Sharing photo of my tank, about 6 months now.
still much to learn.....

previously used Dophin 1400, flow was high initially, then later feel not high enough
change to Fluval 307- also feel not really enough. added a sobo pump ( back thing at top left). may be i am over obsessed with flow.
i am thinking flow could help to reduce the algea issue.

Currently facing green dust algae on the tank wall- i can scrap it off weekly.
though some BBA break out recently... clear those on rock with excel, but seems it is among the moss
Had some staghorn earlier as well..... it is gone for now.

i suppose the CO2 dosing wasnt enough
not sure if too much waste as well.... so reduce feeding for now
WC is 30% per week

PS: on the 2nd photo
top is Java moss, bottom is Xmas moss.
Java is really messy as it goes long and require regular trimming. the off trim goes everywhere in the tank.
Xmas moss is more neat.

your tank looks good. but yea, having a good flow would help regardless.

java moss is not nice lah, better trim it off and just stick with the christmas moss, it's so much better.

hmm, got a picture of your tank? let's see how it goes since the last 18 months? i think your schedule is quite okay but just need to be a bit mindful.
is your macro fert all in one type?, consistent is the key, let your plants adopt to your consistent dosing schedule, you should be fine.

by the way, can ditch your java moss already. really not nice and they grow all over the place.....
*
well... my journey- 1st tank had turned into farming tank... nothing much to show.
2nd tank is in my office.
which trouble free. will share more about it later

this is my 3rd tank.... set up just before MCO 1.0
really put lots of effort there. There was a moss tree... but failed and removed.

yeah from far looks good.
just that when look near - the plants are not 100% healthy.....

well- yes replacing gradually to Xmas moss gradually. Already change 3 branches... let it grow better first.
coz i dont want my tank to be botak during CNY

btw.... the hair grass at the back... seems not able to reach the top of tank. idea is to have effect like this.

user posted image
any other type of plant that i can use?

PS: my tank dont have light screen... i just put frosted glass paper there. for similar effect, and cheap.
might add on LED light at the back

I've just set up my tank yesterday. Due to time constraint, etc. I've decided not to use any of the plants and rocks that I bought previously, maybe for the next scape. So for me, I just go Dutch this time, given that I have sufficient plants to go with.

Here's a picture of my tank at Day 1.

I've also taken some video clips, but still haven't got the chance to vlog it. next time when i'm free, i will do it.

Nice! thumbsup.gif I always like dutch style.

I don't know how to configure my flow because I have a lot of stem plants. At certain point in the tank, the flow seems too strong because one or two plants there almost knocked over while there seem no flow on the other part of the tank. However when I feed my fish, I can see flow there when the semi floating micro pellets sink. I only use small dophin internal pump filter which I do need to clean the sponge filter everyweek.

Did you try amano shrimps? Maybe they can take care that BBA/staghorn issue on the moss. BTW, did you use fan or just air condition to keep water temp low?

I just started my tank last week, now it’s been 9 days since I setup. I noticed this Murdannia green is acting weird. It grows very fast, but the leaves at the bottom are slightly brown. Any issue on this? I do 20% water change daily. No CO2 yet.

can try doing spot excel treatment at the affected area?

switch off your filter, then use syringe to slowly pump excel onto the affected plant, and do water change after that, the algae should die off soon and then your amano or other CUC would dig on them.

can try red long nose shrimp aka jumping shrimp, they're quite effective in cleaning up some algae too.

got a portion of this plant free from the shopee seller when i bought my plants but it's not nice, the bottom stem part like dying off, if i were to use it, i will cut off the brown part and only plant the healthy ones.
never have any experience in dealing this plant, but i may cut it off and just replant with the healthy ones, if i were you.

suggest you can also DIY co2, just have to do it once a week, or up to 10 days, i'm also experimenting on this as well.

will update my tank on a monthly basis.

Yeah, I read even SAE don't eat much. My first BBA experience, it just covered the leaves with matte black layer but it seems like it is stunted, didn't grow to hairy like looking. My 2nd BBA experience in different tank, it grow hairy on the edge, around the leaves. I don't think it is staghorn because the color is black, not grey. It also look stunted, not blooming. I put in 3 CAE for different reason but they end up eating all the BBA. However BBA keep coming back. The older leaves that already cleaned from BBA by CAE remain clean but the newer old leaves get infected with BBA.

I think it's more like CO2 did not spread evenly to all area. Maybe you can try reposition the CO2 diffuser next to the moss. Maybe that can help since it is easier to have dead spot around moss.

Do you dose any fertilizer? My best guess is you're missing some macronutrients.

Yes, you are right. Hydrogen peroxide works too. I just bought it today too just in case I need to deal with BGA or BBA in the future. I don't know why I did not buy this sooner. I may have save a lot of plants if I did. 😁

Just replace check valve, or use double check valve only

Nope so far. As the soil is new, I'm afraid with fert will bloom the algae.

I saw some seller sell complete set for RM300 at aquascape fb club. Or you can try DIY co2 using acid citric & baking soda. Even with DIY you will be itching to get a solenoid. If I remember correctly, solenoid for DIY co2 is a lot cheaper.

QUOTE(tachlio @ Jan 24 2021, 10:09 PM)
liquid Co2 is not equal to actual Co2 that plant needs, its normally using to kill algae.

Better direct invest on proper Co2 system, those DIY style, you unable control amount of Co2, fluctuation of Co2 causing more algae issue.
I using 2L tank @10g tank, used from >6month, still having plenty inside.

Maybe need to dim the light. The light maybe too bright which encourage it to grow too fast. Also looks like the old leaves are melting which is normal. Let it melt & drop. New leaves should remain healthy. If not, definitely it is nutrient deficiency.

Seachem Excel is not toxic. You really need to overdose it for it to become toxic.

On fertilising, two times a week for both micro & macro seems the best. My plants grow well, new leaves are healthy. Since I have reset one of my tank by dipping all the plants in clorox bleach solution to get rid BBA, I have been dosing macro & micro on alternate days; today macro, next day micro, repeat. Sunday is water change day. However in this particular tank, the older leaves on Ludwigia look damaged. New leaves look healthy-ish. Maybe take weeks to thrive back. The plants was taken from another tank & was healthy.
