QUOTE(HyeoshinX @ Jan 28 2008, 09:31 PM) WoW You can only type down the EAP homework stuff but all the other exam essays must be handwritten in the examination booklet. and are we suppose to write it down or can we type it down? The recommended length of 1500 words is usually too short for a good literature essay and most students will go up to 2500-3000. The length of the literature exam is usually 3 hours. Trinity really helps you for uni even though the course may be quite intense and tough at times. It is after the all the best (and most expensive) foundation course in australia.... you don't want to pay 20k AUD for nothing, do you? Don't worry too much, I can guarantee that you'll be able to write that much by the time you reach term 4. By the way, what are you planning to do in university and what subjects are you doing in trinity? |

The foundation course at trinity takes four terms to complete? That's two years, right? I thought all Australian foundation courses only took a year.

QUOTE(HyeoshinX @ Jan 28 2008, 09:58 PM) Well..even though I suck in accounting, im taking up accounting in uni. hmm...let me see.... I guess you will benefit from taking both Maths 1 and maths 2 if you like maths. That will make 3 electives but I will suggest that you throw in another elective such as economics. You could always drop one subject if you think you can't handle it, but I think you'd do quite well with accounting, maths 1, maths 2 and economics. in trinity, it will be English, History of Ideas, Accounting, Mathematics (either 1 or 2), and 1 more subject...which i havent made up my mind yet. any suggestions?? Edit: what does academic writing means?? I was aiming for something along the health science stream so I took maths 1, maths 2, chem and physics. When I received my results, I realised that taking 4 electives really paid off since all 4 of them contributed to my best 4 score. Academic writing is the way universities want their essays to be written. It is mainly researching, building up an argument and writing an essay. You will be expected to use proper English register, grammar..etc and NOT plagiarize. Once again, don't worry...as Trinity will teach you academic writing in EAP and HOI. QUOTE(ET_10 @ Jan 28 2008, 09:58 PM) The foundation course at trinity takes four terms to complete? That's two years, right? I thought all Australian foundation courses only took a year. No... There are 2 semesters (about 4.5 months each semester) each year and 2 terms in each semester. Thus, it makes 4 semester. You can think of a term as mid-semester. QUOTE(kamagotchi @ Jan 27 2008, 11:37 PM) Urm, the place I was staying at was expensive and I think its now 320 per week.. unilodge $320 per week is too much, even for a place like UniLodge. You can share (2 person, own room) a very good apartment in Kingsford/Kensington around $250/week, including bills. As a student, you don't need facilities (use UniGym) and the high end security systems are just an overkill. It has good security, automated locked doors, for EACH doors! the main, the doors in between blocks, the elevator, the apartment room, and own room (we use a card key like the hotels) and great facilities. But so u know, I was forced to stay there (either there or homestay) because I was under 18 at that time.. I think rents in Sydney are pretty expensive and it keeps getting higher every yr unless ur staying with a bunch of people in a hse. Its my first time trying to find a hse/apartment this year and my budget is AUD200 per week, bills excluded. Fair nuff I suppose seeing how hard it is to find a place near uni and I prefer having my own room sharing with another 2 max. Rents are generally increasing due to the ever increasing interest rates, hence cost of mortgage. It's a buyers market, so rental properties are being stretched pretty tight. You will be learning in a university-type environment. For each subject, you'll have 1 lecture and 1 tutorial a week. A tutorial is a smaller group(about 14 students) which enforces what you learn in lectures. Thus, there would be no need for private tuition classes. It is quite easy to score and it could help you.The prerequisite for dentistry is(assuming you take chem, maths 1, bio and accounting): Subject 1: English Subject 2: Chemistry Subject 3: Maths 1, Maths 2 or physics Subject 4: One other-Biology, Accounting, HOI Thus, using this combination, you could easily use accounting as your best 4 just in case your bio mark is not very good. QUOTE(HyeoshinX @ Jan 29 2008, 12:32 AM) we are allowed 5 subjects..2 core + 3 electives.. Yup, you are allowed 5 subjects, but some students take up to 6 subjects and get 7 marks in their result slips(including EAP). Since you are not taking any science subject, you will have quite a lot of free periods. So, I guess you will be better off doing another elective. You could always drop one subject after term 1 or 2 if you think you can't cope. im not going to celebrate CNY... and i'm feeling really sad leaving many friends any family behind (even though i'm staying with my relatives) + scared about studying the subjects i'm taking... Okay, the cheapest room is AUD284 in unilodge.. plus with the charge AUD10 - an exception for the first time, per key card lost (I think I lost mine, or locked myself out about 5 times)Rents are generally increasing due to the ever increasing interest rates, hence cost of mortgage. It's a buyers market, so rental properties are being stretched pretty tight. I didn't have any choice because I was under-18, Im staying elsewhere this year but. I think it would be hard to find a place in Kingsford/Kensington right now since its like peak time for students looking for accommodations. Im thinking of... Waterloo if Im really desperate. |

You will have 2 free periods every week if you are taking that combination. You have chem and maths 1 optional extra classes on Saturdays. I recommend that you go for the chemistry class. You also have optional bio and accounting classes, but I'm not sure when since I did not take those subjects. |
