Even Goldfries is using the Gigabyte PowerRock 390W to power up his GTX460, for 24/7 folding.
I don't see any point for the Gigabyte PowerRock 390W for not able to support HD5670/HD6670.

How come enough? I read some article that graphic draw the power from psu +12 current, and Gigabyte 390W only supply 288W in +12, can briefly explain it? thank you very much. notworthy.gif

my specification as per my siggy and these are my future upgrades:

1) Xfire my 6870
2) WC (including CPU, GPU, 2 fan rad and northbridge)

I'm thinking to sell my exisitng PSU to my friend (he's burn out already) and get 1000W of PSU, what are you guys recommendation. I'm thinking of CM Silent Power Gold, any other PSU that better than that in term of price and performance?

Hello...
After reading some of the comments here... I noticed that you guys will die for Seasonic X Series PSU.

I am planning to build a rig as below.
Intel i5 2500k
ASRock P68 PRO3 GEN3 (Waiting for it to be available in M'sia).
MSI N560GTX-TI Twin FrozeII
Team Elite DDR3 PC3-10666 1333Mhz 4GB x 2
LG IPS236V LED Monitor
OCZ Agility 3 60GB SSD
1 TB Samsung HDD
CPU Cooler (donno which one to buy yet)

I am noob in OC but planning to do some basic OC from the Auto software or whatever.

I am thinking of getting the Seasonic-X 560 80+.
LYN selling around RM350.
Was thinking, at this price, I get some other higher rating PSU but for you guys... which one you think is better?
This or any others similar pricing PSU with higher W?

Others like
Corsair 700GS GAMING Series
Corsair 650TXV2UK TX V2 Series
FSP EPSILON 80 Plus 600 Watts
Xigmatek NRP-MC702 (700W) 80Plus Bronze Modular
XFX P1-650X-NLG9 650W Single Rail PSU
Silverstone SST-ST56F - Low noise, 560W with EPS
Silverstone SST-ST60F-P - Single rail 80Plus Bronze, Modular
Vantec ION2Plus R.Power Modular 700W - VAN-700AS/VAN-700A
Gigabyte ODIN PLUS 700W GE-G700A-C1
Gigabyte ODIN PRO 550w GE-M550A-D1
Gigabyte SuperB 720Watt - RM320
FSP Aurum 80 Plus Gold 600 Watts*12cm Fan

And of course many more....

Quite true tongue.gif my dad rage at me after I keep pestering him to get me X-750W.

Actually for 500W units, don't really have to get Seasonic X series. Only if you're going above 750W then it is well worth every penny, but then money is a problem too.

for 500W,
FSP Hexa 500W RM159 - if you're on budget
Gigabyte Odin GT 550W RM169 - if you're planning to get GTX 570 on budget
Silverstone Strider Essential 500W - RM219 - if you've loads of cash to spend

The only drawback from this power supply is its high ripple and noise level at +12 V when delivering 650 W, touching the maximum allowed.

HAHAHAHAHHAH, should be the same as CM GX.

Im using Silverstone ST56F for 3 years+
Lately the fan sometimes spin and stop for a while.. Is this normal or it showing that the fan is going to die? Nothing else happen to the system, just the fan stop moving..

There are some reports that the ST56F has a stop-start type fan, where the fan stops when the load is low and starts when the load starts increasing to a level which can generate quite a bit of heat. smile.gif But such information is not confirmed, and neither does Silverstone state such a feature.

Anyway, these are the possible reasons for a fan's failure :

1) Worn out bearing
2) Worn out motor
3) Clogged up by dust

If your power supply is still under warranty, and the fan has not acted in such a way before, then proceed to RMA it. smile.gif

Thanks TDU for quick and good reply. smile.gif
I will monitor the fan again with Folding running. If the fan still stop, then maybe i should do something with the fan.. (Don't think still under warranty unsure.gif )

Try stressing your GPU too while Folding@Home by using MSI Kombustor. That should create a load enough to instruct the fan to keep on running to cool the power supply. smile.gif

Ok, will try MSI Kombustor too. Hope the fan stop just because of low load. smile.gif

If your fan is indeed problematic, you can consider replacing the power supply's fan yourself by getting yourself a good 120MM fan e.g the Arctic Cooling F12 120MM Fan or the Cooler Master Xtra Flo 120MM fan ( if you do not mind a high-speed fan with a loud noise ), and also by getting yourself a 3 pin to 2 pin converter via this seller. Since your power supply is out of warranty, it probably wouldn't hurt to open up your power supply biggrin.gif. But be cautious when opening up the power supply. You do not want to brush against the capacitors or anything else otherwise you could get shocked.

Edit : His is a 2 pin to 3 pin converter, not the other way round hmm.gif. You may want to hunt for the converter from another place, or attempt to mode wires biggrin.gif.

Hmm.. it seems the fan just stop coz of low load (will continue to monitor). But will try this method if the fan is problematic. Thanks for suggestion notworthy.gif

Thread closed as it exceeds 2.5k post already. As for the time being, i don't think there a need for V2 to be created as user tend to create new threads asking for recommendation for hardware.
