Thanks a heap. I'll bear that in mind when I purchase for my rig! Do you think GTX970 is enough for every game?

There are some games that eat more than 3.5GB of vRAM,you can tone down the settigns to prevent it from reaching the limit.

With the current technology and hardware offered in the market, it is impossible to run triple A title at 4K at 60 fps (max settings) with just a single card, even the top tier GPU like Titan X.

You might end up with 2 or 3 way SLI of the top tier GPU to achieve that but it is not really worth the money in my opinion.

I will rather wait for 4K ready GPU (with single GPU since SLI sometimes not really working well with some games) before I invest in a 4K monitor or play at 4K resolution at max settings.

But if you want to know how much to spend in order to achieve 60 fps at 4K max settings, you will need at least another GTX980Ti + higher wattage PSU + SLI ready mobo. The total money needed will cost you a bomb  sweat.gif

Ouch.... guess I'll stick to the recommended stuff then. Thanks for the suggestions folks!

Also, another minor question. Since I haven't been following IT news much, just want to know... is this a good time to upgrade my PC? Are there any expected changes on the horizon the next couple of months or so?

I'm talking any big shifts like launching of new processors, new generation graphic cards, etc. Understandably, normal price drop on old hardware is expected.

Yep, Skylake (6th gen) processor coming soon, probably in late Q3 or Q4 2015. As for GPU, AMD just launched their new 3xx series lineup and Fury GPU. Nvidia should have something new in Q4 if they follow the sequence last year.

GPU price is from Idealtech, others are from Viewnet inclusive of GST.

I am not sure if Viewnet have AMD 3xx series card yet since they haven't updated their price list but I think they have it already since other shops have started selling it since last week.

Asus B85M-G - RM 313 (Well you want Asus for the quality and reliability reasons but their after sales service is bad TBH doh.gif )
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 209 (Dual channel is faster but you won't notice it in real world performance so just get 1 stick of 8GB, cheaper than 2 sticks of 4GB and have higher resell value in the future)
Seasonic M12II EVO 520W - RM 319 (A lot better than Corsair CX series due to 100% Japanese capacitors inside)
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 189 (Don't get WD Green, it is a turtle, max speed is just 5900RPM compared to Blue 7200RPM, you will notice the speed difference when you copy huge amount of files or load games etc.)
PowerColor R7 360 2GB GDDR5 - RM 459 (R7 260X is last generation card, get the new 3xx series, enough to max out Dota 2 at 1080p)
Corsair Carbide Spec-01 - RM 229 (Can switch to Thermaltake Versa H25 to save money)
Cryorig QF120 Performance (2200RPM) PWM x2 - RM 98
Asus DVD-RW SATA ODD - RM 59
CM Hyper 212X - RM 169

Total: RM 2044

Still have budget left, can use it to get a better GPU if you want.

Actually it's all about luck when talk about reliabilty, even some branded product could just be faulty after few days. You can get full ATX size mobo by just topping up RM 70 (Asrock H97 Pro4) for more RAM and PCIE slots + newer chipset to support more features.

Seasonic M12II EVO 520W is a good quality PSU, it can handle your system well, your system falls under mid power consumption group so don't have to worry much about it. It can even handle high end GPU like GTX970/980 without any issue.

PowerColor is a Taiwanese company and just entered our market last 2 weeks. It is significantly cheaper than other brands and build quality is ok from what I have read from the review online, just like Xiaomi which is offering similar specs to other brands but at a much lower price. If you are worried about it, change to Sapphire by just topping up some money.

I made some adjustments to the build which includes a better GPU:

Asus B85M-G - RM 313
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 209
Seasonic M12II EVO 520W - RM 319
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 189
MSI Tiger GTX960 2GB GDDR5 - RM 850
Corsair Carbide Spec-01 - RM 229
Cryorig QF120 Performance (2200RPM) PWM x2 - RM 98
Asus DVD-RW SATA ODD - RM 59
CM Hyper 212X - RM 169

Total: RM 2435 (Viewnet price inclusive of GST)

GTX960 offers almost the double performance of R7 360. GPU usage for Dota 2 max settings should be around 50-70%.

Even mid end GPU like GTX960 can also support 4K gaming, it is just the matter of playable frame rate TBH tongue.gif

Haha, we wouldnt want that now, do we. I'm talking about a full blown 4k gaming on a 60 FPS. Do you think GTX980Ti is sufficient?

Medium settings (no AA) probably can have 60 FPS with a single GTX980Ti, if you are talking about max settings then confirmed cannot with the latest triple A titles.

AA is Anti-Aliasing, a technique used to remove or smoothen the jagged line

Triple A title is those high quality games like GTA V, The Witcher 3 etc.

There are many Xeon E3 variants, some are same tier with i5 (4 cores 4 threads), some are same tier with i7 (4 cores 8 threads).

If you are saying Xeon E3 1231 V3 then the difference between them is the extra threads.

Threads are like virtual core and can process things faster.

So if could top up you will recommend to take Xeon E3?
