I don't have special outfits for cycling but I usually wear dryfit Ts and Columbia's hiking pants when I ride. Even if it rains , it will dry off in less than 30 minutes with continuous riding.  Also I have those hiking sandals which dries off fast too. But nowadays, I can't wear these sandals when mountain biking because on offroad, bits of mud and sands gets into the shoes. But I guess riding on tarmac should be OK. Those watershoes by Adidas or Nike also are OK since they dries off fast.

The one above is quite expensive but you can get similar kinds from Direct Sports under their Karrimor brand. Just as good and comfy in fact. I have one size 43 (very new). Anyone interested, can let you have for 50 bucks.  laugh.gif

Hi,
The track is about 10.5km. Normally I will
park my car at the free car park near to Millennium Monument.
The route as shown in the map is pretty flat,
You also able to find a small hill along the track,
which is not bad for a short uphill training.
Most of the road surface is pretty good except some
sections might be too bumpy for racing tires.

Hi All sifu, can i change crankset to triple chainrings and install front derailleur for my tern link B7? means convert to 3x7 21speed? do anyone do this before? If yes, do any shop recommend for this modification (KL area)?

hi guys,

i thought of buying a folding bike.

which one is better between tern and dahon?

in terms of pricing i think dahon is significantly cheaper, but how about the quality?

i'm eyeing entry - mid range price wise folding bike, budget below RM3k. :-)

it's for leisure ride during the weekend.

i saw tern node d8/d16 in one utama last week, i don't remember the exact pricing, i think d16 slightly cheaper than d8?

Off course it is possible. Many have done before. GW Cycle can do it but it is an expensive affair there. If you can't find any LBS to do it, PM me. I can do it if you want to. Finding a road bike triple is a bit hard though. Be prepared to spare a few hundred bucks to do it. PM me if you are interested. icon_rolleyes.gif

Get the most popular one. Dahon Vigor or Dahon Speed and then convert to 18 speed. Within your budget. Go Kimbell Jaya. There's a unit there and Kimbell Jaya can do the modifications as well. All parts available as well there. icon_rolleyes.gif

After all the thought about folding bike performance.
Should buy some entry level one or mid range model.
No point having a 18 speed or 20 speed folding bike, it will still much slower than 16 speed road bike smile.gif
it just too much money spent on marketing their product, and make you feel good buying extremely expensive stuff.
Try to get performance in folding bike is a bit stupid to me.

How to beat road bike / mountain bike using folding bike with same gear? Izit I have to double up my cadence, smoother gear shift or corner faster than them? Bigger wheel is an advantage for them

Haha, all type of bike has their purpose, so folding bike suppose to be small and fun to ride. I think everyone now is trying to compare bikes too much. smile.gif

Dahon and tern are bapak and anak company sctually. Thats why some of their body paterns are a bit similar with each other. If dahon, try to get the below 2011 models. As for my opinion, the latest dahon is not that 'good' (spects n components) thats why they can reduce their prices.

As for tern, based on your budget go for mid-range model. It is 'good' enuf for taman ride or any fun ride. I used to ride Dahon Speed for two years (until it was stolen) and currently riding a Tern. Not so much differenxe actually. Its all depend on your preferences. Happy hunting

Its all depend on your 'engine' bro. Train your leg harder. I saw many foldies can actually beat RB/MTB during a 20-40km fun rides. Some of them even have this 'child seat' attached to their folding bicycle can selamba smoke our fellow RBs. A 8-years-old kid can climb genting perez just using his java decaf without pushing. (And u know how gruesome genting perez is for newbies). No pain no gain, my friend smile.gif

The biggest dis-advantage about the foldie in comparing speed is the weight. YES !the weight. An average roadbike is 8 to 10 kilos where else a foldie is about 13 kilos and even a Brompton is 14+ kilos. To make a foldie sub 10 kilos will make you spend about 5K if you start off with an aluminum or carbon frame.

Actually there is a group that chases roadbikes with velos (451s wheelsets) but they are really fit riders. My suggestion hmm.gif if you want to catch up with roadies, don't ride with them if they won't wait for you. As simple as that. Let their ego fly with them like a kite. Many buy foldies because of pricing and portability. There was once a rider that. He started off with a foldie but he was not fit to catch, so he bought a road bike to join folding bikes ride. That is to give him advantage. Then he started turning back to sweep ala 'leader' kinda thingee. So, next ride, I purposely went to roads which are off roadish, you know gravel , a little mud . He had to carry the bike a few times. He should join a roadie group but I don't think he can catch up with them. laugh.gif

Just set your priorities. If you want speed and it your thing, buy a road bike and train with it. You cannot have everything, that's why there are riders with all three types, road bike, mountain bike and folding bike.
