Hi guys,

About to make a purchase for a Preve CFE.
My wife and I needed a new car. We thought our current saga was quite unsafe. The economic weather didn't look all that great to buy an expensive car as well.

We didn't expect much when we went to the showroom for a test drive.
But the salesperson was very patient and good to us. We actually tested Iris and Preve CFE like 6 times.
Story short, I am pretty amazed and proud of where Proton is going towards. It might look cliched but I felt a sense of pride when we finally decided to buy a Proton.

I would like to ask the forum's opinion on adding a reverse camera for the car, should I buy the one the showroom suggested (RM450)? or is there a cheaper way to add a camera and still keep the warranty for everything installed on the car?

Also, we are getting the CFE because we heard that the IAFM+ feels underpowered.
Would it be better to get the IAFM one if we wanted a quieter car?
Is there an alternative to adding a reverse camera on the IAFM+ Preve without spending too much as well?

Thank you.

if CFE, just need spend another 250~300 for adding reverse camera on your original HU. If IAFM+, either change whole HU which is expensive, or adding external view monitor on rear view mirror or whole external unit.. Range around rm200. I would recommend for the turbo version if you are afford it. showroom/proton will not help u to add reverse camera one, most likely is your SA help you to install at outside vendor.. If u lazy to find the accessories then let him settle everything for you..

I recall that it is around RM120 on maintenance service. I think the official schedule has air conditioning maintenance every 30000KM.

Get the Preve Turbo as the power will make a big difference and render the low-spec Preve to be underpowered. Similarly, I have read (and told by one owner) about low-spec Preve owners regretting not going for the high-spec Turbo model.

The Proton Preve is a good value for money car at its price point despite some of the quality issues which can be rectified (within the warranty period) and suitable for those who don't want to spend anything more than RM70k.

Interior panels can be very expensive. Like the glossy faux wood panel, one piece alone can cost near a thousand, so don't break it. One of the reason for the price is because these part number actually include the whole assembly, although you needed only one plastic part.

Another one would be the turbo, break any plastic part, you actually have to pay the price of the entire turbo assembly. There are no separate part number for each. Hence the cost difference when you maintain one car in official SC vs outside workshop that source from kedai potong.

Those interior panels such as the glossy wood panels. They won't break just like that unless someone breaks it on purpose or accident, or the panels fall of by itself. Not sure a bout the plastic part of the Turbo, the exact location of it. Is it the gear knob?

It is a part in the engine bay. The EBC.

The interior panels can break when dismantled.

Hi ChuanHong,

Thank you for your insight.
The SA quoted me RM450. And I thought I should go with him to avoid warranty issues.
You think it would be safe (Warranty wise) to get it outside?
I don't mind going outside to get it done cheaper. Need to find somewhere in PJ to do it.

Thank you.

Yeah, will get the Preve CFE. Going to speak to the SA today.
He is giving 5K+3K (Born 1985) discount.

Thanks again!

If you can, fork out some extra budget to get the CFE, just for the more powerful engine. I suggest test drive both units until you're satisfied, because every so often you can read that they regretted not getting the CFE version just to save a few Ks.

Any installation will, or should, void the warranty, even done by authorised SA. But I've heard if it was to be done by Proton Glenmarie, warranty won't void.
However, most of the times SC will not care for the reverse camera installation because it does not involve any wire cutting and the HU already has the socket, just plug and play.

Recently, there are people who has problem with the fuse box, hence the compressor clutch don't work at all. If yours is totally not working, this might be the problem.

Preve CFE it is then.
Well, to be safe then, might as well ask the SA to install it. Since the showroom also has a service centre, will go back to them for service and such.

The reverse camera will be auto right? As in when I engage reverse, then it will automatically show the camera. Would suck if it is the kind where you need to switch it on the player to see whats behind.

Thanks mushy.

Depends on model, but all I've seen so far are automatic type.
