you dun need to remove them for braces.... but it's a good idea to remove them as they are time 'bombs'......

treatment duration for Damon is the same... proven by may research... in fact, you dun need research to proof it if you know how it works... it's basically the same thing as any other fix braces appliance... it's just the way it secures the wyre that's different.... most systems uses coloured bands to keep it in place... Damon doesn't use that, it has a build in 'gate' 'clip' to hold it...

Added on July 5, 2011, 11:54 amthe more force the wyre apply on the teeth, the faster the teeth move... the shorter the treatment duration.....

same goes for pain... more force more pain....

Hi Doctor,
It has been nice to have you here....
What do you mean by "Damon doesn't use that, it has a build in 'gate' 'clip' to hold it..."?
You mean damon system come in a set of bracket and archwire come in a set?

I am considering ceramic or damon braces. Can i hear the pro and con from you? and of cause the differences in cost.
I have 4 wisdom tooths with me now and one was not align properly as was told by dentist.
Very likely i will need that to be removed before the braces. sad.gif

Thank you.

Aji.

damon has a build in locking device that locks the arch wire in place..... so the orthodontist don't have to use those coloured bands to keep to tie down the wire.... makes life easier for the orthodontist....

Ceramic is not that obvious compare to damon.... normal metal bracket is 'fashionable' as some ppl like the colour bands!!

try university dentistry if want cheaper, but waiting list sooooooo looonnngggg.
i was told if your root is not strong or have some problem, the you need to correct it first before using braces, otherwise it might make the teeth even weaker... The dentist should check and tell you what to do.

no.... your dentist asked you to avoid hard food coz the damaged to your tooth is probably pretty severe... hence the root treatment.... if it's too severe for normal restoration then you will have to go for crowning....

'weak' root is referring to your supporting tissue's health.... it's basically whether you have gum problem or not..... if you have severe gum problem(shaky teeth) then you are not a good candidate for braces..... if it's mild then your dentist will have to clean up your teeth and you have to keep them really clean for a period of time.... once the dentist is satisfy that you can maintain your dental health, then only you can go for braces.....

if your gum problem is not controlled, braces will make things worse..... your teeth will be pretty loose.... may even have them extracted if it's too loose....

guess I'm not a good candidate for braces then... cos the other dentist ever ask me to choose softer toothbrush cos my gum is starting to "shrink"... sad.gif

no... your probably used hard/medium toothbrush and brushed too hard.... this will hurt your teeth(root area) and coz recession of your gum..... not necessary means you have gum problem...

I've always been using soft toothbrush... perhaps I didn't brush in the correct way...

Anybody considered or have done bridging or crowning to fix crooked teeth instead of the traditional braces?

Damon system does not require the patient to extract pre-molar in some case, does it? and my wisdom teeth grow already, do I need to extract them if I want to brace my teeth?
