analog out = built in dac do the work. dvd and bd focus on 48khz & 96khz + multi channel performance. stand alone cd player focus on 44.1khz stereo only.
i can notice quantitization process (weak & strong) certain bd player like ps3 can force 44.1khz & 88.2khz process in menu.
from your experience does the higher sampling rate of bd player and quantitization process you mentioned worsen cd sound quality and is it audible?
i listen at friends house cd6003 player. the result is "singing alive" vs "feel like recorded song"
it doesnt give more details or reduce them, just miss natural timing. where we says natural not equal to accurate. bd player & high res audio are super accurate device.
With optical out to dac than will be following the CD source which will be 44.1k to be exact. Personally I will prefer Coaxial
Ok. For pioneer bdp180 no coaxial out. But when I optical out to yamaha r-n803 ess dac, I feel the sound a bit thin. Prefer analogue out, sounds fuller. The bd player just using mediatek av processing chip.
Every component in the chain of setup do have effect on the output. So is hard to say is because of analog out or digital out. Is pretty much mix and match to what you want. Different player will give you different sound as well.
Any experience with optical cables? I’m using those plastic type RM20+ for 1.5m bought in Aeon. A few articles online say cheap plastic or expensive glass cable no difference, but I’m not sure.
ok thanks guys. i read some of other people's experience with both glass and plastic and the difference seems too small, or not even there. glad i didn't spend more on this.
Optical cables are like HDMI cables, they don't make your sound any better or worse. Just use the cheapest or reasonably priced better looking cables based on your taste. I've seen some crazily priced thick optical cables which look very impressive but these are snake oil at its best. Inside is still the thin optical cable that transmits light. HDMI cables are also the same, only difference is the bandwidth and Ethernet capability, no difference to video & audio quality.
Hi Sifus, I'm planning to buy Marantz PM7000N. I'm new to this HIFI club however, I have always been into speakers and amps since small. So my question is, what speakers get along with this model? I'm not looking into big bulky speakers. Just small and compact but powerful like bookshelf speakers. Do I need additional sub woofer to get that bass punch or will the speakers be sufficient?
Any idea where to buy speakers and amps in msia? I can only see Style Laser Audio selling.
there's cmy too. but you have to call ahead and find out which branch to audition the particular model of speakers.
in sungei wang plaza, cmy has a huge sales gallery and also a small second hand hifi shop on a lower floor. you can check out Dali models that suit your budget too.
there's perfect hifi also, that sells speakers like kef and sonus faber.
i think since your amp choice is fixed, you should ask them to match it as close as possible. otherwise they may use amp that is many levels higher than yours.
i've bought items from both shops. both staff helpful and friendly. their speaker brands are different so who you buy from depends on the brand you decide on.
if you want elac b6.2 then style laser.
good thing for you is both sell the marantz receiver that you want. only room size may not match when you audition speakers.
if you buy both items from same shop, you can probably nego for a bit more discount or freebies.
and im kind of leaning towards buying it. I have had Marantz products before which is why im preferring this brand. Should I go with the PM8006, or is there a better option for around the same price?
the article doesn't seem balanced, more like hard sell. it mentions weak bluetooth but how is bluetooth used in this amp?
this guy is supposedly a fair reviewer, but he is also long winded
Dedicated CD player is definitely better than using BD player. Playing hi-res the key thing is the dac. Is not about the USB port. I had been playing hi-res for long time and I am very sure it can be same quality as CD
Yeah that’s why still browsing for dedicated player. But I need to make sure it doesn’t sound worse than my bd player digital out to receiver with ess 9006 dac. Otherwise waste money.
I don’t have any CD player for past 5 years. Only playing with high-res. I already gotten the same quality of high-res with CD. Don’t need CD player anymore
Yeah that’s why still browsing for dedicated player. But I need to make sure it doesn’t sound worse than my bd player digital out to receiver with ess 9006 dac. Otherwise waste money.
update to my own post, i decided i couldn't go for a marantz player in this current economic situation although the CD5005 is very tempting and affordable to others
