Normally PSU has good efficientcy (waste least wattage) at between 25% to 75% load/usage. The best PSU efficientcy is usually at 50% load/usage. You can see PSU review articles (especially from jonnyguru.com) for this information. Also 80+, 80+ bronze/silver/gold will give you higher efficientcy than those not rated with 80+. If yr rig needs 400w, using non 80+ 500w PSU at 80% load could waste about 20w of electricity if compare to using 80+, or waste about 40w if compare to using 80+ gold PSU. Wasted wattage from is generated into heat which warm up your work place. Buy the higher w PSU with at least 80+ if you can afford it.

For your system, since you have overclocked the processor, I'd say a 550W power supply would be sufficient for it. 700W is more than enough.

helo sifus... im looking into getting a new psu soon... im on a budget constrain like around rm200++. I also leave my computer nearly on 24hours. This is the specs for my computer

Dual Core E6500
4GB DDR2
3X Sata HD (2TB) - occasionally will plug in another 2 external HD once in a while
Gigabyte 9800 GT

I might want to upgrade my graphic card later in the near future. So can the sifus recommend me which psu i should get with my budget constrain and also my future upgrade? biggrin.gif

For RM200, you can get the Seasonic Silence Pro 500W or the Silverstone Strider 500W at RM199. What card are you planning to get in the future and what would your budget be for the future card?

Owh i see. At first i thought i wanted to get the cooler master GX 650W. In comparison to the above recommendations that you suggested, which is better together with the GX. Coz ive heard some not so good reviews about that particular PSU. The future graphic card that i plan to get would be about rm500++...

Well.. The only few cards that you can get at that range ( RM500 ~ RM600 ) would be the XFX HD5850 RM499, Leadtek GTX460 1GB OC RM549, Sapphire HD6850 at RM579. These three will run under a 500W power supply fine.

Otherwise, if you're talking about one year later or something, then we'll see what we have then smile.gif.

Ahh i see. Thanks for the graphic card recommendations. But i sort of leave my computer on nearly 24/7 and i plug in alot of hard disk. Don't u think that that there could be a possibility that my computer might crash because there just might not be enough juice out of the PSU? I feel that could happen...

Hard disk drive normally only take around 5W ~ 10W of power.

But if you'd like to stay on the safe side, then go with the Silverstone Strider Plus 600W at RM279.

Avoid the Cooler Master GX Series power supplies as these power supplies are terrible in quality and will damage your hardware in the long run due to the high ripple and electrical noise on its rails. smile.gif

Yes, it is enough. But if you haven't bought that power supply yet, I'd recommend buying the Seasonic Silence Pro 750W from Lingloong at RM329 excluding postage costs.

Well, in my honest opinion, no. There are better alternatives out there e.g the Silverstone Strider Plus 600W at RM279 and the Xigmatek Bronze 600W at RM289, or the Seasonic Silence Pro 750W at RM329 and the XFX XXX Edition 650W at RM369 ( getting hard to find as it's pretty popular ). The Gigabyte Odin GT 550W is priced at RM339 from PC-Zone.

Guys,

Do you recommend using Gigabyte Odin GT 550W PSU which is modular and 80+ certified. SLI possible.

Found the price at RM 169 from Jayacom price list.

Worth it? Better than Silverstone Strider Essential ST50F 500W 80+ RM 180?

Thanks.
