any review on Samsung PM871 256GB?? can't find any  sweat.gif

btw got any other recommendation for 240/256GB SSD. budget RM399.99  unsure.gif

yes, it's lack of reviews. pm871 should be similar to 850 evo in retail, except for its write speed (around 250MB/s). it should be sufficient for common use.

add another 20 you will get liteon s900.

Hi sifus,

A question about cloning. I got a Transcend SSD370 and I read up that most people recommend a clean install so that ACHI, TRIM, alignments are all not messed up if compared to cloning. Is that true?

Is it possible to clone safely or is it very highly recommended to make a clean install?

oh you asked for top brands. kingston, corsair, and transcend are fine also (at least for general use). know that reliability is relative, and is subject to many factors, e.g. you usage; built-in components like controller, ram, nand flash type; features like power loss protection; how you optimize and maintain the drive, etc. in general, you get what you pay for.

the best way is to do a clean install. it starts fresh and gets rid of any issues stem from known and unknown os- and third-party-provided driver conflicts, os-related settings (especially registry conflicts), etc.

as for cloning, especially from hdd to ssd, it really depends. know that modern os today can adjust automatically and accordingly to different hardware, so the risks of hitting walls are much smaller these days.

i think you should try cloning first. if it doesn't work well, do a clean install.

Hi everyone there is a question i need to ask right here.
I have a Macbook Pro Mid 2009 model and I'm looking forward to upgrade from a normal HDD to a SSD.
Is there any recommendations that i could look out for ?
I get a lot of people telling me to get the Samsung 850 Evo and some told me to get the Crucial MX200. Is it necessary to get the more expensive SSD ? Because no one actually recommended me a cheaper option.
Will be looking forward to read from this thread soon biggrin.gif

use acronis, preferably version 2014 and you won't need to worry about trim or alignment.

any ssd would be far better than any hdd. i use the cheapest kingston brand in my two computers for over 2 years and am yet to see any degradation in performance

Samsung 850. lots of good review. I have been using an Intel 525 for the past 3 years. No complains.

Put either Samsung or Intel one, you will feel like a brand new Macbook. Yes seriously, even my Windows Laptop upgraded to SSD, I feel like a brand new without buying a new laptop.

Thanks for the replies

will take that into consideration as i have just found out that the crucial mx200 have that rain technology that does data protection thingy which i would find it useful for i use my mac for my work. does the samsung have that kind of thing too ?

after knowing that im actually leaning more towards getting a crucial mx200

no, normal sata cables will do. (like the ones that come with your mobo)

both are 2014 drives. not sure which one is newer.

So I installed my new SSD, did a clone, reformatted old partition on HDD.

At boot, it still feels a bit slow, like it will freeze a bit before steam and some programs will boot properly. Could it be because I forgot to defrag my partition before cloning?

You could have gotten SSD with a RM100 discount before Raya, there was an event with 30% off for electronic items.

I got my Transcend SSD370 256Gb at RM244 a day before Raya. Received it yesterday rclxms.gif

usually it doesn't matter. yeah a good practice is to prepare the os for cloning. which os are you running?

if possible do basic optimizations based on the link at the first page of this thread also.
