That processor is not worth the premium price IMO if it's just for gaming. Invested in the 120hz G-synz screen instead.


Another lemon unit. Mine hit a high 86 degrees playing Witcher 3 on high settings. Acceptable but I'm probably gonna repaste it like everyone else. A colleague repasted his AW 17 using Kryonaut and he's looking at 70-80 degrees with undervolting as well. I'm just afraid of opening it and fucking up the Killer wireless card.

I have a 6 year old Toshiba laptop as well and it's still holding very strong without any issue at all. A shame the Japanese manufacturers are not investing in gaming laptops. I reckon they will do a much better job than their Chinese and American counterparts.

Yeah ... I just read service manual, repasted not a easy job, need open a lot parts

Gonna be a workstation and only part time gaming rig
So it's configured with Windows 10 Pro.

better build a PC bro.. alienware PC aint expensive compare to other branded

Made a good choice getting the 6 cores as a workstation.

Ok, after Dell technician repasted & exchange Heat sink with fan assembly. My laptop back to normal, average temperature around 80c while playing normal game. Idle about 45-50c. But re-pasted thermal really difficult job, experience Dell technician also need about 1hour to do it . I saw him almost remove every parts then only able to re-pasted thermal, and have to take care a lot of small parts & screw. On that time, one screw was missing, luckily he got bring extra.

Dell technician quite nice, he offer me either got better quality thermal paste & he can help me to re-pasted. He also advice me, if overheat still happen after re-pasted, complaint to Dell & asking for 1 to 1 exchange.

note: Dell using Shin-Etsu Microsi Thermal paste.

He also said MSI much better, why not choose MSI

get the technician name.. n complain to DELL.. haha.. MSI only TITAN is better.. THE GS is slightly below AW becoz their still using 7th gen cooling style.. if they put 1 more heat pipe then GS cooling win aw liao.. but due to chasis design... it is limited...haih..

GE n GP... beat ROG lo.. n illegear raven if u repaste thermal compound...in cooling.. (er... mayb close eye oso beat ROG... not sure.. bout tat yet.. )

Actually, I not familiar with internal design of those machines, the reason I choose AW because of it solid build body , like a muscle man .

oh no.. dun go tat direction.. is a thorn in bone for aw fans.. it went from a tank to muscle man...T.T

for the older gen user. like my m17xr4.. aw is almost indestructible...

I had one m17x-R4 with GTX 770M. i am looking another aw. maybe looking same model m17x-r4 also. i like this machine because it have HDMI-IN.

any lobang i can get m17x or m18x? haha

Previous generation chassis is made from Aluminum Magnesium alloy and coated with rubber.
Indeed indestructible, my old 14xR2 is still in service.

Thanks bro , I try Witcher 3, fps fix at 60 (may be my screen is 60hz), temperature around 80c without undervolt, not bad.

1st version aw laptop tat dispatch is 2002... no1 can reproduce this de.. coz all wan cut cost

Now my AW15 got another problem, the screen suddenly become dark & flashing (something like LED light turn off), it will back to normal after few seconds or more. This problem appear randomly. It happen about 5 times in 2 weeks. Any Sifu got any idea?

sound like loose connection, better ask technician to check it out.
