well.. don't judge the cam on how many pixel it has..
you can do wonders with "only" 6MP
*
yea, i agree with ajay.. with 10mp, the pics will be even bigger in size.. then you'll have to get more memory cards.. actually, if you a beginer get a d80.. he/she will take even more time to learn to use to camera, coz it will be a much more complicated camera compared to d40.

madstone : never compare a slr camera to a p'n's camera, its a whole different thing.. think wisely before making a comment on a camera, coz.. your advices may lead people to the wrong road.

hi

i have budget around 3k..and if i buy d40 have 800 to buy accessories..
can this much money afford to buy other lens..coz d40 only can attach afs lens...how much that type of lens..they have 3rd party one?

If you have 3k budget, get D40 and get the 55-200mm lens.. midrange-telephoto.

*
why dont you save up more and get the 18-200mm vr. after you buy this lens, can use for very very very long time.. coz its a very all rounder lens.

Just got my 18-200mm VR from a merchant in Lowyat.net (Vladimir). Match it with my D40 feel so good, not so heavy anyway.

And the best thing is, I got MADE IN JAPAN version.

WOW great.
*
wow.. nice bro, how much did you get it for?

Hey everyone, im writting this especially for beginers who wants to start DSLR photography.. I personally owned a D40 before and now im using a 350D. I have to say 350D win hands down, im suggesting not to go for the D40 unless you already have nikon gears or you're a die-hard nikon fan.

Firstly, 350D has the BG while D40 doesnt.. both 350D and D40 have tiny bodies.. which is not suitable for people with big hands, but with the BG.. it solves the problem, grabbing it with your full hand and having a vertical grip is a big advantage.

And yeah, megapixels dont really matter unless you're printing a billboard. Another advantage of 350D over D40 is the focus points.. D40 only has 3 focus points, while the 350D has 7 focus points, focus points are very important while shooting potraits.

350D is one of the fastest AF in the entry level DSLR range. But if you're planing to do alot of indoor photography, Nikon would be your choice.. Nikon has better flash systems.

The things that i typed here may not be 100% true, please correct me if im wrong.

wow... hero bashing d40 in d40 thread...

but anyway isn't the d40 differently priced than the 350d anyway...  whistling.gif
*
sorry if you got me wrong, my objective is not to bash D40/D40x.. just sharing my experience, if you dont like.. then dont read, simple as that right?

Yes, the 350D is more expensive than the D40, but its the same price as D40x i believe.

Cheers smile.gif

1st : Both 350D and D40 have tiny bodies, u are right but the grip in D40 is much more better than 350D unless u really want a BG to help u in portrait orientation, then i said 350D win. Holding a 350D whole day without BG will cramp ur hand but not D40.

2nd : 7 focus points vs 3 focus points, i dunno others but for me 3 focus points are enough since i'll recompose anyway. changing focus point is quite time consuming for me if u want to shoot a moment fast, unless there is a camera with touch pad to move the focus point freely or at least something like Sony A100, which the focus point can be change diagonally.

3rd : Agree on Nikon have better flash system but Canon is better for high ISO performance, so depends on what kind of indoor photography u want.
*
re : 2nd :

you can change the settings in your camera to control the focus points using the up-down-left-right button or the scroll dial. i feel using the buttons are much faster, yes.. 350D also can change diagonally.. and your focus point is at the far end and you wanna change it back to the middle, just press the middle button.

Imagine you're shooting a fashion show, you think models gonna wait for you to recompose? tongue.gif

cheers.

Monopod is extremly expensive , Hope that there's a cheap version which is affordable yet quality is great.  sad.gif
My hands tremble alots aswell when focal length at 300mm G type with D80.  sweat.gif *I wonder how can/to handle D200 with battery grip + 70-300mm lens.  blush.gif  laugh.gif
*
its not all bad to invest in a expensive tripod or monopod.. imagine you already spend thousands of rm on your cam, and you're gonna trust a cheap 50rm tripod? i'd rather not. this is what a pro photog told me last time thumbup.gif .

anyway, if you looking for cheap monopod... i saw some people using those profotto or goldfotto monopods, should be able to handle a d80+bg+18-135 hmm.gif

noob question here... which length do i need to see for macro lenses for my d40x?? blush.gif
*
one of the most budget macro lens is the tamron 70-300 macro.. you can use the macro function at 180-300mm. it gives a 1:2 macro magnification.

or if you got cash saved up for a real macro lens, go for the tamron SP90.. one of the best macro lens out there.. 1:1 magnification.
