Guys
Please advise. I have just upgraded from vip20 to unifi50. After calling support they informed my old router may not support the higher wifi speed.( TP Link 300 wireless n) thus my question. What router would you advise that will support the new bandwidth? Thanks in advance.

are you solely on wifi or got wired??? if not fine dual band router.... so far 5ghz give more juice compare 2.4ghz for my case.... normally can get 48-50mbps compare 2.4ghz 38-42mbps...

That, and also if you have multiple family members or housemates that are into high bandwidth content. Higher throughput allows everyone to have a smoother experience. Even if someone is hogging, it would most likely be for a lesser time, all the time... 5Mbps is just enough for a single user to stream a typical 1080p movie, provided it has been compressed to around 2GB. Leaves no headroom for anything else though. In the future when 60fps / 4k HD / 3D content matures, 50Mbps would barely do the job for a family of 5 for example...

im planning to upgrade from vip5 to vip30 but i saw someone mentioned that the free local call will remove and upload bandwidth is capped, but my friend says no. Can anyone verify that  for me?

if i remember correctly, from vip5 to vip30, the only thing that change is just the download speed right ?
*
First 30Mbps is not a VIP package.
Now, officially the free locals have been removed and upload speed is 5Mbps.
Some got calls from the sales team and managed to retain the free local calls but upload speed is still the same at 5Mbps.

In short, 30Mbps download and 5Mbps upload.

Is the VIP20 (20Mbps download and 20Mbps upload) better than 30Mbps for surfing, streaming and downloading movies?

Currently mine is VIP20. RM229/month.
Wonder how much is VIP30 or 50?

Also wonder RT-AC 66 ASUS router can support VIP50?

If you don't mind me asking, why 50 Mbps while you are already using 20 Mbps? I am still using 2 Mbps. Ha.

I am using Net Meter. I can get 1.7 Mbps on clear days. Sometimes streaming is slow and this is not due to my 2 Mb as Net Meter is sitting at 0.2-0.5 Mbps (limitation is somewhere else). So even if I upgraded to 50 Mbps, I think I will still be sitting at 0.2 - 0.5 Mbps for that connection. Correct me if I am wrong.

Sorry to trouble you. Just trying to find out more and to clear my mind on upgrading. Ha.

Cheerio.

I don't know because I haven't tried VIP 20 before but I think the upload speed is great for uploaders.
In term of streaming, I believe download speed plays a crucial role.

I stream Full HD content using my sister's 4Mbps Streamyx buffers a lot. I use my own 30Mbps to stream and no issue at all.
I download my stuff within few minutes, while slower speed takes longer time. Not everyone likes to wait and wait.
If 1Mbps or 2Mbps can do the work, why ISP bothers to upgrade their speed?

My estimate says I need at least 5 Mb for HD streaming. 10 Mb will be nicer.

I have tested PC Kodi on my 2 Mb streamyx. Yes, watching 1080 movie, I need to break it into blocks, let it buffer up. 720 can be a full flow.

So, for full enjoyment, plan is to go for 5 Mb (maybe even 10 Mb). Now, asking myself whether I need 30 or 50 Mb as they are many people here upgrading to these.

Just speaking my mind.

Guys need some info regarding upgrade to VIP 30.

- TM salesman called me offering to upgrade from VIP20 to VIP30. The price will be the same price I'm paying for VIP20 atm.
- I said to him for that same price I could get VIP50, but he said since I live in condo (using telephone wiring) VIP50 might not be able to get the full speed. Is this true?  hmm.gif
-Also since I said the price for VIP30 should be cheaper than VIP20 I'm paying right now. He doesn't not have the authority to offer me the cheaper price  rclxub.gif

sweat.gif If you are not under contract anymore and want to upgrade your speed to 30Mbps just go to TM Point to do that.

Ya, I heard 50Mbps is not available for high rise (5th floor and above).

Anyway, 30Mbps and 50MBps are not VIP package.

just gotten a call from TM to upgrade from VIP 10 - VIP30.

One question, does the promo price changes often ?

"she" offered me VIP 30 + Jumbo Pack at RM219 -GST = RM232 +GST

but i thought its VIP30 + Jumbo Pack at RM229 -GST = RM242 +GST ?

What is it all about ? did i mishear or mmg it changes often depending on 'new' promotions ?

I need a new router for my Unifi but I can't afford to buy those above RM200+ ones.

Can you guys recommend me a good router that is around my budget? RM100 to RM200.

If possible has wider range and good for online gaming.

easy say, if you comfort with your current speed, then just continue enjoying it....

For me, I need better latency, fiber-optic can saving extra 40ms compare to copper line (even stable compare to thunderstorm)

Today got a call from TM sales team, offer to 30Mbps with free calls + hypptv jumbo with RM 219 (ex GST), but I added the ruby package need another RM 20.

I'm currently on VIP20, but frankly I seldom do uploading. Hope no issue for online gaming, else my bro going curse me coz he is playing PS4.

Compare to my current payment, extra Rm 21.2 for hypptv package.

Normally how long it take to complete the process?

Going to cut my astro soon.....Just that I still cant give up on AOD
