Even for the two way smart light switch, one of it is act as a wireless switch. So yes, the 20A smart switch will be wired the same like the 2 way smart light switch. You will only need 1 20A smart switch tho, as the other switch won't have 20A running through it. You can use a single multi-gang smart switch to control both light and fan anyways DragonReine liked this post

You can use relay for that and just add contactor to the switch wired to the water heater. It still would operate as normal even without network/automation![]() Using wireless switch on the other end might not be reliable if the network goes offline/battery dead Another interesting relay is the sonoff basic r4 if you don’t want to mess with existing wiring much ![]() DragonReine liked this post

QUOTE(DragonReine @ May 8 2025, 02:39 PM) I have super newbie questions 🙇♂️ would like to ask: For high-power appliances like water heaters or air conditioners, I prefer using heavy-duty relays rather than standard or miniature ones. Regular relays aren't suitable for high current loads. For example, if you run your washing machine on hot water mode, you'll notice that the 3-pin plug gets hot and in the worst case, it can even melt the plug and socket.1) Are smart switches able to wire for 2 way, specifically smart switch for water heater? One of the smart switch vendors I spoke to suggested that I use app scene/automation function to mimic 2 way switch function instead, I'm not sure if this is recommended... 2) From my understanding, most smart switches are not compatible with DC fans. Would like to ask anyone's experience, do IR/RF blasters work well with remote controlled KDK fans? Consider using a 30A relay module that supports Tuya (Wi-Fi/Zigbee) and 433MHz. It can pair with up to 8x 433MHz wall switches (1-gang). You can install the relay module inside the water heater casing, hardwiring the existing switch wiring. Then, replace the original water heater wall switch with a 433MHz wall switch, placing one at each bathroom entrance for convenience. |

I understand Aqara devices are recommended. However, could anyone please recommend some Tuya/HA compatible Smart wall switches & sockets? Ideally really affordable ones and reliable. Trying to keep every under Home Assistant. Pondering to get the HA Green setup. Links & advice appreciated. Thanks

Makes it more reliable with extra features because tuya integration sucks For wifi switches there’s esphome or openbeken And for zigbee switches, have a look at this list. You can add multipress/binding/convert to zigbee repeater for the non neutral switches https://github.com/romasku/tuya-zigbee-swit...=readme-ov-file As for hardware reliability, the most common issue when the switch malfunction because 1 tiny capacitor bulging/faulty on the pcb. Just replace that and it’ll work again as normal. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « HA green not really necessary, you can just get those tiny mini pc for cheaper price. |

Ideally really affordable ones and reliable. Trying to keep every under Home Assistant. Pondering to get the HA Green setup. Links & advice appreciated. Thanks If you want to use Tuya with WiFi and avoid intermittent connection drops, make sure your current WiFi router supports static IP assignments for each device. If you plan to upgrade your router, consider a GL.iNet router, which comes preloaded with OpenWRT and receives long-term firmware, security, and feature (AdGuardHome/TailScale etc) updates. Also, avoid using the native Tuya add-on in Home Assistant. Instead, use "Tuya Local" (not "Local Tuya"). With Tuya Local and a static IP for each Tuya device, you'll no longer rely on Tuya’s cloud service, which can disconnect frequently and often requires a "trick" to restore the native integration when the connection is lost. As for smart wall switches, buy just one unit first to test it out. Replace your existing switch and check if it physically fits in your wall switch box, as this wall smart switches can sometimes be too bulky to fit. If it doesn't fit, you may need to explore alternative options. |

QUOTE(Alert_RaZO @ Jul 6 2025, 12:41 AM) It should be totally fine to replace your current switch with a 2-gang smart wall switch. Just make sure to get one that doesn’t need a neutral wire (No Neutral), since your setup doesn’t have one.Once you’ve got the smart switch up and running, you might also want to upgrade your fan regulator to a Universal Ceiling Fan Remote Controller, makes things a lot more convenient! hi everyone.. i have some smart switches from smatrul around my house. uses wifi.
thinking of upgrading to these switches for better feel when pressing instead of the touch panel which can be annoying when it doesnt detect the touch once in awhile. https://my.shp.ee/Nh9b7NZ but says it requires a Tuya Zigbee hub? i have no idea what zigbee is... and would prefer to not add any other hardware. what exactly is zigbee? do i need to buy additional hardware n connect to my router? if yes, what hardware? how well is the coverage as my house is a 2 storey terrace which requires 2 mesh wifis n still cant really get full speed on the furthest mesh. also my best friend just bought an apartment n his dreams of having a smart home is a little delayed as he has to prioritize his finances on other parts of the apartment....so thinking of getting him the same switches to start him on his journey. i assume will require this zigbee hub thingy? anyone know of any mechanical smart switches from smatrul that uses wifi n needs no neutral? tried going thru their official store n those mechanical ones says require zigbee or maybe i have mislooked? ive only used smatrul and tuya and prefer smatrul along with the smart home app. |

Latest is matter over wifi and thread. Where you can just add other device from different manufacturer/brand into tuya app Thread is basically the new zigbee. Just the adoption is really slow |
