Dear my fren at lowyat,

I would like to clarify whether it is possible to earn RMB20k++ plus hostel and transportation to work as an engineer in China (FRESH GRADUATE from local Uni)?

Thank you
*
Almost impossible.

Top graduates from very reputable universities can make 10k to 20k RMB a month in booming tech companies. Some foreign consulting firms might also pay a lot. These opportunities are very rare and competitive.

You're the one applied and accepted this job. Why complaining? Keep your mouth shut and look for new job.

Why the hostility? and yes i am applying for new jobs at the moment. I was satisfied with what they were giving me, turned out everything wasn't as rosy as promised. No need to be so hostile.

Most of the work today is still on premise eg. high transactional/large datasets but many have moved to cloud native eg. ERP or email. The former will likely go to hybrid eventually.
I'm in oil and gas/energy. Think exploration, subsurface, drilling. Not business IT...

I understand that. The local companies in KK pay ridiculous salary. In KK, Its consider lucky to get paid RM2000 for a fresh grad. You know la typical mindset the tauke2 here. You can try to find jobs in SG. I believe theres a thread assisting to find jobs in SG.

Apparently so.. Moving over to either west malaysia or sg will somewhat be a very big move for me.. Given my age, to start all over again from the bottom is considered worst case scenario liao..

Very sad to see Sabah salaries.. Sarawak too... The private sector wages there need some form of "minimum wage".. Maybe RM1.3-1.5k is suitable

The gov, I believe has imposed a minimum wage of 800 here and comes july, it will be 920 if I'm not mistaken. I have had several friends/relatives working in some well established private company for more than 15 years and their salary is still under the 4k mark, got a few in manager position somemore.. Most of us here still uphold the mentality of working in the gov sector to land a decent pay.

Yes-that mentality would not increase the wealth as salary in govt is low too..Maybe own business is best.
