Purchased Aquaphor Crystal Eco two weeks ago from Zheilwane at his shop.

A very friendly guy who is willing spare some time to serve and explain to me in very details although he is busy that time. He did not even try to hard sell his product but instead he just let me see and compare a few different filters and specifications and then let me to judge and decide by myself which is better.

So far i have been drinking for 2 weeks, very satisfied with this Crystal Eco. No metal taste at all. That's my main priority not to taste that metal feel taste. Somemore, its easier to drink as in not so difficult to swallow the water before compared to my previous normal filter.

A recommended water filter with affordable price. thumbup.gif

Thanks smile.gif I really suggest people who are still using basic filters to upgrade their water filters as you dont know what you are drinking. For your case you can still taste the metal smell after your basic filter, hence making you upgrade your filter to aquaphor. However, there are some contaminants that we cant see or smell and we are still drinking it without knowing it until 5 or 10 or 15 years down the road only we will see the side effects.

Malaysia water is so dirty and we should really take good care of our health and the first thing to start is to drink clean water from a good water filter.

Recent water pollution news in malaysia :

Malaysia's Sungai Buah River has become polluted due to a toxic solvent that has been dumped from an unknown source on its banks, off the Elite Highway

Hi Guys, I'm looking for a outdoor water filter, there are a few brands in my mind, 3M AP 902, Perfect Steel, Waterco & GE.

Which 1 is easier to maintain and cost effective? possible looking for 1 with Auto backwash if possible.

Any reason you are looking for alkaline water? TO be neutral, i suggest you google on pros and cons on alkaline water before purchasing. 1 think is for sure, the machine is so small, it has limited space to install filters, hence most alkaline machine will only provide 1 cartridge filter. Checked your link, it seems that the filter has granular carbon, carbon block and membrane which is good but all 3 media in 1 cartridge = every media is very little in quantity and contaminant reduction rate wont be high.

Unless u have some medical reason and wanna give alkaline water a try, if not i wont recommend alkaline water. As mentioned, i got eczema and i tried alkaline water for 6 months but no sign of improvement

In that case, just get any filter that has minimum NSF 42 & NSF 53 certification, at least you drink without boiling from a filter certified by NSF.

To check NSF certification, click here:
http://info.nsf.org/Certified/DWTU/

By the way, Panasonic TK-AS45 didn't advertise NSF certification at all, So I guess it's not certified.

Here is my review,
The filter is using single cartridge design and has all these in just one cartridge
"Non-woven Fabric, Granular Activated Carbon, Ceramic, Powdered Activated Carbon,Hollow Fiber Membrane"

1) Active charcoal carbon filters are most effective at removing chlorine, sediment, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), taste and odor from water.

Carbon generally has 3 types, Granular Carbon, Powdered Carbon and Carbon Block
In general, carbon block filters are more effective at removing a larger number of contaminants, based upon the increased surface area of carbon
Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_filtering

The length of time in which the contaminant is in contact with the activated carbon filter also influences the adsorption process – the longer the length of contact, the greater the number of contaminants that will be removed

Source : http://www.waterprofessionals.com/learning...carbon-filters/

Review : Since the filter is using Granular and Powdered Carbon only (not Carbon Block) and very little amount of carbon in the cartridge (total 5 different filter media used in just one small cartridge), hence wont be very effective in removing higher percentage of contaminants as the duration in contact with carbon is too short

We cannot rely 100% on NSF only, a basic filter like Culligan costing RM 300+- already can satisfy NSF standard 42 and 53 but having NSF is a good start.

Standard 42 :
SF/ANSI 42 establishes the minimum requirements for the certification of POU/POE filtration systems designed to reduce specific aesthetic or non-health-related contaminants (chlorine, taste, odor and particulates)

Standard 53 :
This standard establishes the minimum requirements for the certification of POU/POE filtration systems designed to reduce specific health-related contaminants, such as Cryptosporidium, lead, volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) and asbestos

Souce : https://www.nsf.org/newsroom_pdf/water_42_53_insert.pdf

So, NSF standards only sets the minimum requirements, that is why a basic carbon block system like culligan can already pass NSF. Compare the info in wikipedia and also the standards 42 and 53 as given above, it explains that carbon filter is capable of filtering contaminants as per the NSF standards.
There are still many things not covered by these two standards such as BACTERIA, that is why we cannot solely rely on NSF only but having NSF is a good start.

"Active charcoal carbon filters are most effective at removing chlorine, sediment, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), taste and odor from water."
source : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_filtering

Activated carbon itself appears in the EPA list as a preferred treatment only for mercury, but carbon block filters can also be engineered to remove lead and asbestos

Need a water dispenser. Any recommendation? Preferably with hot and cold function.
Northern region.

Considered Coway, but its RO water.
How about Cuckoo ? Mild-Alkaline water.
Does Aquaphor has a dispenser? As the website is down, couldn't get much information.
