..... as far as i understand it. UT we buy the expertise of the fund managers, not the fund value per-se. We are buying the brains of the managers to minimize the downtrend when market is spiralling down, and make profit when market it upbeat.

Stocks... i think that applies if you are trading, not investing

PMB Syariah Aggressive Fund is good for the said time. Good time to buy now also since the NAV has just been adjusted after SAF financial year ended.

Foolish Summary

Although I have to admit that there are fund managers in the market who have managed to consistently outperform the market, think long-term, and be true contrarians, they are far from the norm and few in numbers. That’s why we have to understand that the best fund manager to manage our money is perhaps, always ourselves.

Confessions Of A Hedge Fund Manager
......Something in the air

I was recently invited to a private seminar in Singapore at which an old acquaintance, hedge fund manager, Lars Kroijer, was the guest speaker. The audience was primarily made up of hedge fund managers.
.........Lars’ seminar was going swimmingly until he dropped the bombshell of the afternoon. He told the audience that most investors, including professional money managers, cannot beat the market.

i thought NAV has no impact on fund performance?

i mean buying a fund with very high NAV or very low NAV shouldn't matter right? as long as their ROI in % is good
*
Are you sure it does not matter ??
Make more or make less does not matter?,
when you are taking the same risk laying the same capital?

Eg Kenanga Growth Fund,

I gave RM10,000 to 2 persons to invest in KGF.

A bought on 28.7.2015 at RM1.0509, (ignore fee) so he got 9515.65 units

B bought 1 week later on 3.8.2015 at RM1.0619, he got only 9417.08 units.

A got extra 98.57 units and this is worth RM104.67 now.
later if the price goes up to RM1.50,
A would have extra profit RM147.85

That is only for RM10k , 1 transaction

What if you do that for RM100k,
and 10 transactions ,

how much difference A have more than B?
RM147.85 x 100 = RM14,785.50!

Even if the price drops, A would always win over B ,
who says never mind buy at higher price also okay.

Am I inviting the wrath of many investment sifus here?? Not my intention..

those who opt to buy low NAV funds just because they think it has reach the "bottom" shouldn't invest in UT at all  laugh.gif

I did that, so should i sell all my UT now? Still got profit 7.5% now

what i am trying to say is when choosing a fund to invest, don't look at NAV

some ppl compare, Fund A now NAV = 0.5. Fund B now NAV = 1.0

give a summary that Fund A undervalue now, must buy. Fund B overvalue, don't buy

that is kinda stupid

Dont think the fler meant that way. He was recommending what he thinks a good shariah compliant fund. And since the fund are having adjusted nav due to distribution, it would be a good time to buy as well.

Not saying "oh this fund good, nav is very low. Buy buy buy. If no buy, very rugi."

even if Fund A is 0.5 2 months ago, now 0.3 ALSO doesn't mean that it is now good to buy!!!

u read his post again...

"NAV adjusted...after distribution...good time to buy..."

doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

Give u a simple real life example...

I own 100% of Najip Songlap Sdn Bhd. My capital is RM80m

U wanna invest RM20m in Najip Songlap Sdn Bhd, making the capital increase to RM100m

(a) Today the company give me dividend of RM8m, but I chose to reinvest in the company, i.e. the company issues new share capital to me, sorta like a Bonus Issue. So, I will still have RM80m worth of shares in the company
U invest RM20m, u will own 20% (RM20m / RM100m) of the company

(b) No dividend
U invest RM20m, u will own 20% (RM20m / RM100m) of the company

yes,.....if YOU cannot take the heat...stay away from the kitchen.

Any investment carries with it an element of risks. Therefore, prior to making any investment, prospective investors should consider the following risk factors:

Market Risk

Any purchase of securities will involve an element of risks. As unit trust funds principally invest in listed stocks, it may be prone to losses as a result of global, regional or national economic conditions, governmental policies or political developments. Market uncertainties and fluctuations in the market caused by these uncertainties will affect the net asset value (NAV) of unit trusts which may fall or rise, thus causing the income generated by the fund to fluctuate from funds with higher risk, higher returns to funds with lower risk, lower returns.

and many more risk factors....
