xinanxxx: The new upmodel of D40X might eat for 3K dude...

My advise based on my experience... PLEASE dont go waste your money on a new lens. I know its very HOT feeling once you get the DSLR but take it from me, shoot with your kit lens 1st. After a couple of months ONLY then do a review on all your shots then decide what you want. Its easier on the wallet and on you.

On a side note there is no 3rd party lens available as yet WITH AFS. U can get the other lenses but you have to manually focus and shot. Hope this helps..

There are Sigma HSM lens for D40 but i agree on ur advise

thanks man for the advise and info. reason i choose d40 because i have play with my friend minolta dynax 5d for quite sometime...and i see d40 got similar feature like bigger screen and no led status.but the lens support drawback..hurmm..i might consider buying canon 350d..coz im in to potrait snap and my friend suggest to buy lens with big aperture like f1.8...but the dark side force quite strong ehehe...is d50 still available in the market?

You can get 2nd hand ones but you might go for the Canon 350D, not too sure if the offer is still on to get it at RM2.6k with a telephoto lens as well. Then you can add on about RM300+ to get a 50mm F1.8 lens to take your portrait shots

if u are insists of AF and can't afford D80, then try to get 2nd hand D50 and D70, but of course u need to wait since a lot of ppl want to grab too.

I'm using D40 and 50mm f1.8 with manual focus and still can get a good potrait

Before u can buy d lens.. u must know which lens u want.. u want to photograph potrait.. landscapes etc.. it is subjective.. no point recommending unless u know wat u want..

juz by d d40 for know.. and buy lens later wen u know ur style of photography

thanks all for the reply...really appreciate it.i maybe go for nikon.my priority is d50..if cannot find one go for d40...have 50mm f1.8 and done i think portrait still ok by manual focus..no need hurry to snap portrait, not like event pics..must have af to fast capture..rite?

If you have 3k budget, get D40 and get the 55-200mm lens.. midrange-telephoto.

Yeah!! 16 ppl already. All use D40 now, later will change to D80 then D200 after that D2x

jimmythw: If given a choice I would jump straight to the D200 or D2X hehehehe

i think you meant to say no "cheap" 3rd party lens available to aufocus on D40. i am sure you can autofocus with sigma HSM lenses (which is expensive)
