QUOTE(horns @ Apr 6 2018, 07:09 PM) just found out dell has released the latest bios updates for m17x r4 and aw18 r1, to fix intel's spectre/meltdown bugs. this is impressive. Wondering if I update my Alienware M17x-R4 unit will it work with NVidia GTX 770 card. Currently with custom BIOS.edit: not many laptop manufacturers are doing this to protect their customers, especially for old laptops. |

QUOTE(Alan Chong @ Jun 24 2018, 12:51 PM) Now my AW15 got another problem, the screen suddenly become dark & flashing (something like LED light turn off), it will back to normal after few seconds or more. This problem appear randomly. It happen about 5 times in 2 weeks. Any Sifu got any idea? looking your post makes me wondering the build quality Alienware nowadays. I guess rumors about worst QC for Dell is quite true. |

Very happy with my AW13R3. After repaste and do some tweaking and modification the temperature as below;
(stress test about 1 hour) before, CPU idling: 60C to 70C (some core different almost 10C) max: 92C to 97C (damn hot) GPU idling: 65C to 70C max: shoot until 99C lol after CPU idling: 49C to 52C max: Not more than 82C~85C (with turbo boost) GPU idling: 54C~57C max: 73C~77C With undervolt -150mv via XTU even reduced 1C to 2C further. and almost fan spinning not even heard. with TurboBoost enabled bossted to 3.8GHz and with daily task (word, surfing, checking email) the temperature registered not more than 60C. Nice. I will share the picture later. |

Sharing some mod that I've done to my laptop.
(As attached) i use some aluminium tape (can be bought at ace hardware) and tape around the fan and some of copper heat sink. Basically this is to ensure the heat is not spread out (its like contain it) and the heat will flow right the way it was. For thermal paste I've used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut (paste) and Thermal Grizzly Minus Pad 8. At the moment idling is around 50C with room temperature. I've used same method for my Alienware M17X-R4. So far so good. Cheers. QUOTE(nicks @ Aug 5 2018, 10:58 AM) Very happy with my AW13R3. Oh yes before I forgot, the last image shows got 1 thermal tape (near RAM slot). That is to reduce temperature for PCH. After some stressing it wont raise more than 65C. (Previously shoot up at 78C.
More info can look below link. PCH |

QUOTE(edmund_yung @ Aug 19 2018, 08:52 AM) Haha yup. Its like wrapping the heat so heat can flow to designated place. it its like motorcycle exhaust some people wrap it with some material so the heat is not spreading anyway. |

QUOTE(Zelz92 @ Aug 21 2018, 10:48 AM) Cool MOD. thinking of doing the same Could be uneven surface on the heat sink. else, is it overheat? if does then need to contact Dell ASAP. My i7-8750h 15R4 didn't get any better after re pasting with Kryonaut. Guess the 6 core processor just runs hot. Thinking of contacting Dell again next month. |

QUOTE(Zelz92 @ Aug 30 2018, 07:00 PM) These are temps while playing Dota 2. Repasted with Kryonaut. Woah that is very critical temp u got there. I've read a few enthusiasts said 8th gen really is a hot chip. Therefore Intel will slightly down boost the cpu speed in order to prolong the lifespan of processor. ![]() ![]() ![]() That's what I thought so. They change the heatsink once. and the heat isn't getting any better. Will report next again week. Wow, that's really out of alignment. My unit fits perfectly with a small and even gap between left and right hinge. You can either do undervolting via XTU or disable the turbo boost. The core logic is already 6 and it won't affect your gaming experience that much. |

QUOTE(capsulr @ Oct 17 2018, 02:01 AM) If give liquid metal to dell engineer they can apply or not? I believe they can apply but the risk is there. You should know a bit mistakes your board/chips/processor will fried. It is 'metal' in liquid form though.Also if I buy alienware with the 120hz gsync tn panel, and later want to change to normal ips or Oled should be no problem right? Or does it need to be gsync compatible also? Check on the Net regarding how to paste with LM before u proceed. |
