QUOTE(r47z @ Apr 13 2015, 10:50 AM)
you cannot escape from stone chips. just avoid highways as much as possible - the lorries and trucks are the culprits. NKVE is notorious for it.
*
With or without coating, there will be stone chips, same goes with bird droppings. A car will encounter all these throughout its lifetime. I know the feeling to own something new, owner will sayang the car a lot when brand new.

But remember this well, a car is to be used, and it will be damaged no matter how careful you are. If you used it day in day out, no matter the what damage it suffered, nor the mileage it rakes up, it has served you well, and it is worth every money you spent on buying the car.

Don't worry about stone chips/bird droppings/accidental damage, it is a car, use it, and let it assist you in what it is made for.

Horse and man one body, if man scare horse got scar, then might as well don't get a horse. laugh.gif

In the end, polish/respray can help you regain the shine back. How much does it cost to respray?

Mazda 2 Sedan Red in colour

Going for 1st service in few days, any service center to recommend? Staying at Kepong, don't mind travelling as long as the service is good.

Welcome to Mazda 2 club and family.

If you got spare time, and want to exercise, wax yourself, but remember to wax the car in one shot. Else, send it to car wash and let them wax, they might have package. Or those on Groupon if you feel it is not worth spending so much on a car after 5 years. laugh.gif

No cure for all cars, there will be rain sound from the roof no? It also depends on the size of the rain drop. blush.gif

Dear Expert murasame85,

I narrow down some of my concern:

1) Those who bought M2, do you all concern about the resale value? example if you want to change to a better car, will it a concern for you to sell a better price? Since everyone is mentioning the value is low, is it means you purchase RM89k but selling off with only RM10k?

2) Service and labor parts for a long run? (do not assume all are wealthy)

Other than that is till acceptable for me.
*
1) I buy an M2, because I feel it is worth the price. After 9 years, every RM90K car should have at least RM22k worth. I am selling my '06 City and asked around 2nd hand car dealers, RM20k - 23k range. All car value will drop eventually, value high or low, it all depends on the reliability. VW Golf 1.4L TSI, original cost I believe RM140k+, 2012 car now cost RM79k selling at a 2nd hand car dealer.

2) Honda City '06, cost me about RM360 per normal service at Honda SC with fully synthetic engine oil (for 10,000km interval, I set my own since every 5,000km after X0,000km is just normal service), RM2,500+ for absorbers & undercarriage links, changed 3 times throughout 9 years (200,000km), brake pads front and rear (forgot price) 4 times, brake rotors (RM1,100(?) for front pair) 1 time, air filter, fuel strainer, aircon filter, idle pulley, clutch flywheel once RM1,200, spark plugs 5 times RM400(?), brake fluid, CVTF, aircon pulley, beltings, 1 set of rims, 3 sets of wheels, wheel bearings one set, etc.

So, since Mazda 2 is also a B-segment car, I expect it will cost about the same as Honda City for maintenance. It won't cost a lot as maintaining a Mazda 3/Honda Civic (C-segment) of course, try ask for Mazda 3 CKD Hi-spec 18" Toyo T1S tyres price and see?

QUOTE(GNR @ Apr 13 2015, 08:06 PM)
1) The reason why I am willing to buy a Mazda is because I don't plan to sell it so soon. As someone pointed out, after 5 - 7 years the resale value between a H and a M is different but minimal. If you're planning to sell in 2 - 3 years time, the difference can be huge.

2) I have a service schedule which my SA shared with me which includes GST, assuming the price list doesn't change after the 3 years or 60,000km whichever is earlier, the average cost of maintenance including parts and labour and GST is about RM360. Please take note that I have averaged out the cost by adding the total of each service interval (which is a combo of minor and major service) then divide by 11. It only shows me till the 11th service or 100,000km or 5 years. It does not include costs like changing spare parts like brake disc, suspension and the usual stuff that you need to change from wear and tear.

It shows engine oil, oil filter, packing/gasket, air filter, cabin filter, fuel pump - feed filter, fuel filter, brake fluid..only

I can't rememer what coolant was it that the maintenance guy told me that does not need to be changed at all for the entire lifetime of the car, engine coolant? or is it air con coolant?..can't remember leh.
*
Looking at your feedback, the maintenance cost for Mazda 2 is about the same as Honda City ('06 VTEC version). I expect it will be around this price range if we considering have our cars service at SC.

Yes, engine coolant. In fact they recommend to change every 100,000km, but that is for winter countries, since the anti-freeze (glycol) absorbs water over time, it will lose its anti-freeze effect. The car coolant is a close-loop system, and you need to check the small water reservoir besides with radiator every month, and top up with distilled water, not mineral water. If there is a hole at the radiator, it will leak and time to repair.

Thanks a lot for your explanation.
Just hope to get more information in order not to regret as I am not a wealthy person. Every single cents count for me.
Haha

if your are concern about money, my best suggestion is to get a car that useful to you and ur family. M2 is more to the fun drive side. I believe you wanna buy a car that for long term use and City is the best choice so far.

can do basic sound proof roof + doors. Below RM1k should cover it unless u want higher end more layers of sound proofing + dampening material.

Hamel V95 8mil, 95% IR rejection RM1100

There's also a great package from Cool Master which I didn't manage to go as they were fully booked and I lazy to wait so I went for Hamel instead. If you call them, they actually have a higher grade tint than the 1 below for RM500+:

Personally I have doubt on your statement of City the best choice for long term use. I was a City '04 owner and sold the car after 6 years due to CVT gear box issue. Although Honda claim their current City model is using new CVT technology, for me it's reliability is still yet to be proven...

Well, I would say you have bad luck. It is well known that Honda Malaysia messed up big time during the initial introduction of CVT. They used the wrong oil and the result was apparent. Some were lucky enough to have it malfunction within 3 years and therefore save a hefty replacement. My family had a City 08 which also had the same dual clutch CVT and still running fine till today.

I do own 2 City, '04 and '06, the 04 City changed gearbox, and replaced more stuff than my 06 City. To sell it now, seems like not worth it to let go, hence selling my 06 City instead. But, 04 City has better fitting and NVH insulation than 06 facelift version.

The new torque convertor type CVT used by Honda is proven technology, used in Nissan Xtronic CVT, Toyota eCVT. The older Honda clutch type CVT is no longer used. Only problem with torque convertor is loss of power, the latest City doesn't accelerate faster than older clutch CVT City.

i believe so long the cvt fluid change periodically and you not racing the car like playing around the shifters (if your car comes with it like inspira or preve or older idsi citys) cvt box should be lasting for quite some time. Yea i do personally skeptical on cvt box as my feeling on the wear and tear on the steel belt and pully would have been really intense (imagine the belt and pulley always grind on each other all the time compared to gears which take turns as the gears are shifting), of coz you won't see anything obvious before your car odo clocks 100k and above. hence my personal take is take auto box if you wanna drive the car for long long time and cvt if you are a gentle driver. it's just my 2 cents though.

Don't be so racist against CVT la. Even Altis and Sylphy are on CVT and their acceleration are quite superb. New gen CVT really different liao. I first felt this when I test driven the Mitsubishi ASX and the Sylphy. New Honda City I not sure but based on my experience with the vTEC Honda City I think it was '06 they are very very slow. sweat.gif
