I just know that have a limit 14 days inside and then have to check out from singapore then check in again.

FYI LTA - MY Vehicle in to SG

You are not allowed to use or keep any foreign-registered vehicles in Singapore if you are a:

Singapore Citizen
Singapore Permanent Resident (PR)
Resident of Singapore
Long Term Visit Pass Holder or Dependant Pass Holder
Work Pass Holder who is also a resident of Singapore
Student Pass Holder
Training Employment Pass or Work Holiday Pass

Fall into any above category ?

However you may ride in and out of SG on a daily basis if you are a Workpass holder , will have 10 FREE VEP days then daily paying $4 for Motor also get a vehicle IU even it is a motor.

In short only Tourist can drive in and park for 14 days.

would be transferring soon to Singapore. would be great to have advice on
1. Price of food in foodcourt at Raffles - $ per meal average
2. Price of flying / bus back to Johor / KL
3. Utilities for a 2 bed apartment (electricity, water, garbage, council, internet)
4. Handphone packages (get a new phone with lowest package)
5. Other costs?
*
1) 4- 8 SGD
2) Bus 50 - 100 SGD ( online have all the tix price) , Fly average 150 - 200 SGD per return Trip
3) Depend where you stay , if nearer to raffles typically 2.5k and above
4) If your company is a big corporation very high chance they have corp plan tie with any 3 Telco , average price 30 - 50 SGD / Month
( eg . got corp plan get a 4G4 plan monthly 40 - 50 , a new Samsung S6 plus about 200 ++ SGD )
5) Since around City center set aside 200-500 monthly for happy hour - if you are into it , also depends which industry and group of friend and colleagues.

damn i've been looking for jobs in my field (environmental management) in sg and been rejected twice already. disheartening, it's really competitive down there. though i've only been looking online. is it more advisable to go down for a few days and go through the papers? I'm fresh masters grad, pardon my noobness.

Hi,

Anyone can advise if the job require you to own a car but they do not subsidy and oni pay according to milleage , $0.70 per km. Do you think worth it ?

Take into consideration that you pay for your own car insurance, road tax, hdb parking, wear and tear and maintenance.

The only Pros i can think of,

You are more flexible and can drive back to malaysia hometown anytime.
*
Not worth at all , to run a car in SG currently is 1k/Month adding up with with other expenses : Road Tax , Insurance , Parking , Fuel , wear and tear + 500 SGD .

so basically prepare 1,500 per month (min) to have a car in SG , you need to run about 3,000km / Month to break even, do you think you can travel 3000km for business in SG ? with the longest run is 50 km (changi to Tuas) .

1.5k per month is for new car ?

How bout 2nd hand car ? Would it worth the troubles ?

The interviewer told me average their employee claim 1000km, means $700 to $800 per month, i assumed.

Any possibility a 2nd hand car plus other ancillary cost can be cover ?
*
New or second hand not much diff .

unless your salary is high then I have nothing to say .

If you are new to SG you'll cry yourself out . eg Vios balance 2 year about 30k now , first you need to fork out 15k ( 45k MYR) , then monthly paying around 700 SGD (end of 2nd year you'll get back around 6k) ; of course some will just calculate 30/24 , but in SG to get a loan 50-50 rules kicks in .

sgcarmart.com -> check out the second hand car market here.

Suggest do Taxi claim is much better than this arrangement , it works around < 1k worth of claims and save you from liability of the car .

So how much salary you think can afford a car ?

Wat is 30/24 ?

Yeah damn it, just check the sgcarmart, used car oso super exp, somemore all loan cover 50% oni

I cannot opt for taxi claim, becoz this new job required us to standby for emergency , need to react fast, so taxi might not be suitable
Thx for the idea, i check it out

5k at least , so you still could have some saving.

30k/24 months = 1.25k / month

Damn exp too

Looks like my oni option now is used car that within my budget  hmm.gif

So are you thinking having Malaysian car ... that could work if you stay in Johor .

to be honest if 4k barely make through and can be abit tight 1.5k for car , 1k rental +uti +phone , 800 for meals around 500 - 700 for savings or emergency.

IN such case might as well stay put in places like KL , Johor or Penang , with the same dollar dollar pay at least your car is yours forever and working in a less stress environment.

Applying job to SG really have to depend on luck , I have friends submitted hundreds of application , only a few calls came back , if you are dead serious just keep trying.

The easier route is to get referral , to be refer to a certain company or position , that would be easier especially the company had went through some candidates and didn't find a suitable one.

High salary also got eaten by rent. Unless you go rent a small room with two random..

I'm on epass, so not affected by the levy. However, Spass levy is now up to 500 per month.. if you are on spass, the maximum salary you can ever get is 2800 sgd/month. Else, the company better off applying epass as minimum for that is salaried worker of 3300sgd/month with no levy.

Unfortunately for me, I have Indian colleagues on spass. So my boss being the typical stingy businessman decides to assign more work to us. The Indians will never push back.. they are obedient, listen to whatever you say types. So even if you reject the extra workload, you are forced to take on in other ways such as managing the Indians who now are overloaded and can't complete the tasks you assign them to do.. it's a lose lose game as everyone races to the bottom.

MoM rules are not rewarding for workers.. if you run a business, sg is good. But for salaried employees, life is difficult and hard.
Now, businesses are deciding to cut profit margins to kill their competitors or business in general is heading into that direction. Like I say, it is a race to the bottom.

Don't be fooled by the claims you can make 10k sgd a month. For every 1 person earning that much, there are 1000s on cheap, foreign labour..especially Malaysians.

Singaporeans have it the worst as no-one is protecting them from the invasion of cheap, foreign labour. Irony.. as msia gov is too hard in protecting the majority Malays, but sg gov is too soft in protecting the majority Chinese. There need to be a middle ground
*
Well please define high salary .

your claim is abit exaggerated , here in SG I have met 2 FT turn into Business owners , 1 from Myammar and another from India, they have started as labours as well , real kuli level work them self up and prove to strive. One in Automation another in Electrical Field.

There's a limitation on so call foreign cheap labor , as MOM limits and control the WP count also have set a minimum salary bench mark , which also explans why there's older generation working in fast food chains, limited Man power and tight in making ends meet for retirement ( but probably half work just to spend their time , don't be amazed a McD worker is able to travel overseas on a yearly basis and easily meeting daily usage) .

My opinion is the other way round , run a business MY (especially foreign business) is a better place forever blue / white collar SG is a better place. Kuli ?! of course SG better , any foreigner after 3 months pay easily afford a smart phone !

Those who made an effort to come to SG typically their pay will be 2 - 5 k range , above 5k is consider mid high income (which is also a borderline for HDB purchase ) , reaching 8k above basically financially quite well off (car is not an issue) .

Labour Work from Malaysia generally are working in food courts , counters , low-mid manufacturing factories, electrician , plumber , C&S works
High-end Labor : Machinist , Welder , Crane Operator

A factory worker in and out of SG , typical they compare : working in Senai : 1,1 MYR and while SG - 1k SGD , both are similar factory working condition. In your case which will you choose ?

For professionals they have more things to take into consideration , a change to SG may be a change of life style , anyone started to work in Penang or KL with a decent salary may suffer for the first few months , as savings are shrunk , no car , small room (on rent) , life style cut down / change .

So my advice Malaysian to SG start young, things will get very sticky if you are older especially with family or even starting fam planning or with kids.

Best is come to SG with Expat package ! usually 8k above pay , lodging allowance , and some transport allowance or even a car !

For your transfer pay should be sufficient to bring family over , 70 - 80 % of your MY pay are the common package, better still if your wife is working ,

kids education should take about : 1-2k ( depend on age) .
Daily meals ( Not too fancy) : 1.5 k
Rental ( a HDB ) : 2-3k (depending on location)
Moving your family : Dependent pass
Tax : Only income Tax ( next is GST which paid whenever you pay)
PR : after receiving pay for 6 month ( but alot recommend that to do it after paying your first income tax )

May be abit tight but is better if your wife is able to work as well , else wife full time housewife cut off day care and mostly home cook easily can save 1k + -

Since you have a family it is a better choice to stay in SG, to me is not worth the travelling time especially if you can have middle income above range in SG ,
4 hours daily commuting * 5 day = 20 hours a week on the road (in my opinion isn't worth it )
Spend your time for yourself and with family = something you can't exchange with money.
Staying in Johor makes it difficult to OT
*unless work place around Tuas or Woodlands may have a chance to cut down to 2-3 hours border crossing time

Just be mentally prepare = a smaller place for your family , in exchange for a safer environment and a better education system (never mind the Kiasu scoring comparison that's constantly going on )

To All Bro and Sis here , after reading the border crossing difficulties face by fellow Malaysian (some probably are Singaporeans). I sincerely advice rent a place in SG rather to face the miserable daily crossing.

I have been all the while supporting the idea to stay in SG instead of traveling , especially if you are working in SG pay 1,500 above please stay in SG.

Let me compute :
Daily borders crossing about SGD 3 * 20 = 60 SGD
Your per hour pay min 8 SGD * 20 * 4 (hours travelling) = 640 SGD

That's easily 700 SGD value , infact we shouldn't place monetary value on lost hours it is actually way way much higher , time wasted can't be earn.

With 500 - 600 SGD can have a common room around outskirt , probably closer to your work place.

With budget 200-300 SGD can have a shared common room , definitely choose closer to work place.

Not only save on traveling time , able to be more relax and spend more quality time for yourself , further more can earn more by during OT or Odd jobs !

If concern about daily cost usage bring in food from Malaysia : Tuna , Milo , Bread, Biscuits , Fruits ; either way can refresh every week while going back for groceries shopping , actually if wanna save the hassle eating at the food court around outskirt area still have 2.5 SGD noodle and rice , 4 SGD Zhi Cha comparable what it is in JB (because I know you guys will go have it at Wong Kok , Ajishen , Daore , old town ... etc etc.. )

It would be a different case for those who drive in and out daily. Above suggestion are those travelling via Bikes and Bus / walk....

Only thing to hinder this idea , is when you have a family , it would be more sensible if both are working and combine income > 8k , then is easier to have whole family in SG.

Please do not waste your time to save the few hundred dollars , isn't worth your health .

Don't be hinder by low pay and general job , i have always encourage my colleagues who are clerical or jr executive level to go ahead with their application , especially they are serious to stay put for a longer period , so far success rate is quite high .

As long working in an office environment do go ahead !

But have forgotten they only enjoy their ride and meals only during weekend , so why spend your daily commuting miserably.

I'm senior enough to nego my price but am really not experienced enough to estimate the cost of living in SG, hence any help is much appreciated.

General packages for MY to SG converts : 70 - 80% of MYR pay

Internal transfer : may get 1 to 1 pay , + relocation allowance

Promotional packages - means promote to a position in SG or ask to go to SG for a high /bigger portfolio : nego increment + allowance

Headhunted for Senior Position , Upon Invitation (typically MNC) : Expat packages >>8k pay , having P1 pass , comes with additional housing and transport allowance

Those are general market observation .

Can't really benchmark how much to send back home and nego salary leh , kinda weird way of salary negotiation.
