If ur magic seed melt, u can try dwarf hairgrass (wabikusa), just put it on your soil, it will spread. Within 1-2 month will covered. Don't overfeed your fish, n also watch out for algae growth

(^__^)

the wabikusa will spread by itself?
if i bought it in a square shape just plant it in middle let it spread?

Yah, just plant it on soil, and let it spread, my 1 foot tank fully covered within 1 month, but i use two, it spread fast. Not wabikusa spread, the hairgrass spread from the wabikusa

Update on magic carpet~ most of those leaves on the surface getting elongated now and carpet height is about 1/2~1".
[attachmentid=9876410]
Those in lower light areas or shorter plants leaves are still round, so those getting better lights grows much faster.

Anyway moved one of the Anubias, and thinking of adding a java fern or some big long leafed plant at the left and right back corner as background plant, cuz those area looks empty..
[attachmentid=9876411]

Edit: Anyway the color is abit off in the picture.. the carpet doesn't looks as green as the 1st picture, but more of light green with a slight yellow tinge, but not as yellow as the 2nd picture..

ahh... i had my doubt on the magic plant hence i didnt go for it. it look really nice during it's prime and its low tech plant. but with the name magic plant and with it coming from china.. erm... maybe i'll see how others did
and i thank you for your update.

Tank currently having a snail infestation after removing about 50% of my carpet.. saw the 1st snail about 3 weeks back, which must have came in with some plants. Noticed quite alot before the carpet removal but now it's everywhere~~

Anyway I have no problem with snails, and was previously even planning to put some in for it to breed as cleaners and later the snacks for the dwarf puffer I'm planning to get for my new tank. So seems to be working out great.

But then now u can see the snails surfing on the surface of the water.. as if trolling me...

snails... man, i have a bad history with snails. got an infested tank too. but got nothing to control them since there's only guppy and yamato inside. had to manually crush them flat with fingers and the yamato get to feast on the dead snails.

To be honest the magic plant is not too bad. One of the reason I'm changing is also cuz I'm thinking of rescaping the aquarium. Abit bored d..

Anyway, fyi the magic seed I planted in a cup in my office. Same age as the one in my aquarium.
[attachmentid=9939769][attachmentid=9939770]
Pen for scale. Somehow without fertile substrate (planted on some tissue) and when not overly crowded they stay short and small.

Anyway I might try these magic seeds again next time, maybe not to carpet my whole aquarium, but part of it wink.gif
*
mmm... interesting

do let me know how long they can last. i have heard that these magic seeds will last around 6 months before uprooting and rot.
