not sure is this the right place to ask but can't find any general threads for robot vacuums

any good ones to recommend for budget RM1k - 2k+?. Wide range I know but who knows I can get a good one for lower price, but I dont mind spending more for a really good one also. Is it worth to get one with mopping function or better to save the money?

currently looking at roborock S6 pure / maxV. Roborock is same as Xiaomi right?

ecovacs deebot t9, offer at june 19 rm1899, if u got 10% unlimited coins voucher then around rm1700 only with coins

roborock s7 maxv  (called roborock t7s plus in china but not release here yet)> ecovasc deebot t9 > roborock s7 ; they all got mopping function but need refill water manually

roborock is better than xiaomi
*
i was looking at S7 as well but seems over budget for me, mostly costs like RM3K - 4K+

that's why I narrow down to S6 pure / maxV

will check out ecovacs. thanks

But now got cheaper option by sonoff & tuya, it’s a no brainer
Also, stick to zigbee bulbs

Thanks. I'm reconsidering now and looking at Yeelight. Seems not bad as well

Well recently my cousin got this smart home company to set up his home. Just simple lighting, aircond, curtain and some LED lighting to change mood when watching movie and stuff. Looks quite wow.

He tried to explain how it works to me tapi I just impressed with the wow...lagi impressed with the price. See la maybe I wanna do some for my house when ready next year.
*
Much cheaper if you study yourself how smart home works and then you buy the components to setup yourself. For some like smart switches and socket still need electrician but still will be cheaper than getting a 'smart home company' to do everything

1) All aqara switches and sensors (motion, etc) require an Aqara hub? I read that I could also use Xiaomi hubs. Which is better?

2) I plan to get aqara sensors to pair with Yeelight and to use automation (like if motion sensor is triggered, lights will turn on, etc). Will this work if I do the automation in the Yeelight or Mijia app?

To be honest I'm a bit confused as there would be 3 different apps for automation? Mijia, Yeelight and Aqara?

3) Is the Xiaomi push pull smart lock recommended? I prefer this push-pull design than the conventional design

Since you are planning to get Aqara switches and sensors, then best to get their hub as well to avoid any unwanted issues

One thing I learnt when doing my own studies on smart home.... make sure you fully understand the difference between wifi only devices and zigbee devices. I feel this is the basic knowledge before starting a smart home

Wifi - no hub required, direct connection to router, will congest traffic on your wifi network if there's too many devices, latency depends on your wifi signal

Zigbee - hub required, devices connect to Zigbee hub and hub will communicate with router, free up traffic on your wifi network, might have some latency depending on the connection between the hub and your router

let's say i'm using one of these smart plugs -

https://shopee.com.my/Tuya-Wifi-Zigbee-Wall...39-4d1badd4552c

instead of connecting my TV directly to it.... i connect an extension or a Belkin surge protector, then I plug in my TV onto that, is it still possible to control the TV via smart functions?

smart plug > extension/surge protector/ > TV

Please define your "control" statement. This wall socket only can power on/off the TV based on your statement, that's all, nothing.
*
turning on/off the TV from app

turning on/off the TV using voice control from Google Home

setting schedules (from app) to turn on/off the TV for a certain period

wanted to know does it work if I use an extension, or my TV needs to be connected directly to the socket?

Are you using Android Smart TV or else? If your turn on the power socket doesn't mean the TV will turn on by itself, I think u still need remote control to do so unless you're using Android Smart TV.
*
yes its going to be a smart TV (Sony Bravia)

so my understanding now is the TV on/off and the smart plug on/off is seperate?

is it possible to create a custom function where upon voice activation (eg: turn on my tv), it first needs to turn on my smart plug then only proceed to power on the TV?

vice versa for power off, it will turn off my TV then proceed to power off the smart plug

Hi all, noob here asking basic 101 questions.
I'm looking for a smart switch to power my master bedroom lights and I'm already in the Google Home ecosystem, and I'm looking for a gray/brownish color (not white!)

What kind of options do I have? Originally I saw Aqara but they all come in white =(

Try this from Shopee

No neutral no capacitor, can last?

Neutral wire is optional. But iinm most smart switch nowadays also dont require neutral wire. Our light switch by default also without neutral wire

i wont locked myself with this proprietary protocol,
wifi all the way!!!~
and you even need to use their hub...

both Zigbee and Wifi have their pros and cons

and Zigbee is not exactly proprietary... just like Wifi but a different protocol

Zigbee compatibility between vendors is not good, almost impossible for multiple vendors work together to make their own devices compatible to each other.

Matter is designed to make all future IoT devices to work together.

Thread is another protocol similar to zigbee but based on IP, it intends to replace zigbee/z-wave due to standardization and multiple vendors support

does it mean its impossible to pair a Tuya switch to Aqara hub or they must be both Zigbee 3.0 to be possible?

I'm keen on getting an Aqara camera hub as well but only Tuya/Moes offers a smart dimmer switch...... if not possible to pair together then I have to forget about Aqara and just get a Tuya/Moes hub

Even both is Zigbee 3.0 is not possible. So if you really need a smart dimmer, go for Tuya if Aqara does not have one.  Btw, it's not impossible you can get an RPI with HA but it's rather complicated
*
sorry but what's RPI with HA?

[EDIT] you mean something like this?

I’d say most likely no
There’s incompatibility or just proprietary issues as well.
At least until matter arrives (which is still delayed)
Which is where zha or zigbee2mqtt comes in presently

Ikea bulbs, sonoff sensors, aqara switches, tuya dimmers? Just pair it up

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Btw, get the tuya smart knob, great for your smart lights control. Better than symfonisk one since got additional rotating gesture
*
I dont plan to get any smart lights, just normal dimmable LED downlight and spot light, and use this Tuya dimmer switch

https://shopee.com.my/product/372243380/397...91-1654232224.9

Seems so far only Tuya offer something like this. Other brands either dont do it or the smart dimmer only works with their own smart lights

Reason I asked was because I found a shopee comment on xiaomi's zigbee 3.0 hub saying they're using it as a gateway for other brands using HA.

Theoretically, this is supposed to be how it works. Even Tuya mentions it in their help center:
So if Aqara/Xiaomi's gateway does comply to Zigbee 3.0 standard, then they should be interoperable with Tuya's. I just don't have any Zigbee 3.0 devices to test myself.
*
This was also mentioned under this Tuya Zigbee hub shopee page, so I was confused initially and thought Aqara's hub should work with other Zigbee switches as well

Q&A:

1.Q:Does this hub work with ZigBee 3.0 products?

A:Yes,it can not only work with tuya zigbee products, but also zigbee 3.0 ones.

just something that I've been wondering....

many seems to avoid smart switches that requires neutral, is it because its hard to pull the neutral wire? or mostly is due to extra costs doing it?

Anyone using Tuya's smart curtain? Any reviews? Is the motor noisy?
