Normal because the engine break is applied on that condition, if you drive manual also the same
For example you currently using 3rd gear at 3k rpm then you go downhill without pressing the Throttle pedal, the engine noise will be loud.. i don't know if this true or not but based  on what i read, the engine breaking is applied on that condition.. Unless if you change your gear to Neutral then the sound will be gone..
If i'm wrong please correct me thx..

It's a well-known characteristic of Proton's CVT gearbox. The downhill braking is very sensitive. The higher rev doesn't make you go faster, but tries to slow you down instead.

If you gently step on the accelerator it'll be less prevalent, but still noticeable. If you want to totally avoid downhill braking, the only way is to shift to N. However, you'll adding a lot more stress on the brakes which will lead to brake fade.

I know it's the engine braking.. Because going downhill, the car will pick up speed but at same time throttle is not pressed, so the engine stops the car going faster and the RPM climbs up, and the horrifying noise comes alive.
But seriously man the sound so bloody loud it makes me worried that something wrong might happen to the engine/car.. doh.gif doh.gif

I know for Manual you can shift to N for downhill slopes, but CVT/Auto shift to N and cruise not good for the transmission kan? Because once you are at the end of the slope, you have to change gear back to D from N while the car is moving with speed.. hmm.gif

what do you mean by audio imbalance for the sound system? Is it speakers spoiled or what?  hmm.gif

Btw for the dashboard rattle, is your noise from the left side, near the passenger airbag side?
If same place rattling noise, then for my first 1k i wanna go there too if they can rectify the rattling noise..

sometimes the volume turned out loud eventho the volume is low, yeah. the vibrating came from the left side.

do you know how they fixed the problem then? Changed speakers/radio for you or did some wiring works?
Okay so roughly our dashboard rattle is the same source, so i'll put priority on that SC for servicing..

It's normal. after a while 3k rpm is nothing, 4k rpm is where the engine come alive. Just press the gas pedal a little bit to reduce engine braking. And don't fiddle with the gear selector when the car is in motion.

yes i know about the 4k rpm sound, i've already been there tongue.gif

But going downhill and having that sound just doesn't feel comfortable for driver and passengers.. and further, going downhill and having to press the gas pedal just to reduce engine braking is just so stupid and unnecessarily increases fuel consumption. Haih.. sweat.gif

me too dislike the aggressive engine braking but that is the characteristic of punch cvt, just made me nervous even tho i know it would not do any harm at 3k rpm.. just have to live with it..

If manual? for example we going down hill for more then 100m or down hill before toll or cruise until toll is it ok to free gear(neutral)? or just full press the clutch until reach toll?

Yes you can, in fact, some people do this to hypermile.

Manual of course no problem. Because you are in control of the gear @ your current speed. So when you cruise and its time to speed up you just put it in whichever gear appropriate.

But in auto/cvt, you shift to N and cruise then go back to D, the transmission can get damaged cause the car is already moving at speed while engaging the gear. Same thing also when moving from D to R/P, it is adviced to completely stop the car before engaging to a different gear.

For MT, one can cruise by putting the gear in neutral in a few scenarios:
1. Going downhill
2. Reaching a soon-to-stop situation such as a traffic light, a junction, toll, in a jam, etc.

Accumulated, one can potentially get 5% or move of total distance travel daily by cruising.

just asking, won't engine braking give bad effectto our engine reliability in the long term?
especially when the road that we often used is hill road? like jalan raya timur-barat (grik - jeli)
