Did you have an active AmBank account when you opened the True by AmBank account ? I already have an AmBank Islamic Basic Savings Account when I opened my True by AmBank account online and everything was couriered to me and I did not have to visit the bank branch anymore. Activation of the True by AmBank debit MasterCard was done with just a phone call to their call centre.

I have SCB cc, wonder if I can open the account online (conventional) without need to visit branch.

The only ATM near my house is Ambank ATM.

My saving is in Maybank eGIA, similar to most of you all.

Recommend you use SCB for withdrawing instead of ambank. Just need to put rm1500 inside SCB Just One (not sure SA/current). After that just transfer it out since SCB JustOne have free IBFT and IBG.

There could be a way to get around the annual fee. What you need to do is to open a non-fee Basic Savings Account and cancel and True by AmBank debit MasterCard. The only fuss of course is that you need to transfer money out from your True Account online to your Basic Savings Account before you can withdraw the money. However do note that you only get 8 free ATM cash withdrawals a month.

Must transfer to current account. Rm1500 fresh fund is just to give u free meps withdrawal. If u don need that, u no need to bank in 1500.

Now, I am confused with Ambank's statement, saying that:"if your True by AmBank debit MasterCard is also linked to a non-fee Basic Savings or Basic Current Account, there shall be no annual fee.".

If we open an Ambank non-fee Basic Saving Account, we would get an AmBank Debit MasterCard. So, the only way to get a TRUE Debit MasterCard is to open both TRUE Transact Account and TRUE Savers Account.

Referring to the Ambank's Statement, to waive the annual fee of the TRUE Debit MasterCard, the account owners of TRUE Transact Account and TRUE Savers Account must also open an Ambank non-fee Basic Saving Account and link the debit card to the basic saving account. As such, that person will not get an AmBank Debit MasterCard.

Then again, that person would have 3 account numbers, and that is a hassle to manage, right?

that annual fee is applied for debit card, how does it affect your FD?

u can still maintain saving account without a debit card, i think just need to do 1 transaction (deposit/withdraw) per year to remain active.

If i close my true now. I have have to issue banker cheque for my fd at around rm5.3

I want to deposot the fd to truetransact first then ibg to my other saving then only close the true account.

I already raised this issue and as a case for them to look into. Now they are considering and deciding to charge or not charge.

I tell them, I use it as an ATM only. In this case, you want to charge me annual fee for the functionality of the Debit. Can I cancel it? Well, canot. So why I get charge for this. Talking quite long on the phone, wasted quite alot of my time talking to a noob operator.

Well, as for now, you guys just wait la. If still charging I will close the account. I use to for transaction only.

Yes, It's black and white after I saw in their page. But we are forced to use their debit card which I never use it also.

Do you know you can make your monthly payment FOC using the transact account? I put some big amount in there and pay my bills and credit cards from other bank. Anyway, 10sen is money also.

If you want the free one, go for Standard Chartered JustOne. Free IBFT, Free card. Yes 10 sen is money that is why I open Just One (it have free IBFT which is worth > free IBG)

From my understanding, come Nov 2016 is considered as first year and every True by AmBank debit MasterCard will get their annual fee automatically waived next month. They will only start charging annual fee from Nov 2017.

Anyway, according to the email they sent to all True by AmBank customers. If your True by AmBank debit MasterCard is also linked to a non-fee basic savings account, the annual fee for the debit card will be waived. So, if you must use this True by AmBank account and do not want to pay for the debit card annual fee, you might want to consider opening a basic savings account and link it to your True by AmBank debit MasterCard.


Standard Chartered is not for everyone due to limited branch presence.
