It is working very good, never repair/service since I bought it in 2009.

Some people said older stuff seem to have better quality.

Yeah, I have no confident to proceed the purchase after saw so many complains on the SRxxx8 reliability. Stick back to integrated amplifier for long lasting reliability, haha.

I guess most of the recent models are not built to last. Sourced and bought for my brother and cousin, one Denon and the other Marantz both broken down less than 2 years, one had HDMI issue and the other motherboard issue.

I do like the Marantz sound, but i take pride on nothing beats Technics base...hahaha lol..sorry dont want to digress on a Marantz thread

I have good experiences on Marantz reliability so far.. However, t times, I am thinking of to let go my SR to Stereo amp because most of the time are watching TV series or youtube, which only stereo sound. And AV Amp consume lots of power and generate heats as compare to simple stereo amp. Imagine playing it for long hours... Not to mention only stereo amp can play acceptable stereo music for now.

What model is your SR? Coz I thought Marantz SR series with HDAM should have good music reproduction, still cannot compare to stereo amp kah?

Currently using SR5010 due to cabinet design with limited depth...

Btw, not easy to have stereo music acceptable system in general. I guess stereo music mean lowest distortion possible and only do-able with purely high quality design and components. Read that few AV brands has dedicated model with music capability but no chance to hear and confirm them. While with stereo amp, affordable Marantz PM600x or 8 series already confirmed acceptable with most bookshelf speakers. And the thing I love most with Marantz stereo amp is that they hardly get warm... sign of very low electricity consumptions. And if not used for half an hour, it auto go to standby mode some more... which I did not see this feature on AV amps.

Hi Sifus, I'm planning to buy Marantz PM7000N. I'm new to this HIFI club however, I have always been into speakers and amps since small. So my question is, what speakers get along with this model? I'm not looking into big bulky speakers. Just small and compact but powerful like bookshelf speakers. Do I need additional sub woofer to get that bass punch or will the speakers be sufficient?

define your meaning of "powerful". high SPL? full range frequency at close distance?
your definition of "small and compact" is too subjective. I consider my JBL 3677 as small. tongue.gif

this 7000n cannot support bi-amp.

common bookshelf set need speaker stand to perform full potential.
meanwhile floorstand set are almost equal size when u factor in above situation.

what audio setup you having now, is essential to know their good+weak point.
so u able choose the next path of upgrade.
nobody able to choose for u since any speaker can get along with this amp very well. cuma not necessary get along with ur ears.

Sorry for being too subjective laugh.gif . Powerful in sense of high clarity in voice and decent amount of bass. I'm considering ELAC B6.2. But I'm not sure if its compatible with PM7000N or not.

Distance from speaker should be around 9' to 10'.

So what type of speakers suitable for this PM7000N? For now, I'm just using simple soundbar JBL SB350.

Good say. With its power, sure enough to drive most bookshelf without issue.

As ktek pointed out, personal taste matter most.

Btw, if without speaker stand, you can try for speaker spikes that stick below it. It does make the sound cleaner... However, it still depends on personal taste. Sometime cleaner sound less bass as compare to putting it directly on tables/cabinet. Of course it also depends on your music taste.

I have a pair of RX2, which I use speaker spikes. I like its cleaner sound. But do remember to adjust the spikes and make it balance among the four.
