I learnt the hardway too that Sonoff wall switch cannot easily be used as neutral wire is missing. But at least i only bought 2 to try.Smart Home, Let's discuss

QUOTE(Nando's @ Apr 20 2019, 06:35 PM) FYI, I bought the Sonoff T1 for my water pump switch. It did not work as it requires a neutral wire which is normally not available in our household wall switch.Alternatively I bought the Sonoff S26 Smart plug for my Water Pump as it is still using a plug-in-socket in the ceiling. Works a charm! Can even control it internet if you are out of the home wifi. Why you need a switch for the pump? Well for some household, there is leakage and it triggers the pump to go on even if no one is using any tap. Also I believe it helps to prolong the lifespan of the pump when you off it while not using. This after I had to change my groudfos pump in less then 5 years. What other uses you guys have for smart switches? Frankly I cannot find too many. For table lights, i have old school timer switch. I have a 2nd Smart plug for my charging table for devices, set it on countdown timer so i dont overcharge or avoid being blown up and killed in sleep. AC is a good idea, but which switch can i use? My ac still have that big box with 2 buttons to on and off. |

QUOTE(Nando's @ Apr 24 2019, 11:44 AM) yes read the below.1) A smart switch is needed to OFF the power so I can conserve power. And I dont have to manually walk to ON/OFF the big box which I assume consume for power then a smart switch. 2) Having ON the power to the AC, the AC still will not power ON! This can workaround with AC standard remote on timer or the Xiaomi IR. Two options A) like someone who knows how to hardwire the AC directly with a smart switch . This would be beyond me. B) Get a Smart Switch to replace the Big Box. (Easy if 1hp AC can be done directly). Add the Xiaomi IR. Everytime on AC need to use 2 apps and on 2 times. Dont think the above solution is so refine. QUOTE(idoblu @ Apr 15 2019, 10:15 AM) just get this - https://shopee.com.my/XIAOMI-Mi-Universal-I...8004.1005656667 This Wifi IR remote replaces your current AC remote. The difference is you can control it thru your MiHome app. This Xiaomi IR Remote connects over Wifi so you dont even need the Mi Hub theres no need for Sonoff POW, just leave the AC switch on. |

QUOTE(vandechrome @ Apr 24 2019, 12:31 PM) are you still using the old AC? AC is new model. I can probably by pass. Will check it out, if i need neutral or ac point comes with neutral, or POW dont need neutral.new AC don't need the magnetic started anymore. you can bypass the starter and use normal 20A switch. it will be easier to install the sonoff POW at the switch itself. |

QUOTE(alucard89 @ Jul 28 2023, 09:39 AM) basically just check if the plug still works normally to turn on/off. Thanks.last time this happened the firmware got some issue, and I just install custom firmware on it. probably gonna have to claim warranty since plug is compact and a bit difficult to crack open to do any firmware flashing. red light, wifi cannot connect. manual press on/off doesn't work, reset no effect. yes, cant see an easy way to open the plug. Just ordered new replacements. |

QUOTE(eagle7 @ Sep 19 2025, 09:48 PM) Since you’re already engaging an electrician to install electrical wiring, you might want to consider adding the following: Hi,- SPD (Surge Protection Device) in the DB box to protect your smart gadgets from lightning strikes and electrical surges. - Smart RCCB (to replace your existing RCCB) with auto-reclosing function, real-time power usage display, and current leakage monitoring. I recently installed one in the upstairs DB box after my old RCCB kept tripping occasionally. Using the real-time readings on the unit (and on my smartphone), I was able to identify two leaking devices: - An old laptop power adapter leaking about 10mA. - A water heater leaking 20–30mA. To prevent further issues, I’ve turned off the circuit breaker for the water heater. The auto-reclosing feature is especially useful, it automatically turns the Smart RCCB back on if it trips unexpectedly (e.g., due to lightning). However, if the RCCB keeps tripping after several attempts, it will stay off until someone manually resets it or checks the wiring for faults. If you’re planning to install a solar system in the future and want to monitor both import and export power, consider getting a bidirectional RCCB. I like to this for my renovation. Intend to install Solar system. Could you provide some links for the SPD and Bidirectional RCCB. |
