went there recently, first time plan everything, and here's my find:
hotel:
EQ hotel - nice and clean except wee bit of dust and hairs under the blanket. fan wasn't working well at one of the room as i can only turn it on with very fast speed or switch off, can't control the speed, something wrong with the control knob. other than that the hotel is quite OK despite old building and corridors, toilet is pleasant as it's clean, and no water heater problem at all. though, i feel that i'm staying in first world genting with bigger room + small balcony but pay quite a lot more RM371 for 2 nights (after full F&B voucher rebate, didn't use them at all) at off peak seasons (hotel wan't even filled up 50%). not recommend if you want to feel the coolness of CH as it's carpeted floor which makes the room warm and feels more like genting actually, but will recommend it if you want to have warm night sleep.
strawberry/food:
- went to raju's right opposite EQ, no strawberry to pluck lol. their food and cake are not too expensive (RM4~6 average, can't remember well).
- went to big red's (which is same place as cactus valley, right in brinchang town), plucked quite a bit of strawberry 700g lol cause first time too excited. RM50 per kg, seems expensive but then i don't care as this is first time self-service organize trip. strawberries are generally big and juicy and sweet with slight hint of sourness, bring your own condense milk to go with it, very nice taste!
(came back from big red's then only realized that there was this EQ strawberry place which can self pick right outside EQ hotel lol! ah well)
- desserts at the restaurants in front of de la ferns hotel are more expensive than raju's, not too much different in taste except much better presentation like ice-cream and waffer, like RM5 vs RM7 average
- went to mayflower as per recommended, damn huge portion (compared to KL of course, easily 1.5x of average KL's portion) and nice soup! only RM14 per person for mixed soup (chicken + tom yam). didn't try their herbal soup base and those went for RM16 or RM17'ish. tea only RM3 per pot. gave chicken/beef/g-yoke/squid/fishball/jellyfish/meatball/beehoon/noodle/egg/tons of vege.

- the mini hawker stall in front of EQ hotel there quite nice and slightly cheaper than KL's average price, ordered some small-fry (sai chao) food and actually surprised me with their unique si-chap-hor (dao si version of regular wat tan hor) which didn't manage to find in KL. good portion, and beverages are also slightly cheaper than KL price. recommended if you stay at EQ hotel and don't want to go far! close at 5pm
- restaurant next to the mini hawker stall in front of EQ, "chef xxx" something one with the special eye-catching "yao fan sek" (got rice eat) banner. went there for dinner, also got big-fry (dai chao) and steamboat. tried their personal plate rice dish, smaller portion than the mini hawker stall, but better taste. RM5~6'ish, also slightly cheaper than average KL price, also with some unique dish like lemon chicken (yes, available everywhere in KL as plate dish, but rarely in personal rice dish). free chinese tea (yit char). eat there about 8~9pm'ish. price is ok and nice portion as i wasn't very hungry, good taste and near hotel! not recommend if you're very hungry though.
- jasmine cafe at TR - expensive! ordered mushroom soup and chicken omelet as i don't want to spend $$$ on western food at CH. gave me pizza hut mushroom soup for RM5 and fu yong egg with simple chicken meat for RM9 (despite big portion)! the omelet was so plain with no other spices (but still omelet if you want to argue

) and was oily also.

if you don't crave for western food, no need to go there.
- bharat tea (cameron valley) near tringkap to take some nice photo of their tea plantation, ordered a pot of masala tea (chai) for RM10 and much overpriced IMHO. didn't dare to order the scones, RM12 for 2 scones with butter and jam etc, don't want to spend too much. nice view of the tea plantation though, and no need to climb hill as it's located just right beside main road. recommended to go there for photo only as you can walk into the plantation freely.
- avant chocolate/greed view garden - went there on the way back, saw someone recommended the chocolate fondue thing. quite an expensive place though, RM16'ish for a set of beverage + sandwich or cake, or RM9 for sandwich alone. didn't order the chocolate fondue as it's priced at RM17 (can't remember well, should be) for 2 person, thought of trying it but since i seldom take chocolate nowadays and had enough of strawberries, so didn't order in the end.
- tried the tempura broccoli/enoki/mushroom, at a stall after the butterfly farm and bee farm (going from EQ hotel), and short row of stalls there, got one malay makcik selling. i think it was left at a side for some time, was a little cooled and not crunchy anymore, other wise they're sweet and nice. maybe can request freshly prepared ones. 3 packets for RM5. must put more chillies sauces as it goes very well with the tempura!
- those huge oranges at kea farm not my taste, only got faint orange taste and not much sweetness although completely free of sour taste. however those red/yellow cherry tomatoes are very sweet!
others:
- if you have transport, and want to buy toothbrush or shampoo or the likes, no need to buy at those convenient shops, head to brinchang town's Guardian, way more choices and selections despite it's in such a small town.
- went from KL using simpang pulai, it was like extra 50km drive after tapah exit! next time must try tapah. simpang pulai road was a smooth ride though, both up and down, road condition is free of holes about 80% of the journey. actually it's more like 95% free of holes from tol to junction before kg raja.
food hunt(?!?):
- didn't manage to find the mamak with strawberry roti canai! i think i read it was in TR, but couldn't find it. not all mamak that make roti will have roti strawberry.
- i went to CH with family when i was younger (15+ years ago), i remember a small hawker stall (like those hawker stalls rows in TR), there was one indian stall that make strawberry milk shake with farm fresh milk (not those goodday or the likes, really fresh from the farm). i wasn't sure where exactly it was, and didn't hunt for it due to lack of time. anyone know such stall still exist and where? really wanted to try it again as i remembered it was super nice!
