Anyone know what kind of helmet is this? I noticed some US soldiers are wearing it? I took this from a TV series. Is this US new combat helmet?

OMG, In the middle of parachute jump test (only using just ONE Huey helicopter no less, bcoz Pinoys totally don't have any flying airplanes) which landing zone  is actually a village-side rice paddy field, complete with village children and herds of water buffalos running around (which is ridiculous in itself), as if compounding the sheer ridiculousness,the sole Huey helicopter was called away, mid-test, due to some of clashes with communist guerrillas in another part of country, so jump test is postponed a few days until helicopter is available.

It's so distressingly ridiculous, made me ROFL  and shed tears in bewilderment at the ridiculousness of it all.

Jakarta hints at interest in CH-47F

Jakarta and Boeing have held discussions in regard to the company’s CH-47F Chinook transport helicopter.

In a brief statement on its web site, the Indonesian defence ministry said that Boeing is exploring “Chinook cooperation with Indonesia.”

The statement includes a photo of a Boeing executive handing a model Chinook to Indonesian defence minister Ryamizard Ryacudu.

Flightglobal sought comment from Boeing on the matter, but had received no response at the time of this story’s publication.

The Indonesian press release follows a US Department of Defence statement in late January that Boeing was formerly awarded a Foreign Military Sales contract for eight AH-64E attack helicopters, finalising a deal originally announced by former defence secretary Chuck Hagel in 2013.

Jakarta does not operate the Chinook, but in 2005 expressed interest in possibly obtaining four examples to bolster its disaster relief capabilities. CH-47Ds operated by Singapore were active in disaster relief operations following the 26 December 2004 tsunami, which laid waste to coastal regions of Indonesia’s Aceh province.

Were Jakarta to obtain the Chinook, it is not clear if it would buy the type in sufficient numbers to warrant a local assembly line. Still, local airframer PT Dirgintara Indonesia has experience building helicopters under licence from companies, such as Bell and Airbus Helicopter, and is also capable of making local modifications to green aircraft produced elsewhere.

Rafale proposal 'effectively dead' as Dassault bid not cheapest

Even as three Rafale fighters line up in Bengaluru for eye-popping aerobatics displays at the Aero India 2015 exhibition this week, senior ministry of defence (MoD) sources say the proposal to buy the French fighter is "effectively dead".

The reason: During three years of negotiations between Dassault and MoD officials in the so-called "contract negotiation committee" (CNC), it has emerged that Dassault's bid was actually higher than that of the Eurofighter Typhoon, not lower as the MoD had announced on January 31, 2012.

Dassault had submitted a sketchy commercial bid, and when the CNC obtained details from the French company to arrive at the actual cost of the Rafale, the figures added up to significantly more than had originally been estimated.

The confusion is due partly to MoD inexperience with "life cycle costing" (LCC). The global tender for 126 medium multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA) was the first time the MoD was awarding a contract based on LCC. This meant the winner would not be the fighter with the cheapest purchase price; instead the chosen fighter would be the one that was cheaper to buy, fly, maintain and overhaul over its 30-40 year service life.

Inhofe said he hopes the images act as a wake up call to the Obama administration and American people, who largely have been spared from seeing the graphic violence inflicted upon Ukraine by the Russian-backed separatists…

Following publication of this story, serious questions have been raised about the authenticity of some of the photographs provided by Sen. Jim Inhofe (R., Okla.). Several images of the Russian convoys were taken in 2008, during Russia’s conflict with Georgia. Other photos showing Russian troops also were later proven to be Ukrainian separatists, not Russians. Given the similarities between the earlier images and those provided by the senator’s office, the Washington Free Beacon is investigating further and will update as necessary.

Sen. Inhofe said in a statement: “The Ukrainian parliament members who gave us these photos in print form as if it came directly from a camera really did themselves a disservice. We felt confident to release these photos because the images match the reporting of what is going on in the region. I was furious to learn one of the photos provided now appears to be falsified from an AP photo taken in 2008.

"We would like to have the 'same standard' of what is being produced in France," the minister said. He said efforts are on to thrash out the ‘pending concerns,' which according to him cannot be termed as ‘issues.' He refused to comment when asked whether one of the concerns were that of the ‘build standards' of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL).
As per the deal, first 18 Rafales would be built in France and the remaining 108 be produced in India. "There are no issues. When we make the aircraft at HAL they (Dassault) will have to be of the same standard manufactured by the OEM," the minister said.
He said the government was keen to give the Indian Air Force (IAF) pilots best flying machines. "Our capability of assembling these fighters may not be as good as the OEM (Rafale). But they should help HAL bring out machines matching what they make in France," Singh said. He admitted that the OEMs exporting defence equipment to India, might not part with their best technology so easily.
He said there could be some price escalation, but refused to go into the details. "Not everything can be discussed in public," he said.
