You don't have much choice... Say, if they really arrange for a 2nd interview, it won't be conducted thru phone anymore. Most employers will want you to go there so that they can see you physically.

bbmars & wakabushi,

Do you guys want to meet up again? Please look at your pm. TQ.

Well, talking about exchange rate, not that far off compare to some 15 yrs ago.. much the same as right now. I remember, 10 yrs ago, I went US, it was a similar rate compared to now. My friend, the past few yrs, I had been paying insurance for my children in US$.. can you imagine.. ~$1.7 then compare to now?

Some 12-13 yrs ago, while travelling in Australia, it was also a similar rate. Nothing changes.... Well you can't say not a dream, during the recession, it was something like this..

S$ vs NZ$ = 0.7 to 1
S$ vs A$ = 0.8 to 1

Its the reverse right now...

If you can spare a little cash, try travelling on MRT to the other end of SG.. along the way, you will find many shopping centres and malls... but don't really bother to find what what's in them.. shopping centres almost identical for some... take a trip round.. enjoy the air-con, watch people behave and react.. If not.. really boring...

I used to studied in UK and was out travelling for the 1st month over Sat & Sun... but soone got tired of it.. Its typical English Town... High Street where most shopping is done, Church, market, .... Castle if.. depending on where you are.. And worse, at that time, Exchange rate was S$3 to 1 pound... where to find so much $$ to travel?

lucky, U computer lab 24 hrs open.. stay ther chart with wife. apart from that, my other favourite is going to market ..seeing lots of people and their activities.. amazed me.. also learn to make friends with the local...not so much my classmates.

Agree totally with the article link above. The house rent in singapore is increasing a lot. My group of friends just decided to rent a 3 bedroom HDB costing S$1,800 a month excluding the bills. That's just too much I think for a small and medium sized apartment

I've been working in Singapore for 4 years.

I'm been a PR for 2 years.

This country is a shithole.

Only a fool would want to live here long term

Its even worse now as living expenses are going through the roof.

Working here will be a joy short term, but dont ever think of settling down here.

Btw, 20% of your money goes to CPF, and its just as good as written off, cause realistically, you'll never see a cent of it, not even if you give up your PR until you are 55

Chill there bro, working in SG is not that bad, as long as u dun stay IN singapore, but you'll have to bear with the travelling everyday. As for me, i work 24hrs shift, so i only work 15 days a month, travelling is not that much of issue for me.

You are lucky you are not a Singaporean then. CPF withdrawal age currently at 62. Soon to be increased to 67 in a decade.

Can understnad that kind of price is killing all lot of people... the SG Gov is aware.. but what to do? not only workers, even foreign bosses are complaining, even in seminars, I get to hear such things from Ang Moh...

CPF, SG Gov say whatever.. soon become law.. My father's generation escape,.. but my generation is stuck in transition.. my children's generation.. with the change in CPF policy.. If Singaporeans as predicted really lived up 80+, I believe that's is good... BUT... I would rather the citizens do the saving themselves than being forced to so do.. I do understand the Gov Stand, but understanding does not = agree with their action.

Amidst the concern, I also agree about cases cited by them and how these people are surviving now, because my father is a typical example... who didn 't really planned and take care for his retirement, use up all his CPF after retirement within 2 yrs. He is retired for >15 yrs. He still very much dependence on me.... its really a load though and I also have my own family to take care of, but again his is my father ... Right now, I had already done what the Gov is trying to do some 10 years ago, not that I had planned but was encourage but someone and I wasn't even certain at that time I was doing the right thing.

But like I said... I would do it on my own.. not FORCED to...something I hated.. like many of my colleagues....disagree too... because we do planned for our retirement.. However, GOV too smart, based on survey, only a mere minority does it.. so they are popular in doing mass kind of thing to make sure all are in... at least, do them, they can spend lesser on welfare and spend it somewhere else.... ?whatever...

Well... whatever, .. Singaporeans agree to it? the good side is, if we really are that long life as statistics has shown.... that could be something good... Something I think most Singaporeans would agree to the finding. We are indeed seeing more old people living longer and older. But again.. the SUCKS thing is about the ANNULTY thing which most do not agree...... something I think will affects the PAP Gov if they do it.

CPF withdrawal age raised,... just like Malaysian PR don't like it, we locals don't, but there are those who agree, even including foriegners turn citizens because they came from different background and had seen something we had not.
Retirement age being raised to eventually to 65 along with CPF age changes... Personally, I do wish to work if I could... as least past time, get some pocket $$ and take life easy.. at slwoer pace. But current living style is so different from what i used to see.. None really foresee what is happening today..

Likewise, Malaysians, beware, I read too that the life span of Malaysians are also going up...and MY Gov will soon do something to it.. just matter of when... may take years to come since it had already been mentioned. I believe whoever sitting in the office will start planning or may be not..? However, MY problems is not likely to be as serious as SG... because of low birth rate and aging population.. aggrevating the situation..... Several years ago, and more aggrasively, SG Gov is doing in big ways and means to improve infrastructure all around teh island preparing for "aging gracefully"...

Whatever the withdrawal age, I believe you still can withdraw you CPF provided you do not wish to come back to SG to work... I think this is applicable to E. Malaysians... like Sabah and Sarawak... W. MY, I don't know.

Hmm there are a lot of reasons.

One of them is probably the high stress work environment. But that one aint too bad once u are used to it.

Then there's this population problem. man it feels like u are boxed in. Damn HDB's everywhere u go.

Forget about driving a car as well, the maintenance, parking, ERP fees will kill you. Only option is MRT, and the price rises every year cause they have a monopoly.

Social life can be good in singapore, if u are willing to spend. but whats the point? If you start spending, theres no point to go singapore to work in the first place. You will end up with nothing.

Money's the only real reason for staying. So you will be slaving away for pennies, and the goverment will find new excuses to take your money every few months.

Also one last thing is that once you come here, you will be trapped. First, you say you wanna stay a few years just to get money. Then a few years later, you get tired of the bullshit here, and want to move back. But you realise there is nothing waiting back in msia. All your friends have moved on, and have their own lifes and friends . You have nothing left, all you have is your work in Singapore. Then you will be miserable like me. Stucked between a rock and a hard place

I'm very sure it doesn't for West Malaysia

The Singaporean goverment wont allow it
