U can either get package tour by walk-in to any tour agents in BKK (The most I heard ~! Khao San road)

Otherwise. just tapao any taxi outside your hotel for a day trip there. They will drive you there, wait for you & asking your permission to aloow him stopping at all those Gem stores & etc to collect petrol vouchers. & also bringing you to Elephant show, snake farm & etc...well u name it they will bring you lah...

The last I got in 2005 for 1 day trip was THB800 or RM80 to & fro BKK..excluding sampan fare ~ THB1000/boat. !!

if by bus where to take?
if by tour where to find one?
and
how to go back from there?

If you meant the floating market, don't bother going there. 30 years ago I would recommend but today nope. It is more for western tourist. Everything there is so fake!
Better you use that money to see the Tiger Monastery or Siam Niramit or Dusit Palace

On floating markets... Theres a lot around BKK and just outside. Most of them are crap now and very commercialized. But there are some that are very very nice and worth the while to visit. Though they are only to be found outside of BKK and will take a couple hours to get to by car.

About RM320 for return ticket. for the 2 days journey!!

Sos: http://www.seat61.com/Thailand.htm#Singapore

Might well hunt for AA promo ticket. Sometime u can get <RM200 return ticket using AA.. smile.gif & no need to waste 4 days of traveling time.

is it even safe at all though? so scary leh. although i remember some athletes doing it during the riots way back.

i mean you are driving through conflict areas. the reasons i see to take bus....
1. trying to save rm200 and time is of no issue.
2. want the thrill of driving through the most dangerous parts of thailand.
3. trying to smuggle prohibited goods into thailand or malaysia.

Pretty safe-lah..The closest point to the conflict area is Hatyai. Otherwise, the train bypass the 3 restless Southern states of Narathiwat, Yala & Pattani. Songkla where Hatyai is the biz hub, not really affected except 1 occasion few yrs ago.

Satun province North of Perlis/Kedah & where the train passing thru after Hatyai is not affected at all bcos historically, Satun was not under pattani govt but more related to Kedah/Perlis govt that hv gave up Satun after 1909. Those 4 provinces are part of the ancient Pattani Malay Govt that also incude Kelantan & Trengganu b4 1909 and thus these Pattani ppl are the one fighting for their long lost land after the signing of agreement between british & Thais..

BTW...I'm taking abit of risk this coming CNY by driving from Taiping to Betong at Yala province to visit PKM camps.. blush.gif biggrin.gif , Thereafter probably turn back drive to Pdg Besar to Satun & maybe Hatyai, avoiding the scary bombing road after Betong towards Yala shocking.gif
