S.Korea picks Airbus to supply 4 in-flight refuelling tankers rclxms.gif rclxms.gif
SEOUL, JUNE 30

South Korea said on Tuesday it chose Airbus Group SE to supply four in-flight refuelling tankers, which two people with knowledge of the matter said was for a tender worth around 1.2 trillion won ($1.07 billion).

Airbus' A330 MRTT beat Boeing Co's KC-46A and Israel Aerospace Industries' MMTT for the tender, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration said in a statement.

The people declined to be identified as they were not authorised to discuss terms with media.

I think coincidence.
So far no news suggest they suffer from the same failures.

PLA Navy receives its first mobile landing platform

user posted image

Guangzhou's Wenchong shipyard officially turned China's first mobile landing platform, known as vessel 868, over to the PLA Navy on June 26, reports overseas Chinese-language news outlet Duowei News.

Vessel 868 shares many similar characteristics with its American MLP counterpart, according to a Sina Military Network report. It is developed specifically to carry the PLA Navy's Zubr-class air-cushioned landing craft in future amphibious operations. With a displacement of 3,200 tonnes, vessel 868 was launched on Feb. 27 and completed its sea trial a month later.

When joined with other MLPs, vessel 868 will greatly enhance China's force projection capabilities. In the case of military conflict over the disputed South China Sea, the PLA would be likely to launch amphibious landings with MLPs against the islands and reefs currently under the administration of Vietnam and the Philippines. The MLPs would also likely figure in a potential invasion of Taiwan, said the report.

A mobile landing platform is "half-submarine and half-boat" because it has a semi-submersible deck for ease of transferring cargo and equipment. The ship's main roles are to transport heavy weaponry and combat supplies as well as act as a transfer point between large ships and small landing craft.

USNS Montford Point, the first MLP delivered to the US Navy in 2013, is expected to enter service this year.

The upgrades for the Kedah-class, I am told will not be funded during RMK11. RMN had hopes to upgrade the Kedah class for ASW and ASUW and fitted them with missiles and torpedoes.

Satellite Imagery Reveals China’s New Drone Base

user posted image

QUOTE
Satellite imagery of Hangzhou Bay shows that China has recently renovated a reserve airfield for dedicated drone operations in the East China Sea.

With military aviation being a priority, China’s been slowly moving toward operating more capable UAVs. Analysts and policy wonks alike have little doubt those capabilities will be put to good use as China develops a more assertive foreign policy.

In fact, they may already have.

Space snapshots acquired by DigitalGlobe from April 2015 show three of China’s BZK-005 parked in front of aircraft shelters on Daishan Island, located just off the coast in the East China Sea. The platform’s associated ground control stations were parked nearby.

Imagery suggests they’ve been operating from the airbase for at least two years—not surprising given the government called for the development of 11 new drone bases to be positioned along its 14,500 km coastline back in 2012. At the time, Colonel Li Jie, a researcher with Beijing’s Naval Research Institute, suggested they would be used to “track any foreign aerial vehicles within [China’s] maritime territory” — a comment probably aimed at U.S. drones.

However, with territorial disputes in nearby waters, they’ve also been used to create friction with China’s neighbors.  In September 2013 for example, Japan’s Self Defense Force scrambled fighters to identify what it described as an “unknown aerial vehicle” flying toward the disputed Senkaku/Diaoyu islands.

The Japanese Ministry of Defense released handhelds that revealed the drone as the BZK-005. Given the time-frame of the incident and the azimuth of flight, it seems likely the drone flew from Daishan—a detail not previously disclosed.

According to historical imagery, China began renovations at the airfield patching concrete runway tiles and removing encroaching vegetation between mid-2010 and 2013. At the same time, authorities constructed two new support areas.

Located near the south-end of the runway, the first area features seven aircraft shelters, each measuring approximately 22 x 27 meters. Those dimensions suggest each shelter could potentially house at least two of the UAVs. The second area, located less than 800 meters to the east, probably supports a barracks and a motor pool. Construction activity at this location was ongoing in early 2015.

i hope military plane not use too old, 40 year max, de TNI C130 crash already 51 year use....
same to RMAF C130 already 45 year.
altough getting 4 unit A400M, still no enough to replace all C130. should get 2-4 more. than combine with more few CN235. than retire all C130H
i think TNI or Indo Gov will get new Airlift ASAP after this accident to get back the image.
