if that then even a 750w psu would be more than enough, hdd never consume more than 15w each

effeciency is like this

your pc wants x watts,so the 80%efficiency psu will take 1.2 x from the wall socket to give to your pc

what card do you want to cf actually?assuming it's hd4870\4890,a 650w psu should be fine.but then again,i don't know what's the continuous power\true power the gigabyte psu can supply

JoBigShow,

the cm psu is capable of supplying more than 400w continuously [more than 460w actually, see hardwaresecrets]].that's a large headroom for even a 4890 [even a 5870 can run]

and why is a 600w psu minimum when the pc doesn't use more than 400w?care to explain?

abubin, the 80% efficiency is the amount of wattage supplied to the parts compared to the amount of wattage taken by the psu from the power outlet
eg.a psu takes 500w from the mains, give 400w to the components and waste 100w as heat [400/500*100=80% efficiency]

that's way the psu is labeled true power ie.able to supply the rated power at the rated efficiency in this case at 80% efficiency.

don't believe me?ask others or open up the form 5 physics text book

and how much do you think a fan uses?120w?it's less than 10w tops

read that ,a i7 + gtx260+ consumes only 370w full load prime 95 and furmark [not that games go to such extends too]

see here for gtx295\i7 920
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coolers/d...ge_8.html#sect0
..............

Added on September 14, 2009, 7:11 pmand overclocking doesn't add 300w to the power consumption either

see here
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/overcl...i7,2268-10.html
computer parts are also getting more power efficient day by day not the other way around

my point is,why waste money on something that you won't need?

just pass by and asking some opinion here.

still  in process building a new non-OC rig(taking some from my old rig).

Q9550+Coolermaster GeminII S
Palit GTX260 Sonic
P45 Mobo
1 x HDD 7200rpm
2 x 2GB RAM 800mhz
1 x Creative Audigy sound card
4 x 80x80mm casing fans

currently have Huntkey Green Power 550w as my psu. Can this psu handle my rig?

yeah, you'll be fine with the psu.if some one comes saying the psu will blow, yes it will but at loads far beyond what you'll pull out of your hardware full load.[it doesn't really blow, just a burst capacitor most of the time]

assuming the hd5870x2 consumes as much power as a gtx295,a 650w psu is enough. i recommend the xigmatek 650w modular psu which costs rm350-380 only.it can and will do the job fine

a 400w psu can do it actually,i believe your original psu still can support it.if there's not enough power it'll shut down

still,if you want to change psu,a xigmatek nrp-pc502 500w rm220 should do the job fine

if you are still afraid, you can get the hd4770 rm350-390.it is pretty much as fast as a hd4850 yet uses just a bit more power than your hd3650 under full load

bAsed on reviews, the the hd5850 uses less than 350w under full load.it's safe to say the hd5850 will be fine with the 550w odin
[iinm goldfries even use it for a gtx295+oced e7200 folding,no problems]
