I already tried that before deciding to drop by to the service center. even remove the microSD card (mine only 32GB Samsung brand).
- flash using WDRT, and even use the phone with pre-anniversary update.
But it still "shut down" or random reboots whenever the phone feels like it

I am most certainly sure that my issue is caused by the battery. The battery is slightly bulged and my issues usually arises when power is below 50%, is like there's not enough power to operate the phone.
Whenever i'm plug in, via computer USB or the original charger, i didn't experience the issue.

This is the first phone that i use which the battery kaput in less than a year.
I been using 920 for almost 14 months, then 1520 which i been using for around 16 months.

I know MS exiting the consumer market and waiting for the next "big thing" but at least provide a decent service to existing customers, and waiting 2-3 months for a battery replacement is not really a good experience.

Now I don't really know what to do with the phone, get another phone and sell the 950 XL or wait for the battery.
What if I didn't use the phone for a couple of months and when i start to use it with the new battery replacement other problems arise due too long didn't use the phone?  bangwall.gif  bangwall.gif

I see - I believe the bulging battery is a telltale sign -- I think the local service should be able to order the battery .. but it sucks they need to keep your phone when ordering it.

This is a similar case to yours:

About getting another phone - was just wondering the same thing after thinking about what happens when the Microsoft store stops supplying apps and updates to Windows mobile - like whatsapp, etc. At this point, I was looking at the Sony xperia XZ just released - which looks so much like a Lumia - the 735 to be exact - with new snapdragon... very tempting.. but I really like the 950XL large amoled..

nope, only charged using the USB cable that comes with it, and the original charger
i usually charge in the morning around 6am, and unplug at around 7.30am

luckily i dont need to leave my phone there, but then i also cannot use the since the battery is already "buldged"
whatsapp is still ok in windows 10 mobile, i even like the whatsapp UI in windows 10 mobile more than iOS or android.
i dont really use that much apps, so as long as i have the essentials apps i need.
i'm going to miss the 950 XL camera, especially the camera app UI

one thing for sure, i will now think twice about getting "not-so-hot" devices, to avoid this kind of issue
even if MS announce a super surface phone on Oct 26, i might not get it unless their after sales service improves

I have encountered this issue before especially contacts which I add directly on the phone. What I did was i edited the phone number on the contact (just key in the number again) and save the contact on the phone again. Once that is done, refresh WhatsApp favourites and you should see the contact in WhatsApp.

Hope this helps.

Can you check if your contacts are sync to Outlook/Microsoft Account? try going Outlook.com > People see if all your contacts are there, just want to make sure your contacts are valid.

When you install WhatsApp you did get a code to verify your phone number right? It should capture your address book, if it doesnt can you try Inviting someone or someone to msg you just to check if WhatsApp is working?

Last resort you might have to reset your phone, btw what OS build are you on?

Original set with warranty from Microsoft, 950XL Dual SIM selling for MYR1,350 right now. is it a good buy? Or do you think the price will drop further to below MYR 1,000 in next 3 months since Microsoft is going to launch the Surface phone?

Its a good buy now, dont think it will drop lower. Thats half of launch price or more, was it RM2999 at launch? i cant recall.

Anyway based on how local reseller stock up windows phone, you probably wont be able to find them in stock soon lol

Does anyone know how much the 950XL brand new is selling for now? Someone told me they slashed the price by almost RM1,000. Don't know if this is true.

Thanks in advance!
