QUOTE(goldfries @ Jan 17 2007, 07:54 PM) i saw at Key Color the other day RM 2,350 1. D40 + kit lens 2. screen protector 3. Travel bag + Nikon bag 4. 1GB SD 5. Tripod ehhh. yeah i think that's it. I bought mine from Shong Lee at 1 Utama, same stuff but the price was RM2400 with an additional UV filter. Quite happy with the pictures, can get nicer photos from my previous Canon S3.

Anyone can recommend a good telezoom AFS lens for the D40? Maybe one in the 300mm range? I just bought my D40 a month back and I've been loving it!

QUOTE(harrychoo @ Mar 15 2007, 10:53 AM) Hey, i tot u praise Canon in my thread btw, i training manual focusing with 50mm now.. To be honest I like to use manual focus sometimes especially when trying to take shots to show the DoF because sometimes its hard to just use auto focus to focus on certain areas of the picture. My dad had an old 90-300mm lens so I was using manual focus on that. How much did you get your 50mm lens for?

QUOTE(harrychoo @ Mar 15 2007, 11:30 AM) There is some nice senior here borrow me fro training purpose, if i feel i can handle it right, i will purchase it. The new price for it is around RM380. I found it not really hard to manual focusing even during night since it is not a zoom lens. but lol, isn't it hard to focus on tha 90-300mm? Yes extremely difficulty plus the lens is also heavy so balancing it and manually focusing while trying to keep still is a skill in itself. Started to do a bit more weights in the gym so I can be more still with the camera RM380, I got that price from some shops but I am still looking around for a cheaper shop, have yet to try out Boeing in Sungai Wang but I might head over there this weekend.

QUOTE(Evirober @ Mar 16 2007, 03:20 PM) Mavik: your avatar pic looks like camera jatuh longkang !! hehehehe Nice pics bro.. keep it up !! Yup wanted to take shots from a totally different angle, one that no one would normally try to take. Added on March 19, 2007, 3:02 pmQUOTE(Evirober @ Mar 17 2007, 01:30 AM) which 1 are you referring to ??? Price quote taken from Master Shinchan^^ AF-S 105mm f/2.8 VR rm2.6k AF-S 18-200mm VR rm2.9k AF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 rm4.6k AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8 VR rm5.8k AF-S 70-300mm VR rm1.9k AF-S 12-24mm F4 rm3.6k Sigh if only I printed out money. Would love to get the AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8 VR lens. Although I read that a Nikkor 70-200mm f4 VR lens might be out for sale at about USD$250. Made in China if I am not wrong. Yeah man, always take the time to learn with kit lens. I am a little fortunate because my dad has some zoom lens but as mentioned, I have to manually focus it

QUOTE(xinanxxx @ Mar 22 2007, 06:01 PM) thanks man for the advise and info. reason i choose d40 because i have play with my friend minolta dynax 5d for quite sometime...and i see d40 got similar feature like bigger screen and no led status.but the lens support drawback..hurmm..i might consider buying canon 350d..coz im in to potrait snap and my friend suggest to buy lens with big aperture like f1.8...but the dark side force quite strong ehehe...is d50 still available in the market? You can get 2nd hand ones but you might go for the Canon 350D, not too sure if the offer is still on to get it at RM2.6k with a telephoto lens as well. Then you can add on about RM300+ to get a 50mm F1.8 lens to take your portrait shots

QUOTE(xyzpace @ Mar 29 2007, 09:44 AM) hi sifus, yesterday went to mid valley, fotokem is having promotion at lower ground. d40 - Rm2388 1g sd card tripod extra battery d50 back pack bag 3 years warranty eos 400d - Rm3529 1g cf card x2 tripod bag 55-200 lens 3 years warranty 400d seems better deal. can help me to decide? I think the 400D sounds like a good investment if you have the budget. Usually people like me who went for the D40 only got it because I couldn't afford anything more than RM2.6k. If you can afford the 400D why not? Don't have to worry about not enough megapixel, canon lenses are slightly cheaper to some Nikon lenses and you don't have to worry about getting AF-S lens only.

QUOTE(vpam5221 @ Apr 2 2007, 09:08 AM) does it means that, the results would be the same if i get a flash and 55-200 dx lens instead of a 55-200VR??? how about for out door shot....... how efecitive is the VR for dayligth, 200mm zoom??? compared to no VR. for my budgeting purpose. non vr lens + a flash ( sb-400 ) still cheaper than getting a full on VR lens It depends on where you are shooting as well. Because since you mentioned indoor, I guess low light will be a problem for you. Remember when you zoom in closer, your F-stop value increases thus reducing your aperture size. You need to compensate it with low shutter speed, high ISO and also a flash. The VR would definitely help a lot in those conditions.

QUOTE(boonhoong @ Apr 3 2007, 03:38 PM) f20 should give us almost infinite focus, but it would most definite need a tripod as well. I guess the trick is to just go with as small an aperture as possible without going below the 1/60 sec shutter speed when going handheld. I find that at 1/30 sec, a couple of my shots still come out insufficiently sharp Also depends on how much zoom you would use when taking shots with your hand. The rule is that how much zoom you use, the shutter speed should go less than the reciprocal of it. Example, with 50mm lens, the shutter speed shouldn't drop below 1/50.

QUOTE(jeffbong @ Apr 23 2007, 02:12 AM) Aiyah bro, lazy wanna change lens. One len fits all. Some more I walk walk in Komtar and see Vladimir(to check it out his store only) and tested 18-200mm VR. Fell in love in one glance, after that he say show me Made In Japan at the lens and told me this is limited edition in Msia. So call my frens in KL and they say mostly 18-200 is Thai made and buy it if Made in Japan. So i bought lor. Bought it at 2.6k. Thailand made is cheaper by RM50-100. Really lazy wanna change lens. I got 50mm f/1.8. Very seldom use also. I think if i got 55-200VR, also seldom use since 18-55 is very wide enough. And get VR if possible for every Nikon lens. If no VR, u will die standing holding the heavy lens n steady at 200mm. Hahahaha GUESS WHAT, MY LENS IS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN MY BODY. HAHAHAHAHAHA Isn't that quite the norm most of the time? Especially in the case of the D40 Congrats on your new baby, do show us a couple of photos with your new lens.

QUOTE(aichiban @ May 3 2007, 03:35 PM) i dun rekomen MF on such a focal length what u see clear on the LCD might not be clear on the monitor... yes, get from vladimir, he is my supplier eventhough im thousands of mile away from Penang. Im from KL too, not Penang Yup you are right on that. I also have a 70-300mm and a 50mm manual focus lens with my D40. Only reason is that I recycled them from my dad's old nikon SLR so its manual focus for me. Especially with the 50mm, its not easy to do fast focusing. Have to really take my time to manually adjust it.

QUOTE(xandman @ May 15 2007, 06:42 PM) standard speed... no way u can get high speed for rm80...hahahaha But in some of their quotes there was no mention of the price of the card. They just state that with RM2200, they get the camera + 2Gb card. The last time when I bought my D40, the quote was RM2200 as well but I got the 1Gb high speed SD card.
