Ah, cool, Macross Collector's thread... rclxms.gif

I'm planning to start collecting Yamato Macross models... Saw some today at a specialty toy shop, am very impressed with the detail... The only thing that scares me is the price... shocking.gif

I'm thinking of getting the VJ-11B first... or the YF-19 with Fold Booster & Fastpack... hmm.gif

Not really a macross collector.....
But start to gain interest on it due to its transformable aircraft.....

By the way, any good kits for a beginner?

Anyone know where to find this?

I've seen some Hi quality Macross Masterpieces..selling for 400-700.. Too expensive to collect.

Hahaha......
But compared with HG gundam, you can buy 20 of them......
And I believe those will be just as tall MG gundam size, rite?

Oops, put aside gundam here.......
Anyway, still very nice with macross kits, just that is a bit expensive.......

May be I will just go look for die-cast jet mode macross set if still available in the market.......

Its not exacly a Macross movie, its gonna be from the US based Robotech franchise which is a rojak of several "sagas"... Macross included.

Head on over to http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/517012, there seems to be another active discussion in the anime section

I am also putting in an order for Yamato's SV51, hope to get it soon. The 1/5000 SDF-1 from Wave should be arriving anyday now. I'll post pics of that too.

@ sonic_cd, your yf-21 is what scale... 1/72? How does this compare in scale to the 1/60 yf19. I ask this because I hear that Yamato is releasing another yf21 in the 1/60 scale... dunno if I should wait for this.

well imo , it boils down to the details on the model itself and the price well , i think waiting for the 1/60 would be a good move though

ps: on my the 21 you see ot loks fine but if you look closer, you can see the paint peeling (!) , the joints for the hand broken, leg broken etc ....

After being spoilt on 1/48 and 1/60 scale how to go back to 1/144.... but the price is much nicer than Yamato.

For 1/48 VF-1S I am considering 2 versions Roy Focker version in black box or Hikaru Ichijo version in orange/red box? Price is different.... the Hikaru version being the more expensive one by a large margin. I have read somwhere that each version depending on the moulds would have improvements .... but I am not sure. The design of the valkyries look the same to me.

Added 15 mins later, I foind the differences:

DYRL VF-1S Roy Focker

The second release of the 1/48 line. This is the best representation of the VF-1S in my opinion. The head of particular interest, as the body is identical to the VF-1A Hikaru with the exception of the colour scheme. It is a very nicely designed head unit with two turrets each supporting twin RÖV-20 lasers. This head is way better than the blocky representations by Bandai. Main complaints from the public is the vertical split that runs smack bang down the middle of the "face." Minor gripe. It has been released twice for a total of 3 production runs. The last two production runs are the best, as they have the improvements. The first edition had a crooked skull insignia on the left rear tailfin, which was fixed on the 2nd release, but reappeared on some 3rd release VF-1S Fockers. The QC on the subsequent releases are otherwise excellent and on par with the Low Viz or Maximilian Jenius VF-1A.

DYRL VF-1S Hikaru

The most current VF-1S to date. Simply a Roy VF-1S with red accents instead of yellow. The first canon and only DYRL? VF-1 to have a rubber pilot.

QC is only a bit shoddy on this one. There are sometimes a little overspray on the paintjobs and the airbrake is generally loose. Joint mobility is otherwise fine.

hope they design they yf-21 nicely this time round , cause it has a tendency to flip over when in battroid mode .. due to the top being heavy

Woah SV-51 Nora Ver is soo nice, but my budget tells me that I can only get one... so which one to get?

1/60 YF-21 is looking good, that one will be in next year's budget.

THe 25th aniversary one I thin can skip...

i will wait for YF-21 and will buy SV-51 next month. I prefer the Black color scheme instead of Nora ver.

Black and Grey always looks more stealthy than colored jets. smile.gif

scaling n fitting within the yamato box laugh.gif
specifically only the YF-19, VF-0S, VF-0A and SV-51 when scaled to 1/60 nearly equals to the 1/48 VF-1x series and retains PERFECT transformation.

whereas the 1/60 VF-1x are smaller and does not do PERFECT transformation. (my buddy had a cannon fodder version, u have to remove the legs to get to battaroid) and the 1/60 has some die-cast.

so it's up to ur liking biggrin.gif
the max n mirija are cool.... along with the extra parts! thumbup.gif
too bad my budget got blown out of the water by the SV-51 cry.gif

The one I bought is a completed model and has die cast parts.... But there are several 1/5000 and 1/8000 scale model kits (plastic models) going for cheap. Search ebay US/HK, sure can find.

I dun buy from local shop, so far all my Macross come from overseas thru Ebay, yahoo auction or online shops. I usually shop around for very long time (usually a couple of months) till I find a good deal, then after consulting my bank account only I buy.

Can, just tell me what u need and I'll keep an eye out for it. However I think I have pretty musch used up my Macross budget for this year. My plan for the rest of the year is to get a few Star wars and Star Trek kits that I want to get this year before the price increase even further as they are starting to die out and the price starting to go up liow.

As an owner of 1/48... I say the engineering and quality are only.. so so.. A masterpiece transformer Starscream/Skywarp has much better thoughtout transformation. The disappointment to me.. is the transformation from Gerwalk to robot mode...

hmm... i've yet to compare it with starscream. have to wait until i get the starscream alt which i think is coming in soon. If not mistaken kawamori did work on the masterpiece series as well. not to mention other G1 TF. it would be good to compare both his works side by side. smile.gif

Introducing the VF-0A with Ghost Booster Set!! I already have the standard VF-0S, so I opted to get the 0A this time round... plus I can swap the Ghost Booster between the 0S and 0A. The box is rather hefty and its also about 2 inches thicker compared to the standared Yamato 1/48 or 1/60 boxes, since it houses the standard VF-0A as well the QF-2200D-B Ghost Booster.

I am now considering the Max and Milia reissue, but I don't think I can raise the funds for that since I am committed to get the SV-51 oledi.

And on the topic of quality, I think the Yamato quality is slightly better than the MP-03/06 from Takara both plastic material and also build wise. I feel that Yamato is more sturdy... just feels better in your hands.... the MP-03/06 is really light and "plasticky" in comparison. But in reference to the transformation , the crown goes to MP03/06. The gripe I have with the Yamato transformation is how fiddly the legs are as you transfrom from gerwalk to battroid, but when locked into position below the nose cone its fine. Then the process of manouvering the hands in Gerwoalk mode is also rather fiddly. But then you must consider that the MP-03/06 does not need to worry about the gerwalk mode. Both are good stuff though.

If I recall correctly, there are tabs at the foot/booster where the hands are supposed to "snap" into and so they can stay in place. Its been sometime since I played with them, but I am pretty sure there is a catch/tab to secure the hands.

Its a matter of setting goals...... if u put it into perspective a Yamato VF0/1 is not that expensive in the grand scheme of things... a weekend out with the boys or that favorite someone could cost half to a third of the toy... so sacrifice 3 nights out and u have ur toy!! I assume the toy to be in the region of RM400-500. A night out could cost u RM150++.....

actually...if u are willing to shop online and scan ebay, you can get quite good deals

most online places give preorder discounts, and there are always ppl having garage sales, or in need of cash, so they offload thier toys

on macross world...i saw VF-1A's for sale for as low as RM330...even after u add postage..its worth it

just in case anyone has the following..im willing to buy off you smile.gif

- Super strike parts for Vf-1
- Armour parts for Vf-1

Seems like there are people interested/thinking/on the fence to buy a Yamato. I can try to organise a bulk where we share all the costs involved. I'll do this as a strictly non-profit. Those interested please PM me with what u wnat and the best price you can get it outside. We should only go ahead if we can get significant cost savings.

@razgriz, the VF0S is indeed a nice piece of kit, I love mine .... sans the ghost booster. I bot the first batch that came without it...... Can see it a few pages back.

1/48 VF-1S DYRL Roy is on my wanted list. Let me know if you can get them. Hopefully it's not with the crooked tailfins.
probably the 3rd reissue or more.

Hmm.... about Roy DYRL reissue, there seemed to be no news coming from MW and also from my local toyshop.
wonder if it's real or just .... hmm.gif

In order not to pollute this thread, lets do the bulk via PM, is there is good feedback maybe I open a "want to bulk" thread in the Bulk Orders section. Remember to send me a PM of what u want and the best price u can find.... after shipping and tax. This is very important so that I can find the best deal for us.

As for myself I want to get the VF1S Roy, VF1A Hikaru and VF1A Max all in 1/48 scale...the black box one!! and also the VF1A kakizaki green box. On the wish list is the VF1J Super Max and Miria versions. Targeting November/December.

To all interested pls send me a PM

Yeah, the timeline of Macross Frontier is supposed to be after the events of Macross 2 and Macross 7, so the mecha will definitely be futuristic...

Yeah, the blond haired babe in the first pic is the new idol singer... Cheryl Nome...

Yeah, the timeline of Macross Frontier is supposed to be after the events of Macross 2 and Macross 7, so the mecha will definitely be futuristic...

Yeah, the blond haired babe in the first pic is the new idol singer... Cheryl Nome...

Oh ya hor... Since Macross 2 was not produced by the original production studio, Studio Nue, they considered it as a parallel universe... I stand corrected, thanks, sonic! notworthy.gif

Well, it's directed by Shoji Kawamori, so dun worry, he won't make the characters belt a rock tune out every bloody episode... laugh.gif

Oh, and according to the scanned pics, the main protagonist is not holding an electric guitar, so I guess we're safe... for now... sweat.gif

maybe because if both vfs exist in real world, the vf0s would be bigger than vf1s? hence the difference in scale?

much like an MG 1/100 Gundam Mk II is bigger than an MG 1/100 F-91 gundam...

Can anyone clarify?

depends, coz if u want the bandai 1/55 scale is quite expensive. If u want those that are below rm 100, then like jaguar sez, ebay or sg yahoo auction is ur best bet.

off the top of my head.... the VF0 were the first prototype transformable fighters and so they were still using hydrocarbon based engines and so these tended to be larger and hence the larger fighter. The VF1 then moved on to the nuclear fueled engines which were smaller. With the smaller engine they managed to miniaturise the fighter as well. Thays y there is a diff in the actualy size of the fighters. But when Yamato built the toys, VF0 at 1/60 scale and VF1 at 1/48 scale resulted in a toy that is the same size. I suspect that Yamato would have reused the larger molds for the toys.

I heard some places got it also. I never preordered coz although the give a very attractive price, their shipping is a killer from those people.

Now looking for other sources.

As for the 1/60 VF1s.... don't waste your moneylah, I was almost "conned" into buying one and then found out that is was a compromise design. I have stuck with Yamato's VF0/1s eversince. More expensive but its is true to the anime. I'd fall of my seat if Roy had to take of his Valkyrie's legs to transform between modes...

Aik.... who said YF21 not nice?

I am so getting this one.... But Yamato already annouve they will be issuing this long time ago. Hopefully this new 1/60 from Yamato will be better than the previous release..... wait for some reviews and then we will know for sure.

@62jaguar... nice haul. Take some pics of the Nora figthing with the VF0lah.... My dream is to complete the VF0A/s and SV-51 Ivanov and Nora so they can do battle in my display cabinet rclxms.gif

if not mistaken...according to mahq.net, it was in 1994...
the delay was more probably due to the license issue, some confusion about the macross/robotech holder.

Those are killing me alone.

Then CMS and Aoshima Mospeada figures and legioss and thread.

Yamato will be slow be eventually. Soon have to cut down on a few lines.

The 3 1/48 vf1A is because of there are 3 other pilots in the Skull Team under Roy Focker and then under Hikaru. So I just wanted to get the complete Skull team.. dats all.

I didn't like the look of the 25th ani version, as there is no real basis for them in the anime, so I'll skip them.

Guys, I wanted one too though I am confused by the scale and the perfect transform.

What is what?

What is the common scale for Macross? Those Yamato 1/48 or 1/60?

What is the difference between those perfect transform and those that doesn't?

I believe there is only one 1/48 scale body type by Yamato the VF-1A/J/S. Maybe their first Macross designed by CAD. All subsequent models.. are 1/60 size.. Perfect transformation would mean that the toy is actually in one piece between transformation... in the 1/48 case ... a dodgy die cast bar holding the legs to the rest of the body for the gerwalk/plane to humanoid mode...

Report, the model is really very detailed with a lot of small thin spiny antennae sticking out here and there making it a rather fiddly toy. Some plastic parts are really thin e.g. the part that holds the arms to the body... I almost broke a few pieces off during the transformation process. Luckily nothing was broken. I like it, but it could have been a little bigger....

how much like that? around RM 2k i suppose.

the baddies craft reminds me of the F18 Hornet a little. Like all of them though.

Clearly looking at the sze of the figure and the sze of the cockpit, the VF-0S is a massive machine

On one hand you can get teacher and student sparring...

On the other hand you can pair the lovers together...

Either way you won't go wrong. But I think since u got SV-51 Ivanov, then get the VF0S, afterall Nora is from the same mold as the Ivanov. thumbup.gif

i think better go for VF-OS too. its very sturdy in all mode not like SV-51. but my VF-OA horn already patah coz its too long and i give too much pressure when i transform it. now i'm looking forward to complete generation 1. i will go to macross convention to get the nice t-shirt. hope they sell cheap cheap valkyrie there too.

I heard that there will be a Macross Idol.... Lynn Minmay performing at the 25th aniversary..... can anyone confirm? I will try to attend, see any goodies to pick up.....

Macross Zero...4 leaf clover.....

ps- even thought the leg hinges are all die cast, they are still very fiddly during the transformation process. But once you clip it into the nose cone, its ok.

Wah didn't realise alot of Macross collectors here. Hi hi. I'm a valkaholic and I have too many Yamatos....no place to display. laugh.gif

Anyway I think most of you guys heard about the Macross 25th Anniversary Convention next weekend right? Please come! And whoever wanna contribute 1 or 2 of your toys you are welcome to bring. I think for now we have the whole range for the exibition including some extras to display in 3 modes. But last I heard we missing a Low Viz V2, Angel Bird, and a Kakizaki valk for the exibition. Anyone wanna pinjam? laugh.gif

Details in case you guys dunno.

1/60 scale although cheaper means a smaller figure. I guess for those who want a consistant scale in their collection will rejoice so that can match up with the Yamato VF0s and some of the older Bandai or Yamato toys. As for myself I can't seem to see the attraction in a smaller toy that except for Yamato wanting to increase its revenue... after satiating the market for 1/48 sales, now they are going for 1/60 sales.

But then I am all for more affordable toys so that everyone from any income bracket can enjoy more.

Thankfully, I have almost completed my 1/48 VF1s, there are 3 more that I wanna get, funds willing, by Feb/Mar'08.... after that wait for YF21 icon_idea.gif I am not a completist by any means, but these figures are just so nice... beh tahanlah.

Now a thought.... how about the 1/48 or 1/60 scale Monster...... now that would be really awesome. Would be double the size of this one!!!

got it from a seller from yahoo auction sg..
unfortunately, a lot of seller there wouldn't want to ship out outside of spore as it would be a lot of hassle..and the shipping cost would be a killer..
