Update about my car :

1) went to sc aftr the car coolant above min level.....aftr chcking they found problem with water pump...SC need to order from HQ......SC said its normal for turbo car like pug suck a lot of coolant....also they topup the coolant

2) Is it true that Malaysia pug took out the coolant alert from the car becoz it too sensitive....i means if the coolant touch the min level it will beep us although it still sufficeint for the car....that what been told by my SC....  hmm.gif
*
My water pump also changed before due to leaking of coolant.
My coolant level always able/ manage to last till next service, no top up needed before the service interval. If you need to top up before the next service, mean somewhere's wrong.

That time my coolant also dropped below min level, no warning sign/ alert appear.

Hi, am planning to get a pre-owned 408T. Wondering the following items are covered under the 4th & 5th years warranty:-
1. Air cond compressor
2. Sensor
3. Engine
4. Turbo components
5. Gearbox
And also what's the estimate cost of replacing the items above if not covered under warranty.

Furthermore I understand that this model is prone to air cond compressor, sensor & turbo issues. Are that true?

4th & 5th year warranty covers only engine & gearbox.

Sensors are cheap, around $200.

I won't say this model is prone to list of defects you stated, as not every owner faced the problems. A very few had coolant temp.sensor & air con bearing claimed under warranty. It is important to note, none has come back to complaint recurrence of the problem. Therefore these defects are not proned , but rather they were qc issues.

This model carries a redesigned turbo unit. No one has any complaints , mine on 4th year, no problems!

Gear box, no issues at all, mine still silky smooth. You may want to note, VW dsg & Frod's dual clutch gb issues are still not resolved.

This engine/gb combo has proved itself reliable already, go for it! nod.gif

one suggestion, can the thread starter (bro jfcheong ?) help to add some of the important info such as maintenance schedule, cost etc to the first page in v1? that way, it is much easier for any new joiner smile.gif

I've recently changed my tyre as well, i found that most of the prices mentioned here are quite high, probably much better tyres, but if anyone looking for more economical and yet with decent performance/comfort, you may consider Goodyear Excellent series, which i managed to get it and RM240/pc in Klang, QS Tyre, very friendly boss there and service is also quite good.

At 1.42 tonne, the 408 Turbo I think is one of the heaviest in it's category.

For a vehicle having such output, the acceleration is not very impressive probably due to it's weight and the efficiency of the transmission.

The engine itself actually has higher output than the 1.4 TSI 160 engine that we have locally, but sadly, the transmission has taken away some of the output from the engine.

I kinda believe that the compound made the tire is what determines the price of the tire itself besides the dimension, hence the cheaper price despite the same dimension.

one thing which i always puzzled is the tyre price is so much diff between shops/ places, the same Goodyear tyre when i ask around SK, Kajang area, the price can be as high as rm400/pc, Puchong slightly lower around 300...as usual the shop in Klang beat all the competitors

May I suggest to check the manufacturing date of the tire? Generally, tire manufactured earlier would be sold cheaper than the one which is manufactured later. Tire manufactured year 2014 would be cheaper than tire manufactured 2015. That's what I noticed, I could be wrong.

Well then, I think the RM100 of difference is significant.

It is the largest c segment car. Very spacious rear seats and compartment. For sure your family will not complaint. I guess there's a price to all this comfort and space.

Aisin gb is definitely the slow link with this cars performance. Although it is not as fast as dsg or powershift,it is a whole lot more reliable! Personally, I prefer reliability as it will be much less painful on the pocket.

On handling the 408t beats the Jetta hands down!

Hehehe...... you know the answer already! Actually I've over simplified it for newbe sake, it's a lot more complexed. You must be on the 4th year, keeping warranty valid? I've dumped it in the toilet.....opppss ....don't say it too loud!

One of reason is, I want to use Mobil 1. Now I understand Mobil 1 is offered at all SC. I don't mind Total, but not a fan of Syntium at all.

Yeah, I think you're right on the cabin space, and I was surprised by the huge trunk space. And in fact, both me and the another test driver have tested both the Jetta and the 408 Turbo, she dislikes the Jetta due to the cabin layout and comfortability level and she prefer the 408 Turbo the most over other models.

With regards to handling, you are absolutely right that the 408 Turbo's handling is better, no doubt, can't deny it.

Straight line driving dynamic is being held back by it's own weight and the transmission I believe.

I don't mind the tranny, but imagine the weight is even heavier than the latest 508 THP. Power is needed to create the momentum sweat.gif

I believe both the factor of vehicle weight and the efficiency of the transmission are what resulting the not so impressive fuel consumption and it's straight line dynamic.

And the half hearted right hand drive vehicle is another thing, look at the glove box, the bonnet release level, the orientation of the hand brake lever, you will know what I'm referring to.

Both Jetta and the 408 don't have projector and xenon headlight too, what a disappointment.
