Good day. Please recommend a build (CPU + monitor only) that can play DotA 2 at max settings with an average of 75fps at 1080p. Budget is approximately 4k inclusive of the monitor.

Additional requirements:
One SSD & one HDD for storage
Built in WiFi would be a plus. If that's too expensive, I can always get a USB dongle.
Don't include the case as I'll pick one myself as design is subjective.
Please quote an ITX build if possible, unless an ATX one is cheaper.
Screen size should be at least 23". Bigger is better, as long as I don't have to sacrifice too much on the response time etc.

Thanks in advance.

ATX is always cheaper than ITX, but your budget can fit ITX build and Dota 2 is not a hardware demanding games, you can build a rig which can max it out pretty easily.

Intel Core i3 6100 - RM 485
Gigabyte H170N-WiFi - RM 569
Kingston 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 196
Palit GTX950 2GB GDDR5 StormX - RM 699
Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB SSD - RM 209
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 188
BenQ GW2470H - RM 589

Total: RM 3150 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

If you want to spend all your budget, you can upgrade to i5 6400 (RM 779) and GTX960 (~RM 900).

Thanks! Nah, the price you set is better, at least then I can get a decent case for within the 4k budget.

Hi guys. Need your help to recommend me to build a CPU that can play Dota 2 at decent 1080P quality. Budget approximately 1k++ only (ya I know it is quite a small budget) exclusive of the monitor.

[Budget] 1k++ (less if possible)

[Purpose] Mostly for light gaming approx. 30% of Dota 2. Some photo and video editing.

[Hardwares that will be re-use] 1TB WD Cavier Blue, Keyboard and Mouse, DVD-RW Writer.

[Monitor resolution]Acer K272HL 27" 1080P 60Hz 5ms LED Monitor DVI-D Monitor. Not HDMI capable. Already bought this monitor for RM685.

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Will use photoshop and some light gaming esp. Dota 2.

[Personal preferences]

Power Supply - FSP HEXA+ 550 Watts - RM189
Casing - Aerocool Strike X One Advance USB3.0 - RM147
RAM - Kingston 8GB HyperX Fury DDR3 1866 - RM199
Motherboard - Please Suggest
CPU - Please Suggest
Graphic Card - Please Suggest
Cooler - Please Suggest

I think within this tight budget I can only get AMD APU series right? I might upgrade my CPU from time to time to more high end rig but maybe by usingAMD build not much that I can do. or any other recommendation? Thank you.

How about getting an ITX rig so you can easily bring it to office when working and put in home when not working?
*
I need to buy 2 rigs, not 1
1x for office
1x for home/game

ITX rig is probably going to cost more. they dont mind a normal tower pc or mini tower size, as long as mobo are standard size and PSU are also standard size.

I know you want 2 rigs, I recommended 1 ITX rig as it is cheaper to build instead of getting 2 standard rig and you can carry it to work and home easily due to small form factor.

Pick Skylake platform and use the iGPU to play Dota 2 for the time being, the iGPU of Skylake (HD 530) is quite powerful, you should be able to get more than 45 FPS at medium settings (1080p).

Get a dedicated GPU when you have extra funds in the future.

No can do ITX and carry every day. Absolutely need 2 rigs.

Can someone confirm i3-4160 iGPU 520 is faster then GT 730 1GB DDR5?

I think what we will do for now is just get an i3 for very basic gaming. I saw youtube people i3-4160 iGPU playing games on HD720p and very low settings, frames are ok.
They will settle for his for now as they really don't want to spend much money at this point, they can always save up and get a 750ti later on. or better yet PSU + R9 270(if still available in future), currently 750ti and r9 270 same price.

------------------- its looks cheaper to buy pre made and less hassle
RM 1,259.00

-2GB
-500GB
-Windows 8
-1 year warranty

yes you're correct, well, it seems that the 2.5k doesnt have gpu. Will it affect the usage of software as mentioned in my post before, and for the 4k, what is the differences in performance between GTX750TI and GTX960 ? sorry for noob question, kinda blurr here

2.5k option has iGPU which is HD 530 (almost equivalent to R7 250/GT 740), suitable for light and casual gaming.

Some rendering software will utilize the CUDA technology of Nvidia GPU if available as hardware acceleration, if you don't have any compatible GPU, the software will still work as intended, just the operation time might take longer to complete.

GTX960 is almost twice the performance of GTX750Ti, if you aren't playing graphical demanding games then GTX750Ti is enough (i.e. Dota 2/CSGO etc.).

Casing is too subjective, you can pick your own preference but not recommended to use the cap ayam PSU included in the casing (if any) even with light office workload.

If you are ok with 720p monitor then you can pick a cheaper 720p monitor and upgrade the CPU to i3, it is faster to load/process large word/excel file.

Ops I was confused i3 gen4 and 6,
i3 skylake with HD530 is that similar to GT730/740 then?

Oh I though prebuilt was cheaper, I was aware of would be getting unknowed mobo, hdd, weak PSU. but the ori OS is kind of good.

Let me try to figure this out
Looking at your previous post recomendation and http://www.lelong.com.my/merchant/easyit2u.htm
I have compile the following what you think?

------------- cheap basic iGPU gaming later upgrade GPU ----------

Intel Core i3 4170 - RM 476
Asrock Intel H81M-VG4 - RM 202
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 168
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
DVD ROM - RM 60
FSP Hexa+ 450W - RM 166
Armaggeddon Nanotron T1x - RM85 - cheapest on ETech.
Keyboard/Mouse Logitech MK200 - RM 63
Windows 8.1 pro OEM Ori Lowyat Garagage Sale (iampokemon) - RM 95
Labour for someone to build PC/install OS estimate - RM 80
Courier charges for all item estimate - RM50 - Taiping Perak

Total: RM 1660 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

Changes I have done to your earlier recommendation are:
Changed the mobo to the cheapest one Asrock Intel H81M-VG4, no longer need micro mobo
I opted for the cheapest Case at RM85, spec still functions, is there much difference coz people normally recommend that RM125 Cooler Master case before?
Ori Windows is from Lowyat Garagage Sale (iampokemon)
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3443547

optional skylake upgrade:
Intel Core i3 6100 - RM 485
Gigabyte H110M-DS2 (D4) - RM 289
Kingston 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 196
Pay extra RM 125 difference

Reason not upgrade skylake:
-Dont think there is much benefit in terms of gaming on iGPU intergrated.
-Better save and invest in an graphics card later?
-CPU upgrade path, in few years time 2nd hand prices of i5 gen4 should be cheaper/more available compared to i5 gen6

Reason to upgrade skylake:
-very marginal iGPU intergrated gaming incress coz of faster ddr4 ram.
-future proofing? cheap mobos H81 vs H110M still has the same limits?

------------- Compaired to Prebuild -------------

RM 1,259.00
ASUS K31AD-BING-MY001S

-Asus
-i3-4160
-2GB
-500GB
-Windows 8
-1 year warranty
http://www.lelong.com.my/asus-k31ad-bing-m...6-08-Sale-P.htm

-RM92 - i will add another 4gb RAM
-RM31 - courier charges

Total: RM 1380

Save RM 280 compared to Custom Built.

Pro:
- Save RM280
- Hassle less,
- Easy Factory OS restore function in require reformatting.

Cons:
- 1 Year Warranty only (else 1-3 year parts)
- 6GB instead of 8GB
- 500GB HDD instead of 1TB
- i3-4170 vs i3-4160 Only 0.1GHZ slower
- mobo unknow
- PSU 250W unknown
- No factory reset function.
- OEM Win8 from lowyat may have issue

---------------------
It seems Custom is RM280 more expensive but I think its worth it, i get more longer warranty, more ram, larger hdd, large psu, easy replaceable mobo.

TQVM for the explanation, it seems that my friend is not a big fan of high graphic games for 4k budget and 2.5k budget can get a GPU later on.And another question, what if the budget is used for a pure workstation, what is the specification for both 4 and 2.5k budget sweat.gif

It will still be the same build, if your workload doesn't require any GPU (CUDA/OpenCL etc.) then drop the dedicated GPU (GTX750Ti), the CPU (i7) is considered as top tier consumer grade CPU already, so no need to upgrade it (unless you want to go for overclocking setup), so in this case the total cost will be less than 3.5k, if you don't need SSD, it can be removed as well to save cost, while the rest of the parts are necessary as they are the basic requirements to run a PC.

Ops I was confused i3 gen4 and 6,
i3 skylake with HD530 is that similar to GT730/740 then?

Oh I though prebuilt was cheaper, I was aware of would be getting unknowed mobo, hdd, weak PSU. but the ori OS is kind of good.

Let me try to figure this out
Looking at your previous post recomendation and http://www.lelong.com.my/merchant/easyit2u.htm
I have compile the following what you think?

------------- cheap basic iGPU gaming later upgrade GPU ----------

Intel Core i3 4170 - RM 476
Asrock Intel H81M-VG4 - RM 202
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 168
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
DVD ROM - RM 60
FSP Hexa+ 450W - RM 166
Armaggeddon Nanotron T1x - RM85 - cheapest on ETech.
Keyboard/Mouse Logitech MK200 - RM 63
Windows 8.1 pro OEM Ori Lowyat Garagage Sale (iampokemon) - RM 95
Labour for someone to build PC/install OS estimate - RM 80
Courier charges for all item estimate - RM50 - Taiping Perak

Total: RM 1660 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

Changes I have done to your earlier recommendation are:
Changed the mobo to the cheapest one Asrock Intel H81M-VG4, no longer need micro mobo
I opted for the cheapest Case at RM85, spec still functions, is there much difference coz people normally recommend that RM125 Cooler Master case before?
Ori Windows is from  Lowyat Garagage Sale (iampokemon)
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3443547

optional skylake upgrade:
Intel Core i3 6100 - RM 485
Gigabyte H110M-DS2 (D4) - RM 289
Kingston 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 196
Pay extra RM 125 difference

Reason not upgrade skylake:
-Dont think there is much benefit in terms of gaming on iGPU intergrated.
-Better save and invest in an graphics card later?
-CPU upgrade path, in few years time 2nd hand prices of i5 gen4 should be cheaper/more available compared to i5 gen6

Reason to upgrade skylake:
-very marginal iGPU intergrated gaming incress coz of faster ddr4 ram.
-future proofing?  cheap mobos H81 vs H110M still has the same limits?

------------- Compaired to Prebuild -------------

RM 1,259.00
ASUS K31AD-BING-MY001S

-Asus
-i3-4160
-2GB
-500GB
-Windows 8
-1 year warranty
http://www.lelong.com.my/asus-k31ad-bing-m...6-08-Sale-P.htm

-RM92 - i will add another 4gb RAM
-RM31 - courier charges

Total: RM 1380

Save RM 280 compared to Custom Built.

Pro:
- Save RM280
- Hassle less,
- Easy Factory OS restore function in require reformatting.

Cons:
- 1 Year Warranty only (else 1-3 year parts)
- 6GB instead of 8GB
- 500GB HDD instead of 1TB
- i3-4170 vs i3-4160 Only 0.1GHZ slower
- mobo unknow
- PSU 250W unknown
- No factory reset function.
- OEM Win8 from lowyat may have issue

---------------------
It seems Custom is RM280 more expensive but I think its worth it, i get more longer warranty, more ram, larger hdd, large psu, easy replaceable mobo.

Build is ok, if you are satisfied with it, go for it.

Format OS is pretty easy nowadays, just create a recovery partition (if you prefer this way) or create a bootable OS stick and install from it (easier if you know how to do).
