QUOTE(LEVIATHAN @ Nov 6 2006, 05:26 PM)
after lotsa read with no post..

hi all. im a noob with 8 RESes. keeping them for about 3+ months since july this year. want a real comfirmation here about RES keeping setup. hoh. why RESes in fish shop, almost everywhere i saw 'em, kept in a very cetek water? not 1 gallon per inch as guided all over google-indexed sites? ha? then the tokey said,
still, i not kompom which one to folow. but anyho, currently they stay in 2' akuarium. water-filled to 2/3 of the height. want to upgrade to massive 120 gallon akuarium. but onli after i have my NDSL this new year. warf!

*
Best practice is of course what you read from the internet. that will guarantee you a very very happy turtle and less prone to diesase. tokey kedai recommendation confirm cannot ikut. nonsense la aquatic turtle cannot live with water rclxub.gif
but if no budget one,for the time being you can put them in the biggest container/aquarium you can find (sementara belum besar lagi)

but 8 RES at one shot for a noob is really not recommended. you will have 8x the challenges of a "normal" noob. good luck

this my setup for my 2 RES

Wow....8 RES?? You got lotsa passion buddy! Anyway, from what i understand, RES needs a lot of water and as long as you provide them a basking area, a drift wood with an end out of water, they will be fine. For babies like yours, should be easy to setup. Not speaking of experience, just from i've read so far smile.gif Gambar? Gambar? smile.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

sayasebuk, why don you get another boxie to teman your boxie now smile.gif thumbup.gif

no, they bask usually in the morning as that basking port got superbly yummy direct sunlight from morning till noon. yaa that port is rili hot. even i cant stand the heat.

the lamps just to provide a little light & heat at night. and to help them see themselves~

haha read that turtles like to play in the water so i put la guli la golf ball la, tapi they never usik one
i did read about the money plant thingy, but i dont think the plant is money plant. anyway, the plants are not there anymore..menyemak aje
my boxie is more than 4 inches. for pictures you can click on the link in my signnature below. but no new pictures. latest taken was 3 mths back i think
small gravels are no no because might be sharp n pointy plus scared they swallow and get indigestion. instead i put some pebbles to reduce the amount of soil

welcome LEVIATHAN,

RES, ahhh, thats what i know only, other turtles i can't help but RES i might abl to help out a bit...

I'll go briefly,

Habitat, Oh how big the aquarium should i get for my RES...
For the first year of RES, its rapid growth is a real concern. Normally would grow till 4 in of SCL in first year, thus a bigger tank is recommended.Small habitat may stun the growth of RES and causes pyramid condition...

Smallest tank recommended would be 3 ft x 2 ft with 2/3 of the tank filled with water. Having a bigger tank also gives your RES better space for exercise, more execise good for digestion and mainly, health...

Unlike fishes, turtle have long term memory as they recognize some place that they have been to. Fishes however, might lost the memory and think that they have gone to a new environment where actually they just swim around the tank for once...

RES habitat is better to have a place for them to bask, a drydock... next, we'll go for sunshine... cool.gif

Sun... Light... Oh My Vitamin...
Sunlight / UV bulb ---> Generate UV ray ---> UV ray penetrate skin and shell ---> Provide Vitamin D
Vitamin D ----> act as catalyst for calcium absorbtion
Calcium ---> for Bone and shell growth + building + keep in good condition

The flow above shold be able to understand easily.

Natural sunlight is always better than UV bulb's as its intensity of 1 hour UV ray can easily surpass 10 hours of UV Bulb's...

Food... I'm hungry!! gimme more... plsss...
Food,

Less of:
- protein (not totally 0)
- goitrogens

More of:
- calcium
- balance calcium : potassium ratio
- vitamin A (not too many, may cause lethargic)
- vitamin D

Most animals are sensitive to timing, RES too...
Its best to feed RES in the daytime, as thier organ digest the food in the daytime where they have their exercise... its not good to feed them before bed time...

Special medication by Uzairi for treating minor cuts and fungus infection:
1. drydock your TTT for an hour
2. Use dettol on infected places
3. apply Minyak Gamat (Sea Cucumber oil) on the cuts or fungus...

They are just too small, indeed a good price but scared later they cannot adapt to new environment. Anybody with musk turtles do give your opinions here. notworthy.gif

today first time go to xian leng shah alam. waa very hepi, feel like a kid at a candy store. so so big like aquaria. got lots of arowana, even big big size.
however, they're strictly into fishes only, no other.
However, i did see some pignose turtles in a huge aquarium shared with other fishes (cannot remember the name).
Also saw a huge alligator snapping turtle (carapace more than 30 cm) sharing a huge aquarium with some zebra cichlids and peacock bass chichlid. he really blended in with the rocks. couldnt see the face though since the side of the aquarium was blocked.
