Still puzzling.

For algae, I will try to overdose Flourish excel and reduce lighting period, now on 5hours ON 5hours OFF 5hours ON 9hours OFF to 8hours ON straight.

Hi all, after few days of extensive reading and YouYube-ing, I'm interested to dip my feet into this hobby - the picture that has given me inspiration:

user posted image

I like the Iwagumi concept, and I could just watch the Youtube videos of Iwagumi tanks for hours!

So, with Iwagumi concept in mind, I'm going to start small, this is what I have in mind - just focal rock with Monte Carlo plant as carpet, stabilise the system first for few months before adding shrimps:

user posted image

I've decided to get these equipments - I'm willing to spend ~RM600ish for total startup cost - let me know your thoughts:

Glass Tank:

Fluval Spec 5 gallon (~20 liter) approx RM400.
Would LOVE ADA tanks, but when considering separate external filter + lighting system, I guess I'll get this for upgrade in future when I fully grasp the whole idea.

Substrate
ADA Amazonian? Do I need extra boost?

Co2 System

Ok this is what I need your help with - I'm planning to put this in my bedroom, which has a lot of big windows with UV film + thin transparent curtains.
Although I'm going to put the tank on the corner where direct sunlight does not hit - it will still get indirect sunlight as the bedroom is bright during the day.
I read that high light needs high Co2. Ok, I can put in Co2 system.

I think I'm going for pressurised Co2 tank system - as I occasionally travel for work (~4 weeks at a time) so DIY yeast/sugar is not feasible.
I found this method here which I think is good, but requires extensive DIY. Is this what you guys are using? Especially in Malaysia, how easy to buy the Co2 cylinder? Is there any suggestions where I can get the regulators, valve, etc hardware (Kajang/KL)?

Flora

Monte Carlo carpet and some dark coloured rocks - will see what I find in fish shop smile.gif
I hope I'm not missing anything else - appreciate your feedback!  thumbsup.gif

honestly, 20 liter is abit small, for me lah

I feel sad, really really sad. Below is my story.

My tank recent parameter (for past week) have a stable parameter(finally fulled cycled after 2 month setup) with 0ppm Ammonia, 0 ppm Nitrite and 20~40ppm Nitrate.

On last Saturday, I've addded 5 Yamatos, and on yesterday (Sunday), I've done my periodically 50% water change. During water change, the water temperature is increase to 28.5~29degC, normally my tank hover around 28degC constant.

Today, I woke up with 4 Yamatos dead, what did I do wrong?

I feel sad, really really sad...

i think 50% change is a bit too much, especially when u just added shrimps a day before.

i usually add new shrimps on the day i do my water change. no more than 35 or 40%.

when u introduce shrimp to your tank on saturday, they need to adjust to the water. then the next day 50% water change i think made the water condition changed again.

just my opinion la.

Will try its again.

BTW, does it safe to eat the Yamato? Its kind a red right now.
*
to be safe, 30% would be ok for weekly change.

i wont eat it lol

dear sifu,

I am intending to set up an aquascape aquarium.

1) I am planning to set up a 5 feet (5X2X2) aquarium but is advised by several people that 5ft is not economical as the set up price is double than the cost of 4feet. may i know your advise on the statement

2) I also planning to use 12mm tempered glass but found out that everybody prefer use normal glass compare to tempered glass. anybody have experience using tempered glass.

3) what is the best glue to use when constructing aquarium besides silicone?

thank you
*
1. no idea.

2. do not use tempered glass. tho its name is tempered, but lets say if a kid throw a rock towards your tank (not that anybody throws a rock inside your house) it will shatter and everything will come gushing out. normal glass would probably still have a crack and lines.

3. still silicone

Tqvm on the reply. Well noted on the tempered glass safety issue . however, the tempered glass is much more stronger than normal glass rite?how about clarity issue? Any problem using tempered glass?
*
normal glass vs tempered glass clarity wise i think not much difference. i think tempered glass more resistance to scratch.

but however i still advise against using tempered glass. perhaps you should do some internet studies or research about tempered glass as aquarium tank before going further smile.gif

I have google on the use of the tempered glass. I agree 100% on the shatter issue of tempered glass. Actually i receiced a quotation for 5X2X2 feet around rm1200 for tempered clear glass that i think very cheap.

However, non of my google finding mention about the disadvatages of using tempered glasa besides than shattering issue. I scared something goes wrong if i use  the tempered glass such as silicone bonding does not goes well, or glass bulging etc
*
i see... i got not much info about the silicone and glass bulging. but i think silicone would do just fine.

would love to see your 5x2x2 once it is up weh drool.gif

*
i think ok la for that price. long time not active in getting this price news. few years ago 5x2x2 is around rm1100 normal glass. not sure about now. janji u sendiri rasa puas then ok laugh.gif

but i warn u, the cost for set up will be more than the price of the tank laugh.gif
