QUOTE(horns @ Aug 7 2015, 04:33 PM) hm. it's much slower than i thought. yes, get liteon 256gb, put 15% op, and it will last you for a long time. hehe i hope to play with some too. it's still like very rare in the market. went to czone and was surprised that the liteon ssd was much more expensive rm 430 so i went with a hyper x fury because i also needed to buy a new mouse - mine died last night. now i regret it abit. shouldve bought lite on or just hyper x savage

hornsSeems like the issue was solve and the cause is the linux kernel itself https://blog.algolia.com/when-solid-state-d...not-that-solid/btw , dont understand what it means in technical therm for the fix http://www.spinics.net/lists/raid/msg49440.html . So , time to get a ssd Do I need to buy a new bracket for ssd ? will it fit into a floppy disk slot ? Do you think Liteon a good buy ,reading reviews it's oem for dell ssd.

Do you think Liteon a good buy ,reading reviews it's oem for dell ssd. oh this is good news from the blog post and patch, it seemed that data corruption occurred due to pointer from ata driver being set to wrong address when trim is used with raid (in linux kernel). i think only kernel gurus know what this means lol for us users, hopefully with the patch, the black list will be updated later. (not a big deal. we can patch that part manually) by the way which distro are you using? if your hdd caddy cannot house ssd properly, you might need one to secure it in 3.5" hdd bays. (new casings usually comes with settings for ssd) yes i use liteon oem ssds also. to me, they're good. liteon is a common name in major brands (mostly higher end laptops and workstations).

QUOTE(deShinyDevil @ Aug 9 2015, 10:17 PM) looking for a ssd as os drive, cant decide on liteon s900 and transcend ssd370. any commnent on these or there are better ssd out there if you checked out previous posts (crawling or searching through the ssd threads), the main reason we recommend liteon s900 because it's one of the mainstream drives that have the best price/performance ratio (as of now). internal components wise, s900 uses toshiba toggle mlc nand, and its controller is the same as plextor mainstream drive, m6s (some said it's based on plextor performance drive, m5pro). it's not that transcend drives are not good. iinm it's tagged as the recommended drive by some well-known review sites. of course there are better choices, but it also means you need to pay more.

QUOTE(antaras @ Aug 10 2015, 02:38 PM) Just upgraded my copy of Windows 7 to Windows 10. Then I thought it's about high time I make some much needed cleaning. So, a clean install it is. Then I thought again... might as well get myself a much needed SSD. Booommmmm... start up and ready in around 20 seconds? dyamnnnnnnnnnn... Why it took me so long to invest in an SSD?! bcoz ppl are skeptical y u pay rm3xx for 120/160gb when hdd can get u 1TB minimum at that price welcome to the world of speed, u will crave for more SSD space in near future.

QUOTE(deShinyDevil @ Aug 10 2015, 11:19 PM) Do i have to reformat the new ssd before installing OS and update the firmware? the correct sequence should be updating the firmware first. for w7 and up the install media will create default partition layouts and do formatting for you, so you don't need to do anything.

QUOTE(skylinelover @ Aug 11 2015, 12:42 PM) Daa fuq I retiring from computing upgrade 4 good haha dang maybe we all don't need that kind of speeds and iops. for user computing i don't think we can benefit from it. (many bottlenecks. hdd is one) if you wanna have smoother experience, it's better to use ram cache (if you have a good amount of ram). i back up work files daily (weighted about 1gb each, normally less than that), i use ram cache (2gb each) to boost ssd-to-hdd transfers. when i copy files across drives, they are like the same speed for ssd and hdd (ram cache speed, not ssd or hdd). of course if the transfer involve huge files, it will not work. (speed will drop to match slowest bottleneck)

May I ask what's a proper mSATA SSD these days?
my laptop has 2 mSATA slots, and one of it is used up (i'm using a Crucial M550 256GB mSATA), and I would like to add another (for gaming purposes)
What would be your recommendations?

Crucial drives are good. Maybe you wanna get another 256gb to do raid0. (Double the speed and space. Hdd as download and storage) Preferably use the same model for a system. It's easier to manage (using the same manufacturer supplied software to manage all of them) If you wanna go for capacity, there are not many choices for msata. Again it's m550 512gb, or samsung 850 evo (up to 1tb; rare, might need back-to-back order)
