SGD value , infact we shouldn't place monetary value on lost hours it is actually way way much higher , time wasted can't be earn.

With 500 - 600 SGD can have a common room around outskirt , probably closer to your work place.

With budget 200-300 SGD can have a shared common room , definitely choose closer to work place.

Not only save on traveling time , able to be more relax and spend more quality time for yourself , further more can earn more by during OT or Odd jobs !

If concern about daily cost usage bring in food from Malaysia : Tuna , Milo , Bread, Biscuits , Fruits ; either way can refresh every week while going back for groceries shopping , actually if wanna save the hassle eating at the food court around outskirt area still have 2.5 SGD noodle and rice , 4 SGD Zhi Cha comparable what it is in JB (because I know you guys will go have it at Wong Kok , Ajishen , Daore , old town ... etc etc.. )

It would be a different case for those who drive in and out daily. Above suggestion are those travelling via Bikes and Bus / walk....

Only thing to hinder this idea , is when you have a family , it would be more sensible if both are working and combine income > 8k , then is easier to have whole family in SG.

Please do not waste your time to save the few hundred dollars , isn't worth your health .

If there is a flight 6pm back home, return at 6am, I would do it, everyday. Some are those what local call them jiu hu kia, got family got bond there, what for rent room in SG. Non jiu hu like some of us then ok la stay in SG.

If you're earning SGD, yes, other than rental, everything else is quite cheap comparing dollar to dollar in MY.
That's what i felt. laugh.gif

Actually from what i've been looking at, rental rates are also cheaper than KL. And also for outright purchases. But i've only commuted there for meetings and short business trips, tak pernah stay long term so I might be mistaken.

General packages for MY to SG converts : 70 - 80% of MYR pay

Internal transfer : may get 1 to 1 pay , + relocation allowance

Promotional packages - means promote to a position in SG or ask to go to SG for a high /bigger portfolio : nego increment + allowance

Headhunted for Senior Position , Upon Invitation (typically MNC) : Expat packages >>8k pay , having P1 pass , comes with additional housing and transport allowance

Those are general market observation .

Can't really benchmark how much to send back home and nego salary leh , kinda weird way of salary negotiation.

hahaha basically i've been told to give a figure to the ultimate boss and the only real way i have to gauge is to add on living costs to how much i want to hantar balik lol.
1 to 1 pay and relocation allowance sounds very favourable to me! shocking.gif
Good thing i checked with you guys! sweat.gif

What is a P1 pass? I was under the impression all EPs were the same?

On an unrelated note, it'll be strange to be considered as an expat. Sounds like orang putih jer lol.

Those "Jiu Hu Kia" think again la , reach home about 9-10 pm makan shower sleep , wake up at 5-6 then work ... where the quality time with Fam .

With technology so advance can use Internet to communicate . Further more after 6-7pm can shake leg and start talk cock sing song .....

EP has three categories - P1, P2 and Q1 based on salary range.
P1 is for >8k.
P2 is for > 4.5k
Q1 is for > 3.3k

If I'm not wrong.

Any notable difference between the three? They are all basically work permits, no? Or do they have different restrictions or implications?
The SG gov webby doesn't seem to list anything except for the super atas personalised employment pass one.

Expat package very rare , so far only a few of my friends and most of them have oversea working background UK , Aus , US , HK , or Malaysian but transfer from those country to SG

EP 3 grades :
Q1 - 3.3k above
P2 - 4.5k above
P1 - 8k above
PEP - 12k above

yours most likely can consider promotional d la , then + your relocation allowance + family time compensation , basically you ask to relocate right ?

Better still nego a fam package bring your wife together

Rental killer part , master room may go up to 1k with a.c. cheaper if outskirt city. Studio will cost more than 2k.

Food basically cheaper than malaysia, dollar to dollar. Example, a bowl of chinese mee soup in kl may cost rm5 , here sgd3.5 to 4 can get liao , generally u can assume 10 to 20% cheaper compare to kl.

Wish all luck working in sg

Actually prefer u all dun come

Wife earns more than me in KL. Serious sweat.gif Doesn't want to relocate. So it's basically me for now until her motherly instincts (or age lol) kicks in and she wants to stop being a career woman and be a full time mom.
