I managed to find out the issue already. Editted my last post. Apparently I need to push the heat sink in. Im not sure why isit so. The screws are tight. Thickness of the thermal pad maybe?

alternatively you can put a piece of copper shim between the heat sink and the die. make sure both sides of the shim have thermal paste.

Btw, whats the normal idling temperature for alienware lappy? An also under load such as browsing(chrome). Mine is constantly around 60 degrees. IS this too hot and signs of in need of thermal repasting?

usually idle cpu temperature should be around mid to high 50's. (depending on cpu. a higher end cpu will be hotter) 60c at idle should be ok but it's at slightly higher side. for gpu, it's usually below 50c at idle.

actually the more important part is the max temperatures for cpu and gpu, under loads at room temperatures. if possible don't let them go beyond 85c. when it's this high, it's time to clean up the cooling system, and replace thermal paste.

it takes a year+ for my machines to reach this high temperature. normally, the max cpu's is around 80+c, and max gpu's is below 80c.

But its performance seems to be stuck between GTX 1050Ti and GTX 1060M. Good thing is you have Amplifier port for future use.

In your opinion, is it worth to buy alienware amplifier rather than upgrade/replace my laptop? Running on gtx860 only. Some games really cant be played and on lowest settings. mad.gif

If you don't mind getting used parts, those unlocked i5 PC running cheap DDR3 will definitely be faster than your laptop + AGA. AFAIK your laptops's i5 is only dual core right?

im running the old M17x R4, not the 17 R4, so there is no thunderbolt port. Mine comes with a MXM so i can easily swap in a GTX1060 inside if i wants to

I think most of the people complaining are running on GTX1070 and 1080. The GTX1060 should be much cooler since my 13R3 is fine with i7-7700HQ and GTX1060.

Yeah seems like it. Went to the reddit page and noticed most people that was affected are running GTX 1070. The horror stories there kinda makes me restless. I know that they may represent a small part of the community but still, for such a premium brand, these things shouldn't have happened.
