Crucial drives are good. Maybe you wanna get another 256gb to do raid0. (Double the speed and space. Hdd as download and storage) Preferably use the same model for a system. It's easier to manage (using the same manufacturer supplied software to manage all of them)

If you wanna go for capacity, there are not many choices for msata. Again it's m550 512gb, or samsung 850 evo (up to 1tb; rare, might need back-to-back order)

Yeah, I was thinking what to do since I do need the storage, but I'll keep in mind for your advice, or probably buy 2 new mSATA SSDs (that are obviously larger than 256GB in size). However I feel mSATA is, for whatever reasons, ridiculously overpriced. Sigh.

usually the price should be slightly higher than 2.5" sata. however i think you should do research first. i did a rough check here. check out mx200 500gb. it's lower.

note that you can also combine sata and msata ssd as raid, as long as the ports have the same bandwidth (e.g. sata iii for both) that's why for haswell laptops you can do 4x sata+msata raid0. (depends on the total compatible sata ports) with 4x mx200 500gb i can get roughly 1.7tb+ ssd space (15% op), and about 2GB/s seq. speeds + combined iops.

oh this is good news smile.gif from the blog post and patch, it seemed that data corruption occurred due to pointer from ata driver being set to wrong address when trim is used with raid (in linux kernel). i think only kernel gurus know what this means lol for us users, hopefully with the patch, the black list will be updated later. (not a big deal. we can patch that part manually) by the way which distro are you using?

if your hdd caddy cannot house ssd properly, you might need one to secure it in 3.5" hdd bays. (new casings usually comes with settings for ssd)

yes i use liteon oem ssds also. to me, they're good. liteon is a common name in major brands (mostly higher end laptops and workstations).

Oh, thanks for the explanation , Normal beginner Debian user ubuntu. smile.gif

nice smile.gif

yes, scs is the retail version. don't mind the relatively low 4k thing, it's good enough for general use. let's just say plextor is a retail brand (originally japanese, but later became a taiwan brand) and liteon is mainly for oem. they use the same ssd technologies. you can read more about their relationship from wikipedia.

yes bro, imo scs-l9s is the better choice compared to other choices in terms of price/performance ratio.

btw i'm no sifu. we are all learning.

I've been using it for quite a while but when running benchmark it isn't hitting the speed I've expected it to hit
why is that ?

Looked like sata ii speed to me. Which model is this mac? Maybe you need to connect the ssd to sata iii port to get the full speed.

The speed performance is between hdd and ssd. If you're looking for good sustainable speed, get ssd.
