I am renovating my house and planning to change all my switches to smart switch. I was informed that the smart switches I want requires neutral wire. I am wandering whether I need a neutral wire for each switch regardless of gang or each gang requires a neutral wire.
My electrician is charging me RM200 for each neutral wire installation. Is this reasonable?

Each switch need a neutral cable, not each gamg.

Fuhh rm200, not really worth it bro
Anyway I’d recommend this sonoff zigbee switch
Work with or without neutral wire

Single phase? How much does he charge to install a 3pin socket next to the switches? If cheaper, do that, later can change to switch yourself and tap the neutral from there.

It's 3 phase. According to the electrician, none of the switches has neutral cable now so have to pull for every switch.

My whole house using smart switch without neutral.... so far I havent encountered any issues for 2 years. Only changed 2 malfunctioned switches so far (1 of them the IC burnt) but I believe it's due to the quality rather than it being neutral or non neutral

Just use zigbee technology, instead of wifi. There are Zigbee wall switches that can work without neutral wire.

For zigbee, I suggest to use zigbee2mqtt, so you can mix and match multiple brands of zigbee devices.

Assume using same ELCB right? If different ELCB will cause trip?

I'm not sure about this. The neutrals I tapped from are from the same MCB.

My neutral always tap back from the same circuit, and for my house the lighting point and switch and the hot water all different ELCB... 0.1, 0.03 and 0.01 I think... hence I think if different ELCB will trip.

Since you’re already engaging an electrician to install electrical wiring, you might want to consider adding the following:
- SPD (Surge Protection Device) in the DB box to protect your smart gadgets from lightning strikes and electrical surges.
- Smart RCCB (to replace your existing RCCB) with auto-reclosing function, real-time power usage display, and current leakage monitoring.

I recently installed one in the upstairs DB box after my old RCCB kept tripping occasionally. Using the real-time readings on the unit (and on my smartphone), I was able to identify two leaking devices:
- An old laptop power adapter leaking about 10mA.
- A water heater leaking 20–30mA.

To prevent further issues, I’ve turned off the circuit breaker for the water heater.

The auto-reclosing feature is especially useful, it automatically turns the Smart RCCB back on if it trips unexpectedly (e.g., due to lightning). However, if the RCCB keeps tripping after several attempts, it will stay off until someone manually resets it or checks the wiring for faults.

If you’re planning to install a solar system in the future and want to monitor both import and export power, consider getting a bidirectional RCCB.

Hi,
I like to this for my renovation. Intend to install Solar system. Could you provide some links for the SPD and Bidirectional RCCB.

Sorry if is repeated question, tried scrolling this thread + search function, can't find any related answer.

N years ago, my eletrictian asked me to get a no-neutral smart switch, so, bought a no-neutral wifi + rf433mhz 3 gang switch, installed with a capacitor on my first lamp, follow by another lamp and ac fan.

Recently the switch start to be not responding, probably due to wear & tear, thus, finding back a similar smart switch. I prefer the kind with 'press' function, not the touch screen type.

But nowadays, the 'press' type in the market thats come with Wifi + Rf433mhz are all 'Need Neutral', can't find any is no neutral.

So my humble noobie question
1. If there is a fan, does it means it actually have a neutral wire inside?
2. Or, if I die die install a Neutral require switch, what scenario will happen?

1) most of the switches have LIVE only (without neutral). hence you wireman asked you to buy the no neutral switch.
2) there are 2 options in this case. a) you pull the neutral wire from fan back to the switch (means you need to do bit wiring la)
b) you curi neutral from somewhere near, maybe from aircond switch (but this is highly NOT recomended)

But I think nowadays, its more common to have no neutral switch la. Good luck!

Thanks ya
The fan's neutral wire is usually connected at the fan there, instead of at the switch is it? I tried open my switch socket to see, all wire same colour, no idea about wat is wat.
If yes... then option (a) hard for me, also Google (b), yea, neighbour switch is aircond, seems very dangerous.

If so, no choice but to continue search for my favor design switch

Both Aqara, sonoff supports no neutral wall switches, but it is Zigbee switch, you need to have Zigbee gateway.

Have browse through these, not suitable for me (just treat me as degil), coz whole house only using one smart switch for my bed room, for me to set timer, control lights & fan using RF433 switch on bed anytime, so no plan to add on extra device.
Still looking around, since I hard to pull wire & not to curi tepi wire, no choice then forced to get the 'touch screen' style smart switch.

Thanks btw.

Yeah, not much option now with rf433mhz combo
Mostly are still with the touch switch type
You can still mod in rf433 receiver into the pcb just a bit hassle to configure the firmware

I think you could use this one

I just found this on AliExpress: MYR18.23 | Tuya Smart Life WiFi 433mhz Wireless Push Button Wall Switch Google Home Light On Off 220V RF433 Remote Control EU UK Two 3 Way

Thanks for your help, but unfortunately, this is a vice device switch only, not the main gang.
